March 24, 201610 yr Honestly looking back I think we should have flogged Tibo and kept Cech, Cech's still got years in him. There's something about Tibo I find unlikeable aswell and I hives toy think he's been overrated. I mean I was all for bringing the new guy in but he got the number 1 slot to easy IMO.
March 24, 201610 yr Look, the change evidently means a change of manager, that much is clear. He doesn't say this change could help them improve slightly, he says it would help them get back to their normal level. Ergo, a change of manger would solve everything performance wise... But it hasn't. You are making the assumption that "ergo, a change of manager would solve everything performance wise." I've been in situations, and you probably have too, when some change was needed, but it didn't have to be a specific change. Just something major. In this case, perhaps it didn't matter if the change was Emanalo going or Jose going or a completely new starting rotation or whatever. Some major change was needed. As it happened, Roman and the board decided that the change was Jose going. I have a feeling that if the change was Emanalo going or a completely new starting rotation, results would have improved as well. Admittedly, that could have been partly Jose's fault if a change in his management style or starting rotation would have been sufficient (my hunch is that it would have) but he refused to do it. Does Thibaut agree with me that it could have been some other change, or does he agree with you that it needed to be Jose going? I have no idea and neither do you. I can't believe that in the matter of a few pages I've gone from Thibaut's critic to defending him haha Edited March 24, 201610 yr by offside
March 24, 201610 yr "We needed a change of manager, i have no doubts about it" Okay this is important. I found the original interview in French. As a disclaimer, I am not a fluent French speaker and do not know about differences between French in Belgium versus mainstream French in France. When asked about the manager switch, Thibaut said, <<On avait sans doute besoin d'un changement à ce moment-là.>> ("A change was sans doute needed at that moment.") sans = without; doute = doubt Literally translated, sans doute means "without a doubt". In classic formal French such as you'd find in historical French literature, that would be an accurate translation. Curiously, sans doute NEVER means that in colloquial modern day French. It never expresses that degree of certainty. Among the older generation, a close translation would be "most likely but not definitely". Among the younger generation, it expresses even less certainty. A close translation would be "more likely than not". So Thibaut actually said, "A change was needed, more likely than not, at that moment." He did NOT say, "A change was, without a doubt, needed at that moment." Could the fluent French speakers on this board, especially those familiar with French in Belgium, confirm or disconfirm my understanding of sans doute?
March 24, 201610 yr I said when he came back that whilst there wasn't much in it for me cech's still the better keeper. that remains the case, however there is clearly so little in it and courtois is a decade younger. when he was at atletico most people on here were bemoaning the fact that our best keeper was playing against us instead of for us. he hasn't had a great season but nor has he been disastrously bad. he's been average in a period of severe turbulence but don't forget he won the league with atletico madrid (!) and then joined us, displaced another world class keeper and club legend and performed extremely well en route to us winning the league for the first time in five years. there are not more than 3 better keepers in the world. jack butland is now someone to replace him? jesus do we want this season to be a blip or our new level? one of the best things jose did for us in his second spell was to bring him back, convince him he'd get a shot at playing and get him to sign a five year deal when barcelona and real madrid were circling. courtois is probably the absolute last player in our squad we should think about selling. don't forget we had to rush him back from a severe injury- it is totally unrealistic and unfair to expect him to be at his best this season.
March 25, 201610 yr Author Ah. Ok. Please, accept my apologies, Scott Harris. They really shouldn't do that. Who is your player of the season? Is Flemish easier, Offside? http://www.sporza.be/cm/sporza/videozone/v_FIFAWK_voetbal/RodeDuivels/1.2607740
March 25, 201610 yr surely it all comes down to one question, why has his form been poor? if it comes down to him not being happy at chelsea, the next manager gets him happy or he goes.We have had 2 managers yet Courtois is still poor. The reason for his poor form is the awareness that regardless of his performance he can't be dropped and he can't be blamed. Its either we bring in top class defenders to make Coutois look good or we keep on conceding cheap goals.

Prior to this season he has been phenomenal, for us and Atletico.

March 25, 201610 yr "Until now I'd won a trophy every season. I tried to come back as strongly as possible [from the injury]. It's a pity that we're out of the FA Cup and the Champions League but I'm going to try to finish the season well and have a good European Championship with Belgium." "Then we'll start a new season with a new manager [at Chelsea] with the hope of doing a lot better than this year." 9 months is enough of a vacation then?
March 25, 201610 yr Rumours circling that Real madrid are trying to buy him, would cost them 73million. What are your guys' opinions on this? If we can find a good enough replacement, I'd be tempted to sell simply for the amount of money. But then again we have one of the top 5 best keepers in the world and hes only 23.
March 25, 201610 yr and who would be bought with the 73 mill? we have been getting good bucks on players, mata, luiz, ramires, but seem to sign who?, pato on loan.
March 25, 201610 yr and who would be bought with the 73 mill? we have been getting good bucks on players, mata, luiz, ramires, but seem to sign who?, pato on loan. I reckon you could buy literally almost any keeper in the world with 73m bar Neuer
March 25, 201610 yr Some more poor quotes from Thibaut coming out tonight, moaning about playing every three days here, saying training is lower quality than with Belgium and he has to work with youngsters...even says he feels like packing the game in...hope he's been misquoted...but have to say he's proving a major disappointment...not only is he a shadow of the keeper Pete was, he's a shadow of the man too..I was one that said chelsea had to choose head over heart and go for younger man in Cech v Courtois decision, starting to regret that now

March 26, 201610 yr "The level of training is higher among Devils. There are only world-class players (here), while at Chelsea, there are some players a little less rated and we often train with youngsters as well.”
