Welcome André Schürrle *Official*

As I said in another thread I think this is a good signing but only if KDB isn't used in part exchange.

We are in the strong position of KDB having about 3 years left on his contract so we don't have to sell if we don't want.

If the club do want to send him on loan again I'm sure we won't be short on takers given that KDB has performed well this season.

Haven't really seen him play to be honest.

I reckon this will be the only attacking player we will see signed this season.

If Emenalo dosen't get us a midfield enforcer. Than I will give up on him.

Kalou part two? Do we really need him with Mata, Oscar, Hazard and Moses. We also have Marin and Piazon and Kakuta on the books.

Not sure if Marin will stay in the summer and whether Piazon is ready to contribute to the first team, he may be sent out on loan again. Schurrle will bring in depth to all four attacking midfield positions, as well as being able to play striker in a pinch.

Marin and Kakuta are almost definitely leaving the club as things stand. For me, Schurrle is a better player than Moses. Every time I've watched him play, either for Germany or Leverkusen, I was impressed. He can play up front on his own as well as on either wing. I don't see how that versatility could harm our squad in any way.

As for Moses, I quite like him and have been impressed with his performances prior to him leaving for the AFCON, though he is yet to fully establish himself in our team.

As I posted in the other thread, according to The Guardian KDB will not be a part of the deal.

Chelsea's summer strengthening is set to be sparked by the £20m arrival of André Schürrle from Bayer Leverkusen, with the club hopeful of announcing the signing of the Germany forward at the end of the season.

Talks are expected to resume with Leverkusen officials this week and the 22-year-old is apparently keen on the move, with a five-year deal agreed in principle. The transfer is likely to be a straight cash payment, though the idea of Chelsea's Belgium winger Kevin de Bruyne moving to Bayer on loan has been mooted. The forward has impressed on loan at Werder Bremen and remains in Chelsea's long-term plans but he would be open to remaining in the Bundesliga for a further year.

Schürrle, capped 22 times, can operate as a wide player or striker and has long been a transfer target for Chelsea, who had initially hoped to secure his services last summer before Leverkusen resisted their approaches. His should be the first of an anticipated flurry of arrivals concerning central midfield and a back-up goalkeeper. A more conventional striker is also on the club's wish-list and interest is retained in Radamel Falcao of Atlético Madrid. Chelsea are pursuing targets despite not having a manager in place for next season and the hierarchy are well aware of the need to qualify for the Champions League to fulfil their ambitions.

So you've got Malouda and Benayoun's contracts expiring in the summer shifting (for arguments sake) the best of £150k from the wage bill and we've made a move to replace them with a full German international already.

Good business if you ask me.

How can anyone establish themselves in our team with Mata Hazard and Oscar playing? They are just too good to drop.

Manchester United have RVP, Rooney, Hernandez and (to a lesser extent) Welbeck in their forward line and SAF manages to give them all game time and it keeps them fresh and competitive.

A midfield comprising of Mata, Hazard, Oscar, Moses and Schurrle looks healthy to me and you aren't hopefully relying on a small pool of players to deliver each week.

Schürrle looked a top prospect at Mainz the other year, getting capped at senior level when he was there. I don't think he's really hit the heights at Leverkusen, but I've only watched highlights, so perhaps that's unfair. He is a versatile forward - can play central or wide - but I don't see him as a lone striker in a 4-2-3-1. He'd be a great addition to the squad, but he's not in the same league as Falcao.

As we've already seen many times this season, our three amigos don't always perform as well as they should due to fatigue. We definitely lack squad depth and can't just rely on Mata, Hazard and Oscar all the time.

Agree with this, especially when the likes of Hazard and Oscar go out of form from time to time. Consistency is still an issue as they are obviously young, but that's when the likes of Schurrle and Moses can step in.

34 appearances, 11 goals and 6 assists this season.

Just shy of 80% pass completion as well.

So roughly one goal every 3 games playing on the left mainly.

I know you can't read too much into stats but it gives you a rough idea of his contribution this season as an attacking player I guess.

I dont know, it just seems a bit pointless to me.

Agree 100%.

Surely the important signings for next season are a quality striker and a top notch centre back. We don't need another player of "this type".

Forgot to mention Kakuta too, I'm not sure if anyone here watches Vitesse games who can tell us whether he has been any good or not.

Kakuta has no future at Chelsea. It's only a matter of time before he goes and I expect that'll be this summer.

We do however have plenty of other young players who can play in the middle somewhere and be rotated with the three amigo's- Piazon, KDB, McEahran and even Boga.

Those two plus a central midfielder. We have so many games to play season, having someone like Schurrle in the squad will only allow us to rest the likes of Mata and Hazard more.

If we get top four, I'm really looking forward to next season...

I said this at the start of this season but hell...The rebuilding progress will be one step closer I think

*next season

Seems pointless to me as well. £20m is a lot for back up. Especially as I'm not impressed by him. He's strong and has a good shot but that's about it imo. He's not better than Hazard, Oscar (in the middle), Mata, KDB or Moses. I don't even think he's as good as Ba.

Basically he's expensive back up that could hamper the development of someone more promising and might result in us not getting a truly world class striker this summer, which will annoy me.

Maybe I'm underrating him, but I'm thoroughly underwhelmed by his performances.

Manu buy Arsenal for 24 million pounds and Mr. Brilliance Emenalo buys the unproven, not required Schurr....whatever for 20 million. That's just f**king great business.

Next what ? 35 million pounds for Jordan Henderson ?
