March 20, 201610 yr Which if you watched Atletico you'd know he was pulling off good saves regularly.
March 20, 201610 yr You already nailed it. He was an average keeper protected by good defenders like Godin, Luis and co at Athletico Madrid. You seem to have a personal issue with Courtois so it's hard to take you seriously, even more so when you say stuff like this. Perhaps your annoyance of him wanting to be first choice is clouding your judgement.

March 20, 201610 yr My god there is some crap written on here.An excellent keeper having a dip in form at the moment,it happens. He will be back to form when we sort out our defending.Sick of reading his sh*t Such ignorance!

Every keeper at youth level is taught that you should start 3 quarters of the way back from corners - the logic is that it's easier to run forwards then backwards Every keeper at youth level is taught to show the attacker the near post, try and force him there and he will more often then not take it, the general concuss being that if you can go across me and score fair play, it's a lot harder then slotting it in at the near post. Basically you shouldn't be conceding there to often and he does He was making the same mistakes at Madrid and I posted the same post back then. What he has got is great athleticism and hand eye co-ordination, some of the reflex saves he has made have been top top notch and last season he was towering above all when coming to collect deep crosses. The injury seem's to have affected him and in addition he seems to negate the basics.

Unfortunately that's the way of the modern day fan, zero patience or loyalty to players. Take matic for example, outstanding last season after 2 superb seasons at benfica. Has had a pretty terrible season but is surely worth keeping to give him the opportunity to get back to form next season. Yet many fans want him sold now, and many even wanted him sold in January. Probably the same fans who moans we sold lukaku, de bruyne etc too early.

I don't want to sell him but only because he was last season the best doesn't justify a place NOW ahead of Begovic. Edited March 20, 201610 yr by Nevamind
March 20, 201610 yr Courtois is a very good goalkeeper he has the potential to be one of the best but he had a very disappointing season. On his current form he does not justify the selection ahead of Begovic. He made too many mistakes, has a very bad placement and does not inspire confidence to the rest of the team. Another top keeper would have saved at least a goal against the Hammers. i think it would benefit him long term to be benched, he needs the pressure of competition to perform at his true level.
March 20, 201610 yr For those that are fans of Courtois, regardless of current form, what attributes do you think that he has that are deemed as being excellent? I am genuinely interested in knowing this. I appreciate that he is a big lad and can therefore catch high crosses, but so can Forster. Forgetting Europe for now, where would he rank in your Premiership goalkeeping rankings.
March 20, 201610 yr While Courtois has some obvious flaws in his game and seems cocky as feck in his attitude, I think he is still an elite level keeper. His reach is a big plus on set pieces, and his anticipation and positioning were top draw both at athletico and even last season. We should not forget that De Gea and Lloris had poor first season in EPL too. Hopefully Conte will put a rock solid defense in front of the lad.
March 20, 201610 yr Hes 23 and currently classed as one of the keepers in world football, yet people want us to sell him? Top clubs struggle to replace keepers all the time, we preempted the problem and now have a keeper that can be our first choice for a decade or more. Letting him go now after the first dip in his form would be unbelievably idiotic and short sighted. Back him, train out his weaknesses.

Agree with you, but i think keeping him on goal regardless of form is the wrong kind of backing,

March 20, 201610 yr Ridiculous talk of selling him he is still only 23! His best years are definitely ahead of him, I do think at the moment he is really struggling though and don't think it would be a bad thing to drop him for a couple of games.
March 21, 201610 yr Where do you guys get all this talk of selling him from? We are talking about providing competition whereby Courtois can step up his game and be a worthy starter in the team yet most of you are deviating from the obvious point just to give Courtois your backing. You are all getting pissed we were eliminated from the champions league but you all fail to highlight that he should have saved one or two from the four goals conceded against PSG. How you expect us to win the league with an average keeper in goal is beyond my comprehension!
March 21, 201610 yr Says people aren't listening to his point Ignores peoples point about Cortouis not being an average goalkeeper.
March 21, 201610 yr I don't think he is average, I think he is playing average, and certainly not doing better than Begovic was doing. Thus, what some of us are saying is "sit Courtois on the bench and put Begovic as first keeper in some games, keep up the pressure on Courtois so he can get to the level he had before, and improve him from there". I don't want to sell him.
March 21, 201610 yr I don't like how easily he seems to get at his near post. For me he is nowhere near as good as Cech was at his age.

How you expect us to win the league with an average keeper in goal is beyond my comprehension! He could maybe have done better with the cavani goal but he had no chance of the other 3, 1 deflection, 2 tap ins. He actually made some big saves in the 1st leg, so he would be the last place I would attribute blame to for our exit. He's a top goalkeeper, the thing that impressed me about him last season, was how many crosses and shots he caught, where most modern keepers would have punched. I think confidence has affected him greatly this year, but I'm certain he will bounce back.
March 21, 201610 yr Author And yet people rate Courtois as a top keeper, lol. Lol? Can't even wait for the game to end LOL. LOL? Haha. You know some people just can't resist ? After that game? Who's your player of the season, CFCholland?
March 21, 201610 yr So what is going on with his fella? Surely our defense is not near close to being rock solid and stable as it used to be, but that is why we have a "suppose to be" WC goalkeeper on goal line in the first place! I used to laugh at moments when Mignolet saved nearly impossible, and 10 minutes later conceed from an "easy-to-save" situation. But damn, Courtois is not far from the same problem! Truly unbelivable what is happening. I was always very calm when Cech was still in the blue shirt, now i know we are going to conceed every single game! Most possibly from a stupid not even the most sufisticsted playaction of the opposed team! And sry for my english, got a bit rusty through years :-)
March 21, 201610 yr I don't like how easily he seems to get at his near post. For me he is nowhere near as good as Cech was at his age. A young petr cech had the talent to save the team on his own and this makes a massive difference. A young petr cech before the injury was on par with if not better than de gea. I had the pleasure of watching him up close for a couple of years and his early performances where unbelievable and you would often enjoy rival teams taking shots just to see him make the saves. For a big man who is heavy built he was extremely quick. The only time I had ever seen him truly beaten was ronaldinho at the bridge and that goal was freak of nature. I would argue that if he never had that injury he would have gone on to be a better goal keeper than peter schmeichel. He still went on to make one of the finest displays in the history of the champions league and for that I will always love him. Courtois is good and potentially world class but this season everyone has been poor. I would be more worried for him if the team has been good and he had been this bad but really it is more of a collective responsibility right now.

I would be more worried for him if the team has been good and he had been this bad but really it is more of a collective responsibility right now. you are making it sounds like it's ok for Courtois to be poor because everyone on the team has been poor. I think it would give him chance to show how good of a GK he is and make some amazing saves like De Gea. In my opinion he was nothing special last season, he conceded too many goals and his distribution has been awful. He's not consistent at all. I know he's only 23 (will be 24 soon) but I don't see him improving much. I think if he was competing on the spot on the team he would improve. Perhaps he feels too safe knowing he will be 1st choice even if he doesn't perform during entire season. He doesn't need to fight for the 1st spot on the team and last season he refused to compete with Petr - to be that's a sh*tty addittude!!!
