November 9, 201411 yr Refused to have the poppy on their shirt either. No one is shocked though, they annually bring shame onto our country. People should have the right to not have the poppy on their shirt. It's their choice. We were fighting some Irish in 1916 after all, and after the war as well. I wear my poppy with pride but I will defend the right of someone to not have it forced upon them.
November 9, 201411 yr The way the money from Luis Suarez’s transfer was wasted is almost a line for line remake of Jack and the Giant Beanstalk, except instead of bringing back just magic beans, he also brings back Rickie Lambert
November 9, 201411 yr I hear the Celtic scum couldn't be quite for the minute silence. Anyone else here anything such ignorance. i'm sure many Celtic fans have relatives who served with honour in wars over the last century. some people's lack of education and respect is stunning at times.

If they are so anti england why do they want to play in the epl
November 9, 201411 yr I wish the season could end now with the table as it is Carlsberg don't do seasons but if they did lol
November 9, 201411 yr OK fair enough but they should keep their mouths shut during the minute silence. If they are so anti england why do they want to play in the epl Yes they should. I was at a train station during the minutes silence today and two guys didn't notice the WHOLE station was silent and were chatting really loudly to each other. Ignorance...

No one has to wear it but to purposely shout absolute bile during a minutes mourning of the event is work of utter pond life, that club pander to these fans 'no blood stained poppies on my shirt' banners, IRA songs during today's silence. Sorry f**k that and f**k them

I wear my poppy with pride but I will defend the right of someone to not have it forced upon them. but if it is the Irish connection that is behind Celtic FC's stance on this it's about time they moved on. Enda Kenny, the Taoiseach, laid a wreath at the war memorial in Enniskillen today on behalf of the Irish Government. Ireland has made significant steps to remember the many thousands of Irish men and women who served in British forces in both world wars. An institution such as Celtic FC should also be setting an example that promotes reconciliation, not one that serves to underscore division and lacks respect for the fallen.

November 9, 201411 yr I'm just saying no one should be forced to wear a poppy. I agree it's embarrassing and juvenile for Celtic's connection to Ireland meaning they couldn't hold a minutes silence. I'm fully against that
November 9, 201411 yr http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtic_F.C._and_World_War_I http://www.thecelticwiki.com/page/World+War+Two Not to spend the night talking about one of my least favourite clubs but a quick Google found these links. I'm not aware of any connection between Celtic and the Easter Rising or the Irish war of independence or indeed the more recent conflict in Northern Ireland. The club should be honouring its war heroes not pandering to a bunch of ignorant neanderthals
November 9, 201411 yr Watching this PSG vs L'OM match & L'OM are bringing it to PSG. Very entertaining match & I recommend it for your footie watching activities today.
November 9, 201411 yr http://www.bobsbardurrow.com/category/events/ A good story about an Irish Pub opening a snug dedicated to the memory of an Irish WW1 VC winner. In fairness, there are idiots in many camps relating to Irish history. If a pub in rural Ireland can safely honour a VC recipient then progress is being made.
November 9, 201411 yr Wenger - surely he needs to be thinking about going? This Arsenal team just isn't working and Wenger looked old and tired. Knowing when to go (like SAF) is an art.
November 9, 201411 yr This Arsenal team just isn't working and Wenger looked old and tired. ain't that the truth from my POV, le voyeur is doing a great job & 4th place is still in reach I want Wenger to stay!!! Edited November 9, 201411 yr by robdog

I always say be careful what you wish for but the game has clearly passed him by, his old ways just don't work anymore. I think he'd be doing them a favour if he retired. Of course I hope he stays
November 9, 201411 yr not sure if its true but i've just read on twitter that Rafa Benitez has been slashed to 6/1 for next Liverpoo manager

I find this thread of huge interest. The link with football, religion (didn't The Blues' first kit have a verse from the bible on it) and cultural identity is both interesting and problematic. It would be a strange situation indeed if only those from Chelsea supported Chelsea, only those from Tottenham etc. It is mystifying for our friends abroad who want to share the beautiful game, but who may not have either the game as we know it, or a team like Chelsea.Celtic, Rangers, as I've said before have a read of Theresa Breslin's 'Divided City'. Recently I learned of how football is used as part of social engineering; a north London born person with Jewish roots choosing Chelsea over Spurs to deny the family background. What of those who support two teams, the local small town as well as the big guys. Some of us remember the 70s and at least some of us will be glad the patch rivalry is less hostile, but more about banter. Today is to remember that death does not differentiate between race, religion or geographic area. If you want to appreciate Spudulike's salutary post then read Yeats an Friel's 'Translations'.
November 9, 201411 yr I wondered if the ref that is in charge of this PSG vs L'OM match trained in England? The worse red card decision that I have witness in a very long time. up there w/ my red card that I received this past season in my pub league.
November 9, 201411 yr Wenger says no one good enough to challenge chelsea...sounds like he's given up
