Thibaut Courtois

That sort of mentality!

That's interesting.

Can you explain that for me, Imran_CFC.

Please! Tell me more.

Mentality of offering leeway to players based on reputation

Isn't that the reason for having a strong squad-to rotate players & have healthy competition

Well. A healty club competition is not possible when there's no good club atmosphere. Chelsea"s biggest problem this season, my point of view.

Players based on reputation?

Who is your player of the season, Imran_CFC?

And has he inspire the others?

Don't understand your point on the link between healthy club competition and good club atmosphere, Competition for places is to do with the quality of your squad and having a manager who rotates them well and maintains everyone's performance levels. Club atmosphere I am guessing is how everyone gets along and the general chemistry amongst players-which is obviously good to have but not entirely essential in my opinion.

My point on players reputation was based around Shedenders point on giving more leeway to players who have performed well in the past

This season it has been very difficult to choose a player of the season as quite a few players have had spells where they have done well and then spells where their levels have dropped. Willian did well early on in the season but recently his levels have dropped slightly-But overall I would still go with Willian.

You don't rotate goalkeepers.

I clearly stated Squad rotation (Didn't specify goalkeepers)

My argument for Tibo is completely different-If he is having a tough time and making errors he should be dropped for Begovic (who was dropped for absolutely no reason other than Tibo was fit again)

Baba made a single mistake and has been dropped so why the double standards?

Different managers in charge at the time

While I have to admit that at the moment I like more De Gea than Courtois, I also admit that De Gea could have done much better in Liverpool's goal yesterday. Great cockup by the ManU RB, Varela (?), but De Gea could have defended that ball. On the other hand, he did a few great saves. For those saying we have a bad defence and is affecting Courtois, ManU has a defence as bad and De Gea is doing some great saves.

Having said that, I think Courtois has shown last season and at Atlético Madrid that he is a great keeper. So we should stick to him. But Begovic should get some games to step up competition and see whether Courtois gets back to his normal.

So, you will dropped Thibaut. And Eden of course. And then a third one. And a fourth. And all the rest, except Willian.

A good club atmosphere?

A good club atmosphere is more then only the players, Imran_CFC. Is a good dress room. A good staff. A good mental coach. A motivator. A nice (and perhaps beautiful) coffee lady. A good team builder. In case of Thibaut, a good keeper manager. A motivator. You need more then one inspirator. Chemistry for winning a title or even playing for a Europe ticket. You also need happy people.

If you have a good club athmosphere you don't have a 'Where did it all go wrong thread'. Or 'The club is in disarray thread'. Or an 'Eva Carneiro thread'. Or a 'Boaring, boaring Chelsea thread'. Or the 'It was all good a year ago thread'. And a lot Mr. Mourinho threads. You should read the 'Everton vs Chelsea FA thread' and the 'MOTM vs Everton thread'.

Correct, Stim. You don't rotate goalkeepers. In that case you have a deeper problem.

Good for De Gea, Motörhead.

Hope he will find another team soon.

Don't forget us, Motörhead. See the second reaction on this thread. That's why you guys bought him.

Do you guys have a mental coach, Michael440?

Nah, a good club atmosphere is generated by winning and a bad one when losing. Simple as really.

It is never as simple as this is the one thing which is wrong and therefore we are in the current situation, it is often a combination of things on & off the pitch. I personally believe it has been a snowball effect of our dealings in the summer window where Mourinho locked horns with the board and things kicked off from their. The game is so much about momentum that once the tide is against you it is very difficult to recapture your form.

In terms of the players, if a guy is struggling consistently rather than harming the players confidence further by playing them let them gain their confidence back in training.

My statement about squad rotation was for the squad in general and not specific for the keepers (As I have clarified a few times now)- I personally don't think he should have come straight back into the starting lineup to replace Begovic until Bego's performances dropped or give him the cup games and if he performed better than Begovic than get him in the starting 11 of the league.

He kept incredibly well last year when he had Cech on the bench and knew if his levels dropped he will be replaced but this year by him coming in for Bego for the cup games & League it just seems he has let his guard down slightly and the levels have dropped.

Don't get me wrong I love Courtois and wouldnt take any keeper over him even De Gea but the process of him being re-integrated into the team was incorrect according to me.

Don't get you wrong, Imran_CFC.

You have a good point of view. My repect for your reactions. I'm sure you are a die hard Chelsea fan! No doubt. And searching for answers and seeking for solutions.

So have we.

From another point of view?

What has Chelsea done with Thibaut and Eden?

Should have saved the second goal toady. Was a nothing shot from Carrol.

There are atleast 4 (maybe 6) keepers in this league that would have saved it. And its not just today, for Courtois not being able to save from tight angles has become a habit.

His positioning has always had question marks over it, but he compensated with his reflexes and dominance in the air, that stuff seems to have gone and he is looking a very average keeper at the moment

^^

His positioning and anticipation was best in the league when he came in. Reflexes not so much i think. Maybe its down to not trusting the defense in front of him.

But he has got to sort out those low shots from a tight angle. Lukaku's second goal last week and the second goal today both could have been saved.

Maybe we should turn the question around, what have they done to Chelsea?

They're every bit as culpable for our current shortcomings as everyone else in this squad.

Selling Cech because an average Courtois wants to be our automatic first choice is madness. I just don't get why José accepted that rubbish from Courtois. Now Guss and the next manager don't have a choice other than to continue playing Courtois while we continue to concede silly goals and then people will blame the defence for not being perfect throughout 90 minutes.

There is also his weak punch that led to Stoke's late equaliser, not coming off his line quick enough to stop Shane Long's goal for Southampton and coming well off his line when he didn't need to against PSG which led to Cavani just sliding the ball under his legs to score PSG's second goal in the first leg of the Champions League. That is at least 5 goals in the last 7 or 8 games that he has made big errors in. Then there is an issue with his kicking, positioning, punching, strength, decision making, he's all over the place right now. Not even Hilario was making as many mistakes as Courtois has been making of late.

Either Courtois has always been an average goalkeeper playing with a good defense, or he is just terribly out of form. For our sake i hope it's just form because next season we can't afford to have our goalkeeper being this poor.

You already nailed it. He was an average keeper protected by good defenders like Godin, Luis and co at Athletico Madrid.
