Lucas Piazon & Marko Marin going out on loan?

Featured Replies

It would be unfair to judge marin and piazon situations with the same eye.

My understanding of the Marin transfer is that in April when we signed him, we were unsure of whether we would get Hazard. So getting a winger/AM made sense at that point. Luckily for us, the champions league result tipped the bidding scales in our favor and we were able to get Hazard. Add to that, the late acquisition of Oscar meant we were crowded in the AM department and hence Marin has found playing time hard to come by. Everyone would agree that ability and skill wise, Marin is a notch below the others and hence the pecking order.

Wouldn't disagree with that but now would be the ideal time for his to get some game-time, with no Moses, Hazard being inconsistent, Oscar young and not lasting 90 minutes and FA cup matches coming up.

Sending a player like Marin out on loan is more or less telling him we think he's a bit surplus to requirements.

Honestly Marin looks like he has very good ball control and is as good, if not better, as the rest of them as going past players.

He also looks more of a proper winger than the three amigos, which is something we've needed when the middle becomes so congested from all 3 of our AM's coming infield.

And now that we have a big strong striker, it only makes more sense to play a proper winger that will whip crosses into the box.

IMO Marin is the best dribbler of the lot and arguably as good at 1v1's. Needless to say, I like him a lot.

That said, I disagree that he looks like much more of a proper winger. In fact, I think that's part of the problem that's prevented him from getting minutes here. He's too similar to the other options at the position. Moses is much better than Marin at providing genuine width, so he's the player that gets called on in situations that call for that approach. He's also proficient on both flanks, whereas Marin is markedly better on the left.

New reports about Piazon was that Pellegrini's personal call swayed the board to send the boy out on loan. the board correctly reasoning that if Pellegrini would personal call to ask for a player on loan, chances are that he sees something in the lad that if developed would be or immense benefit to both clubs.  also it might be a first move to getting isco in the summer while piazon becomes his replacement for the time being. also it might allow Malaga to sell Isco to us and have a replacement in paizon on loan which would be very good business for the cash strapped club.

Piazon going on loan makes sense, and assuming he gets game time Malaga is a quality loan for everyone concerned. Especially if we can sort out a deal where we get first choice on Isco.

Loaning Marin would be completely retarded. He's a good player that adds depth to our squad and has the potential to be a very good player. He hasn't been given the opportunities to show what he can do so far, so getting rid of him is just totally out of order.

I think thats a bit harsh on the guy. Its not like he was given chance after chance like a certain Mr Torres. Marin played a couple of games and each time tried to do his best but with the lack of game time and over coming injuries he struggled with the pace of the league. Pre season he was our best player, better than Hazard and Oscar.

pre season friendlies are meaningless. Not having a go at you specifically uno, but ive seen people singing marin' praises in pre season, but the same people will argue torres' goals all came against sh*t teams!

Yes thats a fair comment. But pre season was the only time he got a number of games in a row. I think its unfair for people to slag him off as they do when he didnt get a fair crack of the whip with us.

It's a shame he doesn't sell more shirts, or he would have gotten an actual chance at competing for a spot in the team.

dont think that comes into it, he obviously wasn't performing in training, and was poor the games he did feature in. Probably should have played s little more especially ahead of beneyoun, but I dont think he was ever going establish him here once we won the champions league.

I think its unfair on him not getting more of a chance. When you see Torres being crap for 99% of the season but still starting pretty much every game it makes it even worse. Marin didnt set the world on fire but i dont think he was to blame. Its tough trying to get match fit when you arent given time to actually play. Frank and JT have struggled a bit when returning from injury recently but because of who they are and what they have done for us in the past they were given more time to regain fitness.

do you consider that unfair?

Not really but i do think its unfair that Marin didnt get much of a chance when there were worse player(s)getting a lot more game time last season than he did.

well, Rafas appointment wasnt fair on anybody. and yeah, he probably shouldve played instead of benayoun

but right now, hes miles behind players he is fighting for minutes against. even if he did play more last season, he still would be surplus with kdb and schurrle coming (back) to the club

I'll let his loan spell at Sevilla be the judge of him, not the 144 minutes he played here (during he did get a goal and an assist which is a very good goals/minute contribution).

Yes, we should.

If he isn't injured and plays fairly regularly but fails to make a splash, we should sell him. If he isn't injured and doesn't get in to the first team at Sevilla (who aren't at our level), then we should sell him. If he gets injured and misses most of the season, we should sell / release him. For me, the only acceptable outcome is that he stays injury-free and plays often and well.

Thankfully, the £7m we paid for him is relative peanuts and I reckon we'd recoup that if we sold him.

I think this is a good time for us to judge Marin, assuming he gets regular playing time at Seville.  A decent team in a good league, and not just momentary substitute appearances under He Who Shall Not Be Named who chose to stick with his mate, Benayoun.

I watched Marin in person when Chelsea played the Sounders last summer, and i thought he had potential but needed to change his game up a little.  He stayed VERY wide all game, and basically would round the full back, drag the CB toward the line, then cut inside and shoot.  Almost as if he was trying too hard....somewhat similar to a Scott Sinclair, tried to do too much in such short appearances that he basically looked selfish and squashed his chances for future selection.

Piazon I saw in that same game too, and he looked far more rounded and accomplished.  I hope we see him back this season
