July 8, 201313 yr I must admit to being a bit naive about this boy, is he really that good? He is only 20 years old and is already a full Dutch international. He was voted the Dutch Football Talent of 2012/13.
July 8, 201313 yr He is only 20 years old and is already a full Dutch international. He was voted the Dutch Football Talent of 2012/13. To be fair Raheem Sterling is only 18 and already has a full international cap, and he's rubbish.
July 8, 201313 yr To be fair Raheem Sterling is only 18 and already has a full international cap, and he's rubbish. To be fair Van Ginkel is not rubbish!
July 8, 201313 yr The other day my phone autocorrected Marko van Ginkel to Mario von Tinkle Clearly, I am hoping to put that name on the back of my next kit.

July 8, 201313 yr I would be genuinely shocked if he was. Agreed. But until I've seen him play a few games in Chelsea shirt I reserve judgement. It's a pretty big step up for him coming from the Dutch league at such a young age. Early indications are there is an intention to play him in the starting XI so the scouts/Jose must see something in him that they like but having never seen him play I want to wait to see him in our team before passing judgement.
July 8, 201313 yr Let's wait and see....! He has already proved it when voted the Dutch Football Talent of 2012/13.
July 8, 201313 yr He has already proved it when voted the Dutch Football Talent of 2012/13. And Mikel has won Chelsea Young Player of the Year in 2007 & 2008 but he isn't exactly the most popular of chaps with Chelsea fans. What I'm saying is, he has it all to do now he is here with us. I won't over hype the lad until he has shown me what he can do in a Chelsea shirt.
July 8, 201313 yr It's not without reason Van Ginkel won the Dutch Player of the Year award. I expect Mourinho to give him an opportunity to play the role of a deep lying playmaker as he is a box to box midfielder who can attack and defend. However, he would need a partner who is more defensive minded. Allegedly Mourinho is considering bringing De Rossi to the Bridge. A double pivot partnership of De Rossi and Van Ginkel is a distinct possibility. Only time will tell!
July 8, 201313 yr From what I have seen of him his playing style is reminiscent of a Stevie M or Michael Essien, wins the ball and driving a team forward. My guess is we are going back to 4-3-3 with a defensive midfielder, enough of this double pivort bull. Mikel will sit (like it or not) and it will be VG with lamps or KDB or ramires or oscar even. basicaly, squad worrys are over

It is unlikely Jose will switch to a 4-3-3 formation. The 4-2-3-1 has been his favourite at Real Madrid. He won the Champions League with Inter using the 4-2-3-1 formation. If he signs De Rossi he more than likely will use him in the double pivot.

Maybe 200%. Might be even more. He signed a new contract few days before Jose was unveiled. I'd prefer De Rossi signing over any signing we are reported to be after.

If Lamps stays on I don't believe Jose will guarantee him first team football on a regular basis.
July 8, 201313 yr Why would Frank leave? He just signed a new contract. Did I miss something?!? Lampard will be part of the squad and he will be used sparingly just like Rafa used him. He knows he isn't a guaranteed started. End of story IMO.
July 8, 201313 yr I'm all in favour of keeping Lamps at the Bridge. He is now a legend and has a good relationship with Mourinho. He is not the player he once was but is still capable of contributing to the team..
July 8, 201313 yr You really like the "French line" style of writing don't you. Never mind, keeps things nice and neat.
July 9, 201313 yr In my opinion, Van Ginkel is everything we need in the deeper section of midfield, one of our most vulnerable areas last season. We're looking strong now, very strong. With Essien returning, Van Ginkel, Mikel, Lampard and Romeu will be fighting for a spot in CDM. This also gives other players a chance to fulfill their potential in higher or deeper positions, such as Ramires. Playing him at CDM last season wasn't a bad call in my opinion because of his speed but I feel we were really missing a box to box attacking touch we had from him when he played on the right in the 11/12 season. Not to mention the few games where he did play on the right and was superb in the 12/13 season. But of course people will have different opinions on that. Another player who can fulfill his potential in their best position is David Luiz, yeah, playing him in the holding midfield role worked a treat last season. But people seemed to forget how much of a brilliant centre back he was, we need his talents in defence if we're to really have a solid back line. Not to mention on top of that, if we go ahead and sign De Rossi as rumors are saying we're set to, that would completely calm my nerves about the holding midfield role, as De Rossi seems to be a solid holding midfielder and would fit in so nicely with the team.
July 9, 201313 yr What? Ramires was terrible on the right side. Zero crossing ability, doesnt have any ability on the ball to beat defenders. Hes worse there then he is a defensive holder and I think we all saw last season thats not his position either..
