Van Ginkel to Chelsea

Featured Replies

If that comment sounded snide then I apologise, it wasn't directed at you. I just find it remarkable how many people are complaining about us signing too many players when having a large squad can only be a positive. Depth was our major undoing last year IMO.

It all depends who we sell and buy. In the midfield if we were to sell Mikel and bought De Rossi the first choice would probably be Ramires and De Rossi and the second choice Van Ginkel/Lamps and Essien/Romeu. If we do also sell Ramires then De Bruyne could drop back into the midfield 2. Until we know who's coming and going we won't know what the likely shape of the team will be. I don't see Ramires being sold I just think it's a possibility worth considering.

Its strange isnt it, pretty much everyone agrees that we ran out of players last season, we were desperate to allow our attacking starrs a rest yet couldnt because the back up was`nt deemed capable. Now we are filling thesquad with more quality some people still arent happy.

Lol.  O, I'm not complaining about that.  I'm just don't understand how we can play all the guys on our team.

Last season, we were minus KDB, Lukaku, Andre and a good chunk of Terry.   Also, with Van Ginkle and potentially 2 more signings, will we have enough games to make everyone happy?

The attacking midfield looks very good now, first choice of Hazard Oscar Mata with Shurrle Moses possibly Piazon and De Bruyne as well is alot better than an unfit Marin a crap Beneyoun and a good Moses. If we sign a striker we'll have Lukaku rotation and Ba as backup if Torres is sold which is better than Torres and Sturridge. The squad is looking like it could be the best in the league maybe abit behind City but not much in it but its the best young squad by a mile. Also with Mourinho rotation will be good, cannot wait for the season to start.

oscar probably wont be first choice anymore. hell be pushed out by de bruyne or schurrle i think. schurrle might offer more from the wing and de bruyne is just a better player

Your right.  Andre will probably will take the LW position, but Oscar will eventually take Mata place either this coming season or the next.

Also, KDB is better, so is that why Oscar didn't get loaned out while KDB did?  I remember last summer everyone was saying Oscar will need time to adapt and he will be only a "squad player."  Good assessment guys.

The way I see it Mourinho will put Oscar in the number 10 role with Mata and Hazard either side interchanging then if we are struggling in a game put Shurrle on but rotate all 3 with Shurrle and Moses with KDB probably playing in the 'pivot'. I will probably be wrong but it is how I see the best team atm.

Before getting the handbags out lets just wait and see what happens.

I can see one or two of our midfield being sold this summer. Mikel and Ramie i think will go.

But truth be told we dont know who will stay and and who will go either for good or just out on loan. We do not know what formation Jose will use. We could go back to 4-3-3 or stick with 4-2-3-1. We just do not know yet.

I just have a feeling we will revert back to 4-3-3 this season.

Ivan/Dave - Cahill/Terry - Luiz - Cole/Bertrand

                 Mikel/Romeu/Essien

van Ginkel/Ramires/Oscar - Lampard/KDB

Moses/Schurrle                             Hazard/Mata

                     Torres/Lukaku/Ba

It is more than possible that could happen but i personally think that Jose will stick with the 4-2-3-1.

I use a 4-3-2-1 formation on FM and looking at the players we have i think that would work with the team we have. Mata and Hazard playing in behind the main striker.

Oscar wont push Mata out lol, lets be real here. And no, all these guys wont get equal playing time, only the best will play and thats the way it should be. Competition breeds success, some will probably be sold because they are unhappy, but thats life at the top sides.

Mikel might, but Rambo is staying.

I'm sure if anything he will be Mourinho's ultimate utility player playing in multiple positions, etc.

Oscar will push out Mata, especially with his work rate and tenacity.   It's just a matter of time.

Our interim had a preference to start Mata in the hole position (maybe Spanish connection), but even RDM gave Oscar the 10 role in the Champs league.

Mata kinda sucks in this formation.

You have Mata and hazard fighting for the same spot?

Played out wide initially under AVB and was still our best player

You mean the fans voted him top player, when in reality Rambo was the best player.

You must not watch the games for Spain.

No I was just showing the depth for the various positions Moses, Schurrle, Hazard and Mata would be contending for starting roles out wide in the same way Joe Cole, SWP, Robben and Duff used to.

So in your opinion Ramires was our best player but the guy the majority of fans voted for wasn't?

Okay gotcha.

Not sure what Spain has to do with this when I'm talking about his performances for Chelsea when playing wide left.

Your post makes no sense.

Yea, it does make sense.

Rambo won player's player of the year.  So, would I trust the players on Chelsea's opinion or fans opinion?

This season, he was unanimously the poty, without question, however last season, I would say Rambo or even Cech were the real poty for Chelsea.

Also, spain played 4-3-3 in the cup.

Seriously mate, what are you on about? Rambo won Player's player and Mata won fans player of the year award clearly they both played well that year. This is going completely off topic and I'm not even sure what point you are trying to make?

You're never going to have the perfect formation because someone will always say Player X is best suited to Formation Y so why play Formation Z.

With the squad of players we currently have I personally think we might switch back to 4-3-3 because for Chelsea fans the two holding players/double pivot whatever you want to call it was one of the most troublesome areas of the pitch for us, so much so we ended up moving a CB forward to play there.

Reverting back to a 4-3-3 would, in my opinion, relieve a lot of the problems 4-2-3-1 has given us. Overall I still do not think have played great football using this formation as the good performances under both RDM and Benetiz were met just as often with poor performances, especially in the league.

Mata played on the wing for Valencia and that's the reason we bought him in the first place. Luckily he can play in the hole too, it's good to have players like that, along with Hazard. Van Ginkel may only have Ramires for competition in the box to box role in the long term when Lampard leaves. A 4-3-3 will be best suited for the squad if we get a DM like De Rossi or Matic. Mourinho used a 4-2-3-1 at Madrid because Khedira and Alonso were not pure defensive midfielders.  At Inter Cambiasso played the deepest, even when Thiago Motta came in the next season.

In a 4-3-3 with Makelele as the DM, Tiago/Essien as the box to box and Lampard as the attacking mid, we were one of the best teams in Europe, probably in the top 3.
