If We Didn't Already Know That FA Referees Were Awful

This is an absolute disaster of a call.  Mainly because of what the ref said after the match, which you can read here: http://www.espnfc.com/league-name/story/2323024/headline

First off, I don't think EITHER foul was deserving of a straight Red, but to give it to the wrong player, and then state afterwards that you made the right call, you have got to be kidding me!

In a way he has made things worse for himself. If he just said it was mistaken identity then it would have just been 1 error.

Wes Brown never even fouled Falcao at any point, so i have no idea what this ref thinks he has seen.

He has given the penalty for the wrong reasons and he's sent a player off for doing nothing wrong. So instead of saying he has made 1 mistake, he is saying he has made 2.

The assessor will probably say the ref got all of his decisions correct though like the assessor said in our game against Burnley.

It's all a mess right now and the F.A are doing nothing at all to help matters.

At least it doesn't have underlying tones of racism this time like the Gibbs/Oxlade-Chamberlain debacle from the 6-0 against Arsenal.

I just wish they would own up when they made a mistake, it smacks of the chocolate-covered kid claiming "I didn't eat that missing chocolate cake!"

Although it was the wrong decision I can understand it why the ref thought Brown had fouled Falcao too but having played advantage for the O'Shea foul he obviously should have punished the original offense.

That said should it have been a red card at all considering Brown and O'Shea were both involved does the last man rule count?

But it's clear on the replays that Brown didn't foul him at all yet the ref still thinks it was the right cal.

And the refs have just voted to delay testing of video tech? It's a shambles.

Really? That's unbelievable. I understand people have reservations about technology in football but to not even want to TEST it is ridiculous. No other sport has this irrational fear of technology.

I don't think they're saying based on replays are they? I thought the statement to clarify why the ref sent of Brown and not O'Shea, to confirm I wasn't a case of mistaken identity.

Okay Brown hasn't touched Falcao at all but that's what the ref thought he saw.

I am one of those people but even I can agree it's ridiculous that they aren't even wanting to test it.

I don't get why they can't just ask a few clubs to play in a pre season friendly tournament in the Summer and test the technology in that mini tournament. They could give it a hell of a test and also have it televised so people can see how it works right away.

Yeah but surely he's seen it on video since and knows he got it wrong?

He can't be seen "re-refereeing" the incident as we found out with the Matic/Barnes incident.

So all he can do is clarify the action he took.

Well the. He looks stupid cause Evryone can clearly see from the video he got it wrong, he can clarify the incident yes but he should also say having seen the video I can see I got it wrong. People would be a lot more forgiving if they owned up.

But he cant do that.

That's essentially video refereeing.

Sunderland can appeal the red card and a FA panel can assess the incident but the match day official can't get involved as it would undermine his own performance

Never do these refs cease to amaze me! What's worse is that the ref officiating this match can't even admit to his error.

So again I ask why aren't the all powerful PL pushing for the answers, they now carry far more clout than the insidious FA, Perhaps they will go on their own, with their own Refs, Refeerees and Refereeing need to be more accountable....

This is far from the worst decision this year, either way it was a pen and either way Stoke would have lost the game. Really it was probably an honest mistake although the blokes comments certainly haven't helped him.

Stoke? Don't you mean Sunderland

Was hoping the FA referee selection panel might take a look at the thread and scout me out.

Part of good article from Martin Samuel on video technolodgy.

Full article

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2974737/Premier-League-needs-video-replays-help-referees-sort-bloody-mess.html

It was business as usual in the Premier League on Saturday. The referee at Old Trafford did not know who had committed the foul, the one at Stoke City did not know what a foul was.

Stephen Ireland needed 12 stitches for a wound sustained in an incident that Neil Swarbrick did not even consider worthy of a booking, Wes Brown is surely certain to get the red card brandished by Roger East rescinded on appeal.

Both incidents could have been corrected, instantly, with the benefit of technology’s third eye, yet we remain several years away, at least, due to the intransigence of those who shape football’s rules

Some of us have long been sceptical about the use of video replays, and still are. But this cannot continue. We do not need manager challenges, or every goal wound back 10 phases of play to see if a reason can be found to cancel it.

We do not need to wait while officials crowd around a monitor and have a good look. We do not need replays from 12 angles, endless referrals, or a ruling on each thrown-in or offside in a fruitless quest for perfection. We just need to prevent travesties.

Call it a WTF ruling. Those moments when the watching millions stop in their tracks and say: WTF? Like Wes Brown getting sent off when it was plainly John O’Shea who committed the foul. Like Maynor Figueroa not even getting booked having put a mighty gash in Ireland’s calf. WTF?

These mistakes could have been rectified in an instant and during a natural break in play. In the case of Brown, a penalty had been awarded. In the case of Figueroa, a free-kick had been given and treatment was required.

There are no restart issues, and no need for lengthy analysis of footage. The rulings are straightforward and easily reached: you are sending off the wrong man; that was a red card offence. WTF?

The Dutch proposal, put on the back burner for another year by the law-makers of the International FA Board, is the best yet.
