July 4, 201313 yr Do people still actually believe that managers/coaches at Chelsea still have anything at all to do with who we sign? Castles reported about month ago that the Van Ginkel transfer was given the go ahead by Mourinho. And his agent also said the player met with Mourinho.
July 4, 201313 yr Why wouldn't Ramires make the squad playing for Chelsea? He's played a whole lot since moving here. Not sure if moving to another club makes a difference. Massive competition for that role in team Brazil.
July 4, 201313 yr Hope we don't loan him out next season as we've needed some more pace in the middle of the park for a while. I also wonder if we'll go in for Bony given the great connection the pair obviously had at Vitesse. Great to see the club moving in the right direction this summer. July 4, 201313 yr It makes me laugh when people talk about our aging squad. Terry,Lampard and Cole are always mentioned but we have one of the best young squads in world football. Cech already has a replacement and Cole aside so do the others. If JM stays he could build a great team that could stay together for 4-5 yrs growing and getting better and better, which makes me wonder how does FFP work. Potentially our squad wont need much work in the coming years all going well and all players reaching potential. Obviously no top side stands still and will always add 1 or 2 even if its just to freshen up the squad and keep them on their toes. But regarding FFP, lets say next summer we have £70m to spend basis our turnover etc etc. We only spend £20m on a say for example a world class left back(just an example no disrespect to Bertrand a good cover player but the jury is still out IMO as to whether he will be Cole's long term replacement) does that mean we can have a 'rollover' on the other £50m and have say using the same numbers £120m the next summer???? To be fair people weren't saying we had an old squad last year, or the year before. It was back in the days of Carlo when it was said the most, and even then we won the double. It was initially said by Ferguson, who in reality probably didn't even think or believe that deep down - it was a lame attempt of unsettling / pressurising our players. The media then lapped it up for a while and repeated Ferguson's comments. Then we proved them wrong. Again and again. Regarding your question at the end, I am not too sure... I think its based on yearly accounts and so it probably wouldn't roll over...but I could be wrong. Edited July 4, 201313 yr by Zola
July 4, 201313 yr Or the Ramires thing is true and Van Ginkel De Bruyne and Lampard are competing for the cm role, highly doubt it but expect to see the papers going for: Ramires place in the team in jeopardy and is pushing for a move. As the Van Ginkel deal leaves him doubting his place in the team he desperately wants first team action. Chelsea are considering involving him in a swap deal with Cavani as Rafa Benitez is a known admirer. Ramires is desperate to force his way back into Scolari's reckoning for the world cup and so on. Not sure why, with Ginkel and Ramires it gives us the option to play a more competent double pivot.

Massive competition for that role in team Brazil. well, i think its safe to assume one of mikel, rami and essien is leaving. and considering how similar ramires and van ginkel are . . . i dont think rami leaving is a stretch
July 4, 201313 yr Not sure why, with Ginkel and Ramires it gives us the option to play a more competent double pivot. can those 2 really play together? i doubt it
July 4, 201313 yr can those 2 really play together? i doubt it I don't see any reasons why not, on paper that is. They play the same role, know what to do and will know how to cover each other due to their familiarity of the role. It would certainly be a massive upgrade from last season anyway. July 4, 201313 yr It's just an obvious thing the press would do to me. Benitez has said he would only consider Ramires as a swap deal for Cavani. 2 new players effectively come in this summer who are going to be competing for Ramires' place in the team and he has just been dropped from the Brazil squad after being first choice. It would be lazy but it is the press.

It would certainly be a massive upgrade from last season anyway. they can play together but I feel you would have to play a Mikel kind of defensive midfielder behind in a 4-3-3 it is an option but not first choice as it would mean dropping Oscar Hazard Mata or Shurrle
July 4, 201313 yr If he stays and we don't send him on loan, do you think it could mean Mikel is on his way out? Or does it maybe mean we'll look to move Romeu on (there was a rumour of him going to Seville on loan). Or perhaps there is some truth in Ramires being used in part exchange in the deal to bring Cavani to us?
July 4, 201313 yr I wouldn't be supprised if it goes like this; Mikel to Galatasaray and Romeu out on loan to a spanish team. We buy De Rossi. CM: De Rossi, Van Ginkel, Ramires, Lampard, "Essien" (also RB cover)

I just spoke to someone regarding this and he said(dont know how true) FFP is calculated over a 3yr period so a rollover would effectively be possible. Hav'nt seen much of Ginkel so dont know if he's ready for our first team or will be loaned but dont be surprised to see more and more big clubs follow our lead and start harvesting Europe's top young talent at tournaments like EU20'S and 21's even if its just to loan them out until there ready or if they dont reach there potential sell them for a profit.....welcome to FFP.
July 4, 201313 yr Ramires will certainly not be sold, because just a few weeks ago Mourinho hailed Ramires' ability publicly and said that he had already wanted to sign him when he was at Real and Inter.

July 4, 201313 yr Great signing. I never intended to watch Van Ginkel last season but seing as Vitesse already have PVA, Kalas and Kakuta on loan i used to stumble upon loan reports and videos etc and Marco Van Ginkel (MVG now apprently) was Hollands best midfielder last season. He has pretty much everything he needs to become a regular starter for Chelsea. I would have loved Paulinho at Chelsea, but Marco is younger and his reputation in Holland is evident.. @pierrevh17: The best box to box player that we've got in Holland moves from Vitesse to #Chelsea. Good Transfer. #VanGinkel I wouldn't be surprised if he was loaned out but as AlwaysRight said he was concerned about playing time and i genuinely hope he gets it. I read dkw and Zola you think he'll be a squad/bench player? I hope he'll surprise us along with Schurrle in pre-season.
July 4, 201313 yr If he's good enough, he'll play. Jose is inheriting a very young squad so there aren't many established names at the club yet so places in the starting XI are very much up for grabs and impressing during pre-season will be key for some players.
July 4, 201313 yr Welcome to Chelsea mate, so far both signings have continued our trend of signing highly rated young players with bags of potential and reasonable experience despite their age.

Exactly how it should be. Nice to have a young extremely talented hungry squad, aligned with a few experienced Chelsea boys topped of with one of the best managers in the world. Exciting times to be a Chelsea fan. With the exception of the EL Final, the dark days of the last 6 months have faded for me. If you'd have told me back in December/January i'd be looking forward to next season this much I probably would have said 1 thing....'why's that is Jose coming home'. Fcuking blinding.

Sounds like a real talent, let's hope he can slot into the first team squad for next season because our current midfield requires reinforcement.
July 4, 201313 yr Were building up quite a squad. We'd have to be the youngest 'good' team in Europe right now. Hazard, Oscar, KDB, Lukaku, Schurele, Van Ginkel, Dave Azpi. That's some amazing young talent.
July 4, 201313 yr Cant argue with that. Although the likes of KDB and Van Ginkel are yet to prove there can hack it in the premier league. Fingers crossed!

July 4, 201313 yr So, how are we going to play all these guys enough games next season (granting we are still making 2 more big signings).
