Lukaku to Everton

Featured Replies

Just because someone is a fan of a club doesn't mean that "fighting for a spot" is the best option.

Sturridge didn't get a single start the season he left ahead of Torres, that was the same time Lukaku was out on loan for the first time. Lukaku had already spend one full season with the squad without much chances.

For a 21 year old playing regularly is the most important thing - expecting players to stay around just because of loyalty or being fans is silly.

If Jose didn't feel Lukaku was ready to be first choice ahead of Eto'o; Ba and Torres last season, personally I think he was wrong.

Right now we have Costa so the situation has changed but we also have no reliable backups at the moment and that might end up biting us in the arse.

You're all bitter or gloating, we should see how things fall come the end of the season before deciding how successful our treatment of Lukaku has been.

Expecting maturity out of a 21 year old when most football players in their 30s have their head stuck so far up their arse it's unreal.

Yes Mourinho could very much be wrong in this decision and we may end up getting burned, but let's see.

But Mourinho is the manager and if he is comfortable with the situation then I think we should be. I just like to see managers have control of a situation and a clear idea of what they are trying to do. Mourinho felt Lukaku wasn't prepared to rotate and fight to be a starter. Maybe you or I might have told Lukaku he was first choice, maybe we would have talked him round. But we're not there.

We're obviously going for the title next year and Mourinho will probably looking to win 3 of the next 5. Having a whining 21 year old is probably something he does not want to deal with. He would much rather have a Kezman figure as his back up striker.

That's what some people don't seem to understand; you need a balance in the squad of back ups who are prepared to be just that and come on and do a job when called upon.

That's why I will always appreciate players like Kezman, Jarosik, Crespo, SWP, Deco. Zhirkov and Kalou for their roles in successful title side. Over half of those players have been big fish at another club, but they sacrificed themselves for the good of the team.

Lukaku is young and doesn't want to do that. Completely understandable. That's what makes this sale a good one in my opinion.

Lame! But a good one to start on Twitter if you're bored! ;)

Ooh, good thinking. Here I go.

Did you not read Mourinho's quotes? It's exactly what we thought all along. He wants to be first choice but he does not want to work for it. Simple as that.

What did you want the club to do? Hold a gun to his head 24/7 for him to stay here? He showed no indication of wanting to sign a new contract either. You, and others, need to stop blaming the club for a situation like this. Lukaku put us in this situation but luckily, the club did brilliantly and got a good price for him in the end.

I don't care what Mourinho has said. I don't believe most of what he says, there's two sides to this and I'm not going to blindly believe what Jose says especially considering the sh*te we've had up front the last two years whilst Romelu has been impressing and improving and generally doing what a striker should whilst on loan.

As for what did I want the club to do? If you actually read the post you've quoted you'll see I've typed down what i would have wanted the club to do. To repeat "The club should have told him he has this year competing along side Costa as that's what happens at most top clubs and if he still wasn't happy at the end of the season then sell."

This is a Chelsea forum for Chelsea fans to discuss matters relating to Chelsea so don't have a little pop at me or others at the end of your post for daring to post about how we disagree with what the club is doing.

Even if we had of kepy him, we are risking letting him go for free when his contract is up.

Don't get me wrong I said it last summer when he was loaned - he would be sold this year after we sign a World Class striker.

What pissed me off was the fact that he WASN'T FIRST CHOICE at the start of last season. I completely understand the decision this season.

You are all looking at things from CFC/Jose position - from Romelu's position he returned from a very successful loan, found a new manager and also found out he was behind semi-retired Eto'o and Torres in the side.

If I was in his shoes and a manager told me Torres has done more to start ahead of me I'd be on my way to the train station.

Lukaku spend a full year watching Torres play from the sidelines if there is a player who has a right to feel agrieved being behind Torres in the pecking order Lukaku is one of those players(other notable players who could have done a better job up top include Sturridge, Bamford, Kalou, Ivanovic, Turnbull, Hilario etc).

28mill? Decent fee at the end of the day, a profit and a good profit at that.

No one really knows what went on behind close doors but he is gone, which is a shame but now we need to move forward.

Could we do with another striker? Sure but we have 3 already so until we move Torres on then this is likely the 3 we go with for the coming season.

He would not have complained if Lukaku had any bottle and stayed last season to prove himself instead of forcing a loan move.

If he actually ever had any plans to use him then he could have easily just told Lukaku no, kept him and given him chances to prove himself.

Just because Lukaku wanted a loan doesn't mean we're obliged to get him one. Jose could have made him stay and he would have inevitably got the chances he craved. As with Mata though in the end I feel Mourinho was happy to let him go without giving him a chance. Then turn round to the media and say it was a lack of patience on the players part or that he wanted him to stay.

I'm glad he's gone, annoying whiny and entitled attitude the whole time and he hasn't ever looked like the 28 mil we sold him for which is a great price. How quickly some forget that solanke and brown and bamford are in the wings plus we can buy someone better if we are really that keen now or in the future.

Yeah I understand Lukaku's position and I don't begrudge him at all. We'll never know where in the pecking order he was meant to be last year. My guess is number two. We tried to loan out Ba before Lukaku. Torres was first choice for political reasons. I think Jose agreed to give him a chance- look who was starting early in the year- but also said he would not pursuit a whole season if he was failing. Eto'o was a safety net incase Torres never came back and Lukaku wasn't cutting it.

Anyway that is in the past and can be analysed in many different ways

But yes if I were made Chelsea manager at the start of last year, I would have told the board that I'm doing a mini AVB but using the players we have and using older players like Terry and Ivanovic who I see as being useful for the next 2-5 years.

I think Mourinho started last season really believing we could win the title but around the Stoke loss, he thought it wasn't possible and started building the team in a way he wanted.

If we had conceded the title last July, De Bryune and Lukaku may still be Chelsea players.

Personally, I am happy with the squad this year as it is probably the strongest in the league and is good to go for 5 years at least.

Lukaku hasn't been given a fair crack, but some of that is from his own choice.

In the end it's a decent deal as he is far from irreplaceable.

Come on folks, we've got a potential fee of £28m!!!

Has anyone here ever thought he was worth that?

We've had a result.

Only a result if we reinvest back into the squad preferably in the form of Cavani and/or Pogba.

Ditto, League was there to win and we had best chance and we blew it up. Our garbage strikers could not open up stubborn bottom table defenses. Had he been around that could have helped.  Somebody needed to tell him that Torres is useless anyway and Drogba is almost finished so he would get his chances. It takes one good game to become regular starter.

Never understood Chelsea board management and their decisions. If you rivals can manage to keep 3-4 good strikers in a team with harmony then why we keep loaning players out who could help us getting better results or win trophies?

I mentioned this last summer but didn't want to believe it.

Still I don't feel as bad about Lukaku as I did with the Sturridge fiasco because simply I don't rate him as highly.

I still think he should have been our #1 striker last season and if he was around we might have won the League.

At least we now have Costa and not Eto'o/Ba/Torres

Expect us to use the money and buy an English/Homegrown striker now

I don't have hard feeling for Lukaku, I think it's best for him to play regularly even if its with a team like Everton which is obviously a step down.

Best of luck Romelu

Cavani would be the worst purchase at this point in time. In the last 4 months all that he has done of note is miss open goal in pretty huge matches.

We need some one rather low key here who can play and score from the deep. Some one like Pedro of Barcelona or the likes.

f**k low key, imagine the opposition sh*tting themselves knowing they're up against Costa, Cavani and Drogba each week.

Its a statement signing, it shows Mourinho had a plan all along.

I'm not saying it'll happen but if it did it'd be a huge moral booster to the team and fans going into the season with a whole new strike force.

To be fair, Lukaku single-handedly beat the USA.

To be even more fairer, he came on very late in the match when the US back line was completely spent and Howard didn't have anymore tricks in standing on his head in goal.

We missed the boat there, I personally think Alexi Sanchez would have been the best option out there.  had we taken that opportunity Costa and him would have terrorized any defense in the world.

All this told me was that Lukaku is all fur coat and no knickers. He talked the big un, but he never had the self confidence to back it up. You would think if he had that much belief in himself, he would be willing to challenge the other strikers for the first team spot.
