September 28, 201510 yr Blatter has announced that he will stay. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34384930 Sepp Blatter to stay as Fifa president despite investigation Sepp Blatter has said he will not stand down as Fifa president despite criminal proceedings being opened against him by Swiss investigators. The Swiss, 79, is suspected of signing a contract that was "unfavourable to Fifa" and making a "disloyal payment" to Uefa president Michel Platini. Blatter, who will stand down as Fifa president in February, said he "had done nothing illegal or improper". Platini, 60, has written a letter to Uefa members denying any wrongdoing. In a statement released through his lawyers, Blatter said a £1.5m payment made to Platini, the head of European football's governing body, in 2011 was "valid compensation and nothing more". Both men are also facing investigation by Fifa's independent ethics committee over the payment, which Platini said was for work as Blatter's technical advisor between 1999 and 2002. Platini, who was interviewed as a witness by officers from the attorney general's office, stressed that the payment had been "fully declared" to the authorities. The Frenchman said he was "aware that these events may harm my image and reputation" and released a statement for "reasons of transparency". World governing body Fifa, which has been hit by a string of corruption allegations in recent years, has said it is co-operating with the investigation.
September 28, 201510 yr A few days after the US Environmental Protection Agency published a report about Volkswagen fiddling emission figures on diesel cars in the States the head of the German car company resigned. He may or may not have known about the problem but it was on his watch and did the right thing. Blatter, take note of what has happened at Volkswagen and perhaps you'll do the same. Can't see it though.
September 29, 201510 yr Former FIFA Vice-President Jack Warner banned from football for Life. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34388545 Former Fifa vice-president Jack Warner has been banned from football for life. The 72-year-old Trinidadian is the former head of Caribbean and North and Central American football (Concacaf), but quit Fifa in 2011. He is fighting extradition to the US on corruption charges and denies accepting millions of dollars in bribes. Warner committed "many and various acts of misconduct continuously and repeatedly" said the football world governing body's ethics committee. Fifa's ruling follows its own investigation into the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, which began looking at Warner's activities in January 2015. On Tuesday, Fifa said Warner had been found guilty of violating the organisation's code of ethics several times. A statement read: "In his positions as a football official, he was a key player in schemes involving the offer, acceptance, and receipt of undisclosed and illegal payments, as well as other money-making schemes." The United States wants to try Warner and 13 other current or former Fifa officials who were indicted in May. Prosecutors allege that Warner - who was one of football's most powerful figures whose support was seen as crucial for any World Cup host bid - has been involved in criminal corrupt practices for more than two decades. In June 2015, a BBC investigation found evidence of bribes paid to Warner.
September 30, 201510 yr FIFA looking to scapegoat Warner in an attempt to save Blatter? Wouldn't surprise me. It will be interesting to see if Warner starts to dish the dirt about Blatter.
September 30, 201510 yr The FA's latest view on Platini as FIFA President. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34407905

October 8, 201510 yr Blatter provisionally suspended for ninety days. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34468663 90 days would almost take him up to the date he is meant to step down in February, essentially leaving him with a short handover period. If he does get suspended he's days at FIFA are (thank God) as good as over.
October 8, 201510 yr Blatter, Platini and Valcke suspended for 90 days http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34474231
October 8, 201510 yr I wonder if the FA will now change its stance on Platini. It has to surely. But then, this is the FA we're talking about.
October 8, 201510 yr Fifa has provisionally suspended its president Sepp Blatter, secretary general Jerome Valcke and vice-president Michel Platini for 90 days. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34474231 Blatter is whinging about it: "A statement issued by Blatter's lawyers said the president was "disappointed" the ethics committee had not followed its own code in allowing him an opportunity to be heard, and claimed the suspension was based on "a misunderstanding of the actions of the attorney general in Switzerland". Hopefully this is just the beginning. I'm hoping this isn't just for show and that we might see some genuine change.
October 8, 201510 yr Couldn't make it up, suspend 3 on dodgy dealings, give the job to 2 people who have been done for dodgy dealings in the past. Is there anyone at fifa that s actually clean.
October 12, 201510 yr I'm sure you'll all be shocked to hear that Blatter and Platini didn't have a written contract agreement for the £1.35m payment made to Platini for the "work" he did between 98-02 (but for some strange reason was only paid in 2011). Blatter and Platini are taking the line of:
October 18, 201510 yr This headline caught my attention this morning: Fifa boss should remain in post - Bernie Ecclestone This is the same guy who refers to women as domestic appliances, thinks that Hitler is somebody who could "get things done", does not agree with democracy and is an outspoken supporter of Putin, oh and before I forget, has also been tried on bribery charges (for which he paid a settlement). The sooner the pair of them f**k off and die the better.

October 21, 201510 yr Saudi FIFA president? http://click.mail.theguardian.com/?qs=d14448de45ee3a04ff4c4562760d20efde15e71610cc4583626439e4b5fffafc Edited October 21, 201510 yr by Droogba
October 21, 201510 yr http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34587081 The payment to Platini was a conflict of interest. No surprise there.
October 21, 201510 yr Platini's account of the "gentleman's agreement" is hilarious. "with Blatter asking Platini to become his football adviser and enquiring how much money he wanted. Platini added: "I said 'a million'. 'A million what?' 'Whatever you want: roubles, pounds, dollars.' He said, 'OK, 1m Swiss francs a year.' Incredible though it may sound, that's what happened."" http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34569672 Yeah mate, pay me a million Chupa Chups lollies if you like, I ain't really fussed. In fact, tell you what, pay me 5 years after I've finished the work.
October 21, 201510 yr The latest on the Beckenbauer case. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34597198 The question will soon be: "who in UEFA and FIFA isn't corrupt?" Rather than who is. The list be shorter.
October 21, 201510 yr The whole thing is one big boys club. The truth will come out soon. Platini looks as if he's guilty and was paid not to run. The FIFA presidency will be decided 26 Feb but the quiet is whether Platini will be allowed to put himself forward. Surely a person who is banned from football for 90 days should not be able to put himself forward?
