Antoine Griezmann

If these proposed transfer bans are true, then Atletico may need to sell and Griezmann or Koke could end up leaving.

If they're facing a transfer ban aren't they more likely to hold onto their current players because they won't be able to replace them due to the ban?

So if anything it will make more sense to them to offer the likes of Griezmann and Koke improved terms on their current deals to ensure they stay during the ban period.

Possibly, but if an offer comes in that is too good to turn down and there's other areas they need strengthen, they could also try to cash in while they can than wait another couple transfer windows when griezmann or koke are less popular (depending on whether the next couple seasons for them are successful). At the end of the day, if they are offered double what they bought him for, then it may twist their arm, and if the rumours are true about felipe luis, that could be another bargaining chip in the deal. To be fair, i don't know if Atleticos dealings of young players is as severe or less than Real's, so they may still avoid a transfer ban.

But everything you just said is true regardless of if there is a transfer ban or not.

With regards to selling their players a transfer ban doesn't give them anymore incentive to sell their best players to cash in.

Nearly all clubs, with few exceptions, if they received a double your money offer on a player they bought a year ago would be tempted.

Question is, is Griezmann actually worth £40m upwards? That's some serious dollar.

Considering Costa, Hazard, Fabregas and Matic were bought for £32m or less I think you really have to asses if deals like this are good value.

I understand your viewpoint, i just think 2 (i'm assuming it's 2 anyway) summer transfer windows is a long time to wait to strengthen a team. Atletico aren't in a position like Real are where they have financial freedom to go out and spend lots of money in the summer, so if they could sell one or two key players (not ideal for them, obviously) for a high price and then bring in 3 or 4 good players with that money to add depth then they should. Atletico were doing brilliant without griezmann, so i am sure they will cope fine again if they lost him. I don't think he is worth 40 million, no way, but saying that, if Sterling is worth that and more, then maybe he is in this market.

In my opinion Lacazette would be a better buy then Griezmann, better stats and can be bought cheaper.

I keep hearing about him, but he's almost 24 years old and his stats aren't great (barring this season) for a striker/forward and from what i've seen of him, his style seems basic; there doesn't seem to be anything that special about him. He is also playing in one of the weaker leagues, so i don't think he's worth a gamble for the amount of money being touted for him.

I'd put more faith in players coming from Ligue 1 than Serie A nowadays.

Look what £27m got us from Italy.

I think players adapt to the Premier League much better coming from France, there's been a fair few success stories in recent years.

But they cant strengthen with 3-4 more. Thats the whole point. A transfer ban will make money useless to them for the imminent future, if anything its onky goibg to drive the prices further up

Stats for 2013/14 and 2014/15 Season so far:

Lacazette is 1-2 months younger then Griezmann. Griezmann is much more of a poacher then Lacazette when you compare how they score their goals, while Lacazette has more skills when it comes to creating chances for himself and others. The stats also shows this, I've circled red the biggest diffrence between these two players. I also don't think the french league is that much weaker then the spanish when you take Barcelona/Real/PSG out of the mix.

Would be a great addition especially if some of the rumours regarding Oscar and Salah are true and both are sold in the summer for a permanent fee. Hazard and Greizmann wingers with Willian playing in the centre and having Cuadrado as back up. Seems like a perfect plan, but one that sounds like it probably wont happen

Id take either, that would give us 5 for 3 positions which would be perfect. Plus with these guys able to fill in up top when needed is a bonus.

I would prefer Dybala to either of them. He is the closest of the three to Hazard in terms of style and technical ability. These guys score goals, but their all-round ability isn't particularly strong... and we've just sold a similar wide player in Schurrle. We don't really need more goals, we need consistency in style. We need players who compliment Hazard, Willian and Fabregas.

I think Shurrle could have been great, if he had a burst of pace and more technical ability, his off the ball movement was useful at times though. Both Griezmann and Lacazette have the same great off the ball movement, but unlike Shurrle they also know how to pass, dribble and have pace to beat defenders on their own. Most important is that they can replace Costa when he is injured, I'm not so sure Dybala can do the same job. I also question bringing in another player from Italy, when we look at what has happened with Cuadrado and Salah.

I agree, we have struggled with costa and remy's injury problems. There is no way we can get someone who has quality but is also willing to play third choice. We need a player who can be deployed on the wing or up top. Griezmann fits the bill. So does lacazette, personally i would prefer griezmann, i was hoping we signed him a year or so ago. I think if this 40ish mil release clause is true i'd say he's not bad value, he could quite easily be as highly rated as reus or hazard in a year or so time.

Exactly, he can play on the right. With griezmann we could have a similar attacking trio to barca's messi, neymar, suarez. Hazard, costa, griezmann.

Nah. Barca's front three are unmatchable.

Messi alone is better than Hazard, Costa and Griezzmann.

Nah no chance we are buying both Laca and Griezzmann. I think we should spend that on a good midfielder rather.

Why couldn't we get all 3? Seems like there's plenty of money available, with winning the league, and the new tv deal.

I think 80 odd mill net would be comfortable.
