Suspect the list will change next week.

Yes! It's BY FAR his best. Anyone who says otherwise is deluded.

It's my personal favourite, but in terms of originality and breaking new ground in hip hop I can see why some of his later albums are considered in higher esteem. Late Registration is his contribution to the classic hip hop genre.

Illmatic is obviously still the hip hop standard though, I think GKMC by Kendrick is the only thing to have come close to it since.

Illmatic is obviously still the hip hop standard though, I think GKMC by Kendrick is the only thing to have come close to it since.

Personally, I think Kanye was at his highest level on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. But ever since Watch The Throne it's been more bragging of what he's got rather than pointing out the social ills which make the majority of his early albums such as College Dropout and Late Registration, I also think the production level on MBDTF is in another dimension compared to any other of his projects. It's a matter of perspective though I guess, to each his own.

And about Illmatic being the hip-hop standard, I don't totally agree with that, Illmatic is the standard in it's own kind, because apart from Good Kid Maad City, which released 18 years later, there aren't albums that create a better visual for you when listening, when you listen to Illmatic it feels like New York.

But I don't think there exists such a thing as hip-hop standard, that's marginalizing the genre as especially in 2014, there so many different kinds of hip-hop you can't say there is one greatest, Nas is arguably the greatest story-teller, but you can't compare Illmatic to let's say 36 chambers, which to some is times better than Illmatic, personally I think theyr'e both creme of the crop albums that shouldn't be compared but both credited as hip-hop classics.

Couldn't really split some of them so I've put in an 'or' once or twice.

1. Billy Bragg -Victim of Geography

6. The Jam - Setting sons

7. Manic street preachers - generation terrorists

8. The 1975 - The 1975

9. The Vaccines - what did you expect from

10. Killers - hot fuss

11. Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous, or Jailbreak or Johnny the fox.

12. Teardrop explodes - Kilimanjaro

13. The Strokes - is this it or first impessions of earth

14. Echo & the bunnymen - heaven up here or crocodiles

15. Stereophonics - word gets around

16. The skids - Days in Europa or scared to dance

17. The Ramones - It's alive

18. REM - automatic for the people

19. Proclaimers - sunshine on Leith

20. Andrew lloyd webber - phantom of the opera (and that's not in there for shock or comedy value either).

Okay to actually follow the rules this time... I found it hard to list 20 as quite a few of my favourite albums are greatest hits... so some of these aren't actually favourites but more making up the list. In no order:

Oh Dear - someone else who didn't read the rules.

Still need to post mine when I have more time and I'll make sure it doesn't consist of only Jam albums!

TrueBlueTAT, it's interesting that you are such a big fan of Zeppelin but didn't include Physical Graffiti (and did include In Through the Out Door)- are you not as big a fan of that album as of the others? My personal favourite is Houses of the Holy.

Ah that Limp Bizkit album Gem, was amazing!

Terrible group really, bit annoying but that album was somewhat brilliant!

Haha indeed, I liked Significant Other too but the Chocolate Starfish was the first album I listened to so much that I damaged it.

You know what... I completely forgot that Physical Graffiti has Kashmir, one of my favorite songs ever.  Also Custard Pie and Ten Years Gone.  Some good jams on this one.  Definitely one of my favorites too.

My fault.  I just read the title and went to it.  I'll re-do it a bit later.

Brave choice. But the wrong one, I'm afraid. Morning View sh*ts all over S.C.I.E.N.C.E

I really like that album too.  Just not as much as S.C.I.E.N.C.E because S.C.I.E.N.C.E is more raw and heavy.  In Morning View they were just starting to become pussy sounding but not all the way like their newest bullsh*t.  They didn't go full pussy so to speak.

Nothing wrong with a full pussy

15. The Undertones - The Undertones

13. Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks

12. Elvis Costello - This Years Model
