Yes they should. I was at a train station during the minutes silence today and two guys didn't notice the WHOLE station was silent and were chatting really loudly to each other. Ignorance...

No one has to wear it but to purposely shout absolute bile during a minutes mourning of the event is work of utter pond life, that club pander to these fans 'no blood stained poppies on my shirt' banners, IRA songs during today's silence.

but if it is the Irish connection that is behind Celtic FC's stance on this it's about time they moved on. Enda Kenny, the Taoiseach, laid a wreath at the war memorial in Enniskillen today on behalf of the Irish Government. Ireland has made significant steps to remember the many thousands of Irish men and women who served in British forces in both world wars. An institution such as Celtic FC should also be setting an example that promotes reconciliation, not one that serves to underscore division and lacks respect for the fallen.

I'm just saying no one should be forced to wear a poppy. I agree it's embarrassing and juvenile for Celtic's connection to Ireland meaning they couldn't hold a minutes silence. I'm fully against that

Not to spend the night talking about one of my least favourite clubs but a quick Google found these links.  I'm not aware of any connection between Celtic and the Easter Rising or the Irish war of independence or indeed the more recent conflict in Northern Ireland. In fairness, there are idiots in many camps relating to Irish history. If a pub in rural Ireland can safely honour a VC recipient then progress is being made.

I always say be careful what you wish for but the game has clearly passed him by, his old ways just don't work anymore. I think he'd be doing them a favour if he retired.

I find this thread of huge interest. The link with football, religion (didn't The Blues' first kit have a verse from the bible on it) and cultural identity is both interesting and problematic. It would be a strange situation indeed if only those from Chelsea supported Chelsea, only those from Tottenham etc. It is mystifying for our friends abroad who want to share the beautiful game, but who may not have either the game as we know it, or a team like Chelsea.

Celtic, Rangers, as I've said before have a read of Theresa Breslin's 'Divided City'. Recently I learned of how football is used as part of social engineering; a north London born person with Jewish roots choosing Chelsea over Spurs to deny the family background. What of those who support two teams, the local small town as well as the big guys. Some of us remember the 70s and at least some of us will be glad the patch rivalry is less hostile, but more about banter.

Today is to remember that death does not differentiate between race, religion or geographic area.
