Van Ginkel to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Its strange isnt it, pretty much everyone agrees that we ran out of players last season, we were desperate to allow our attacking starrs a rest yet couldnt because the back up was`nt deemed capable. Now we are filling thesquad with more quality some people still arent happy.

Nobody's complaining about increasing the squad depth, it's can only be good for the team. But filling the squad with players who would be first choice for their country or any other club, who are very nearly the same age, is ultimately unsustainable in the long run.

Looks like Lampard's contract won't be renewed after next season and Mikel / Ramires would be sold to accommodate KDB, Van Ginkel, Schurrle and Chalobah.

Were building up quite a squad. We'd have to be the youngest 'good' team in Europe right now. Hazard, Oscar, KDB, Lukaku, Schurele, Van Ginkel, Dave Azpi. That's some amazing young talent.

agree add Courtious to that list and consider players like Mata,Luiz and Rambo are only in their mid 20's the future's bright.

Come on lads, don't you know Roman will get tired and leave us.  Enough of this "future" talk, weirdos

Of course I jest, but it is fantastic to see that we have such a good, young squad.

I've read some statements from Jose saying that he will not win the premiership next season, as he will need two seasons to get this squad right.  Now, part of me thinks he is just deflecting some bullsh*t from the press and the other part of me hopes that this truly is his intention.  To turn the corner at Chelsea and get us back to challenging for the premiership again.

I suppose it will all make more sense at the start of the season when we see who we have signed.  However, if we continue to sign these younger players, then I think there may well be truth in Jose's statements.  If however, we sign De Rossi and Cavani I think taht shows we are going for it next year and will bleed some of these young uns in throughout the course of the season.

Also, I think this pretty much signifies that Josh and Gael are not going to be Chelsea players.  It will be interesting to see what happens with Piazon

Based on what exactly? I think it's far too early to make that call.

early? well predicting it once it happens wouldnt make it much of a prediction

the more i watch oscar, the more i feel hes not on the level of hazard, mata and de bruyne, and i dont think he ever will be. i realize its an unpopular opinion here, but its just the way i see it. i expect hazard to establish himself as an elite players while i think oscar wont improve much at all. i feel de bruyne may kick up a fuss if hes not starting most of the matches, but ultimately, i think he will be a better and more succesful player than oscar, whichever club he ends up playing for

Not all players need to be world class in a squad.

You mean the fans voted him top player, when in reality Rambo was the best player.

You must not watch the games for Spain.

Fans voted him best player. Players voted him best player. PFA voted him a candidate for best player.

Ramires better than Mata last season? Seriously are you that delusional?

Edit: Nevermind, just saw that you were arguing about 2011-2012...

Edited by Sharpy

Mata is better than ramires and has been for both season's he's been with us.

the players player of the year usually goes to a player considered 'unsung'.

also Oscar is better than de bruyne. his football brain elevates him above 99% of other players their age. Kdb included.

Very pleased with this signing.  Now I'd just like us to get a more defensive-minded midfielder (unless Jose has faith in Romeu) and then sign / loan back Luke Shaw.

Dont see the point in going for Shaw yet, just leave him where he is.LB is not a huge priority at the moment and im intrigued to see how PVA does in pre season as i love an attacking full back and i rate him higher than Bertrand not to say i don't rate Bertrand though.

I'd rather have too many good players than too few, it's the difference between cups and European glory.

Not all players need to be world class in a squad.

never said they do

It's your opinion and your welcome to it, but I honestly have not idea where you get all of that from. You (and everyone else) have not idea whether oscar will improve, or if kdb would kick off if not picked.

i have no idea? well i actually have an idea. now, you may argue that im delusional or full of sh*t, but thats not the point. by your logic we should refrain from making any predictions because none of us have any idea what will happen in the future

I never said you didnt have an idea. But Come on then, what is your reasoning behind your thinking about oscar not improving.

i generally think hes a bit overrated by chelsea fans. and i think his main problems have nothing to do with him finding his feet in a new league and in europe for that matter.

i think he will improve, but not by much.

my opinion on him may be influenced by the fact hes played out of position too many times. but even when playing as a nr 10 for brazil, i think he tends to go missing for long periods of time, and to make too many errors. as far as pure technique goes, i think mata, hazard and kdb are miles ahead of him

never said they do

Okay, but if you're saying Oscar wouldn't necessarily improve and reach those heights, he can still prove to be a useful player. I think he did well for a first season out of Brazil and ended up playing the most matches of any player for us last year. He wasn't consistent but personally I would judge him in a year or two.

I know nothing about this lad apart from his brilliant name. Very close to Marco van Basten. As you all know "Basten" is dutch for "brilliant volley goals" and Ginkel is dutch for "goalscoring midfield motor". I know Val can confirm this :247:

Is he quality enough for the first team though?

Your grasp of the Dutch language is astounding! Your translation is spot on!

I'm pleased with this signing, but also apprehensive. He's very young, and the Dutch league is very different to the Premier League. Still, being young also means eager to learn, and he seems levelheaded.

He never said he wasn't a useful player or that he isn't a good player just thinks that compared to Hazard,Mata and KDB he isnt as good or improve like them.I personally think its more to do with where he plays than his talent, stick Oscar central, game over.

I personally think that as far as young talented players go, Oscar is as good as it gets.

As someone already mentioned, his footballing brain and intelligence in what to do with the ball is extraordinary, his work rate is very good and he has the potential to be one of the best players around.

He's a very special talent, and as I said before, I can't believe there are some that don't see it that way.

We must be thinking of different Oscars.

Oscar is a very raw talent atm, the potential is there but he's not amazing yet, it doesn't help that we keep playing him on the wing.

Back on topic, seems like it could be a good signing for us, I've not seen him play much but CM is definitely a position where we are lacking. Now get rid of Mikel and get De Rossi in life is amazing.

He's not raw, what an odd thing to say. Moses is raw. Oscar is so smart and well rounded a player. He's better than de bruyne for a few reasons but above all its his intelligence that elevates him above 99% of other players.

And while we're at it, Mata is hands down our best player when in his preferred position. Stick him out wide as an orthodox winger and at worst he's our second best player.

everyone surely knows players player of the year usually goes to someone considered 'unsung'.

I mean, what on earth are you people saying and why aren't these opions being voiced in their natural habitat- below YouTube videos?

is it half term or something?

When Frank is running around Stamford Bridge at the end of this season after his last ever home game with the EPL trophy, i'm not gonna be complaining about having too many midfielders.

Because he obviously has the potential to be one of the best players in the prem in a few years, but he loses the ball a lot, misplaces passes, wastes chances, can get knocked off the ball easily at times etc and these are what are stopping him from being a great player currently. I don't doubt that he can be a great player but right now I'm seeing his as a great potential rather than a great player.

I'm more of the defensive minded LB myself, i don't see the point of being a left back if you can't actually defend

Hope young Rip van winkle is good enough to make the first team on more than a few occasions. He an Nathan Ake both seem to have big futures. Great to have the young talent.

Clearly Mourinho is making all the choices about who comes in, and I don't think his track record at buying players is that crash hot anyway. His strength has been getting results from the talent available for at least a couple of seasons. Having said that though he may well be up for the challenge turning a younger team into a dominant team. About the only guy I can recall to have really done that was Fergie when he took the Beckham/Scholdes/Giggs and other juniors right through.

Very hard to understand what the first 11 midfield will look like say half way through the season.

Schurle/Hazard Torres/Lukaku/Ba Mata/Ramires

Hazard/Lampard KDB/Van Ginkel/Mikel/Ake Ramires/Oscar

Cole Luiz Cahill/Ivan Azpilcueta/Ivan

is about as close as I can guess. I've listed them in my preference 4:3:3 subject to never having seen Van Ginkle, not even the youtube version.
