Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Think gil was just trying to protect the athletico fans, it wasn't the best time to hint that costa is leaving.

Don't think it will be completed until after the world cup so he can pass a medical, but I still think that barring a failed medical, this is a done deal.

If Costa loves Athletico he may well stay, unless he fancies winning the Premier League especially. There's no other reason footballing wise for him to leave at the moment, they're a great team and who says they can't be successful again next season too?

I'm not too disappointed if we miss out on Costa, as long as we have adequate back up options... But we're just about to rob PSG for the huge Luiz fee, so Cavani isn't gonna be a good option financially if we want him.

If we're stuck with Lukaku, Torres and Ba next season I will cry.  :face_palm:

Money talks mate, just like it spoke for Eto'o, Falcao and many others. It'll be a step in the right direction for his career too

Idiotic from Atletico, who knows the damage this has done.

3rd Hamstring tear in 3 weeks....

Hope we have other options

It's not the 3rd hamstring tear in 3 weeks. They are not independent injuries and he has clearly been battling the same problem for a while now.

He came off this morning not because it was unbearable pain (I know this because he ran off) but because he wasn't 100% and he knew his teams chances of winning the game were better with a fitter player on the pitch. It was a gamble starting him and one that cost them late in the game as they had to make the early sub.

I really hope this transfer is announced before the world cup. Will be a great signing for us.

You don't know any of that lol

Pure guesswork

It didn’t strike me as a reoccurrence of a hamstring injury, but more a case of having nowhere near recovered from the original one.  It was a ridiculous gamble but you can see why Simeone tried it.

If we have signed him or are going to sign him it might actually play into our hands as he might now miss the world cup and will come to us better rested.

Personally I am not convinced he is a very top drawer striker however they are few and far between at the moment and he is probably the best, or one of the best, of the strikers who are realistically available.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone admitted he made a mistake in picking Diego Costa for the Champions League final.

Costa was substituted with a hamstring injury after only nine minutes of Atletico's 4-1 defeat by Real Madrid.

The Spain striker, injured against Barcelona a week earlier, had scored 36 goals this season for Atletico.

"No doubt the fact Diego played was my responsibility and I made a mistake," Simeone said.

The Brazil-born forward looked uncomfortable in the opening phase of the match, and was replaced by Adrian Lopez.

"I didn't want to lose time in this game playing with one player less. It just couldn't be," added the Atletico manager.

Costa, 25, was capped by Brazil in two friendlies, but he decided to switch allegiances through naturalisation, having lived in Spain since 2007, and made his debut for his adopted country in February.

Simeone was unsure whether or not Costa's participation for the World Cup holders in the tournament, which begins on 12 June, could be in doubt.

"I don't know if he'll have a problem [playing in the World Cup]. We'll have to talk to him and the doctors and see.

I haven't read the previous 65 pages on this thread so am not sure if anyone is of the same opinion, But I DO NOT WANT COSTA at Chelsea.

I am massively unimpressed by his form in recent weeks, he did nothing (penalty apart) against us and looks like a miserable SOB who is unlikely to improve team spirit or harmony in the dressing room.

Now his hamstring weakness is coming back to haunt him in almost every game, albeit, there is no way he has been resting it for long enough. A "hammy" takes a minimum of 3 weeks to heal, often longer so Costa's 8 and 16 days are a joke.

I feel there MUST be a better striker out there at £32 million. Have we trawled South America properly, African maybe or had a good look at Europe? The only THREE strikers we are linked with are Costa, Cavani and Falcao and I can think of good reasons not to buy any of these.

I still think we could get Rooney (or RVN, Hernandez) if we tried hard enough, no ECL will have pissed them off at Man Ure  and I would also prefer to keep Lukaku than pay £30-50 mill for a player that is over priced and injury prone.

Truthfully I don't think there is another striker out there at the moment with him goal scoring record and of a similar age that would be available for that money. Lets be fair, if it wasn't for his buy out clause his club would be asking for more than 32mill for him.

I also think it his Agent that is the gold digging c**t not Rooney. If My Agent kept telling me he could get me another £100k per week, all I had to do was go along with what he told me to do, I would probably do it. Rooney is still there despite having had other options. I just think that he had his heart set on being Skipper, but with Van Gal coming in, he is likely to go for RVP and Rooney will definitely miss the Champions League stage. If Jose had succeeded with his only real target and signed Rooney this time last year, Chelsea would definitely have won the League and quite likely the Champions League too

If we did buy him, and its not likely given he's just signed a new contract which would make him much more expensive then he was last summer would we want to match his 300k per week he's apparently on at United?

No, that would f**k up all our hard work on ffp as well.

I get your points about not wanting Costa because you're wary of his hamstring injury, but why on earth would you then want van Persie instead? It's like his bones are made out of biscuits. Hernandez is probably also a couple of levels below what we're looking for.

Think a lot of us would feel that way, because Jose would be an absolute fool if he let that happen.

imo Lukaku should be our 2nd option next season, he has shown he can score well in the PL for 2 seasons now. But Ba, and certainly Torres, should be off to pastures new next season, one way or another.

Spot on man!  Costa is never gonna be as flashy as Ronaldo, Messi, Ibra, Neymar or a handful of other top class strikers.  But he is far and beyond better than we have had since Drogba, and for his price and age.  We might as well try it out.  You people forget, we do have Lukaku if things don't work out right away.

People not wanting him because of what has happened over the last month and a temporary hamstring injury......It's just ridiculous I'm sorry .

This is the centre froward and Talisman for Atletico Madrid - The Spanish Champions .

I want him....Actually no...I want him A LOT

If he comes in you know it's because Hoseay thinks he fits us .

Of course it's risky but every option for us is going have quite a large element of risk .

We just need to remain faithful that the club have done their homework on whatever decision they go with (which look like Diego at this stage stage).
