JT was the best defender last season by some distance.

He's consistantly been brilliant over 10 years, Kompany has had 1 good season.

Cahill was absolutely immense for us last season, you obviously didn't watch him or you would be so bold to see him as an average defender.

 

There where a lot of pundits that came out and said that Kompany shouldn't have been in team of the year, because it is true he makes far to many mistakes. He's never been at the level of Nemanja Vidic or John Terry. Cahill wasn't so great against England but next to John Terry he plays even better than Terry himself, absolutely solid centre back and doesn't make anywhere near the amount of mistakes Kompany does and he certainly doesn't get turned or get beaten as easily either.

I think individually Kompany is probably better than Cahill, but that Cahill is very very good when played in our system and with Terry to lead the defensive line. Cahill did have the better season last time around though, Kompany nearly cost them the title at Anfield.

I could probably agree with that one to be honest.

 

But I would still rather have Cahill over Kompany, I think Sky have made Kompany seem like he's one of the best centre backs in the world. They have had a major fap fest since the season they first won the title, I've watched him a lot and he is nowhere near as good as some make out.

 

But as for Cahill I definitely agree, remember when we had JT missing for a month? we where really panicking at the back and Cahill wasn't playing so great at all, but when he has JT next to him he plays even better than JT. It's weird but they are a great partnership so we have that to be thankful for.

I would take Kompany ahead of Terry right now as we have to play a certain way to accommodate for Terry. Kompany would allow us more flexibility, but we might concede more.

If Kompany were playing between 2004-2010, I would laugh at the thought of him ousting Terry and Carvalho. Kompany is below those two, Vidic and Ferdinand and even Adams/Keown/Bould.

Yeah I still think Terry is more reliable and makes less mistakes, but look at my reasons.

Kompany would allow us to play in a way which Terry doesn't. Our defensive line has to be pushed back 5-10 yards further back than what we would ideally like to make sure Terry doesn't get caught out. This becomes an issue late in games where we can't break a team down. This wasn't an issue for Terry in his prime.

He is still a great player, I have been very complimentary of him, just over a league season I would rather take Kompany right now. In a one off game like a Cup final, I would rather take Terry as he is less likely to make a mistake.
