June 3, 201511 yr This interview with the investigative journalist who did much of the groundwork for the investigation into FIFA/Blatter is a great read. Andrew Jennings is a hero. This is true journalism and all respect to the old fella. Makes some of the guff printed in rags look what it is, guff.
June 3, 201511 yr This is true journalism and all respect to the old fella. Makes some of the guff printed in rags look what it is, guff. It has made me want to track down his old Panorama documentaries. I found this one on YouTube (Fifa: Football's Shame), I might watch it tonight. https://youtu.be/qm-q75Z1NUs
June 3, 201511 yr He probably couldn't pull out once he had submitted everything. The delegates weren't arrested until last week, and he probably submitted what he had to well before that. When it came out, he did the only thing he probably could do- go through the motions, then resign in order to save face. There's a lot of innuendo in that post !
June 3, 201511 yr What's incredible is that this has all been in plain sight, everyone, even us common folk, knew about the scale of corruption and yet Shlep and gang carried on thinking they were untouchable and able to dupe the world.
June 3, 201511 yr What's incredible is that this has all been in plain sight, everyone, even us common folk, knew about the scale of corruption and yet Shlep and gang carried on thinking they were untouchable and able to dupe the world. And they were for a long time. Makes you wonder who should have called them up for their actions earlier? To paraphrase the famous saying, if all good men keep quiet, they get away with it for years.
June 3, 201511 yr Man, it's all coming out now. Whistleblower Chuck Blazer (ex-FIFA executive) is spilling the beans. French took bribes for '98 World Cup. Bribes involved in SA 2010 too... Edited June 3, 201511 yr by Blueblur
June 3, 201511 yr So that explains why France voted for Blatter last week. But why did Spain? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2845806/Is-moment-Spain-Qatar-plotted-World-Cup-heist-Real-Madrid-s-Bernabeu-Stadium.html vote-swap FIFA president Sepp Blatter told the BBC in February 2011: ‘I’ll be honest, there was a bundle of votes between Spain and Qatar.’ But both nations have always denied there was any vote pact. June 3, 201511 yr So someone help me understand the supposedly new FIFA.. - Blatter gives smaller nations legit money which they love - New guy comes in and could potentially stop that - loads of small nations don't vote or put pressure on FIFA - new president gives in and hands cash over It's not bribery but it's definitely blackmail. How will FIFA ever change given the enormous disparities between the nations?
June 3, 201511 yr The reason political ballots were made secret was so that bribes had no purpose. With secret ballots, voters could take the money and then vote for who they wanted and the person who tried to bribe couldn't know if their bribe had succeeded. Pretty simple way of ensuring bribery doesn't work. (But I'm sure I've missed something - it can't be that simple surely).
June 4, 201511 yr They say something is never over until the fat lady sings, well, in this case it's a fat man that has sung and if it's not actually over then it's well on it's way. As another rotund individual once said "Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning". Give 2022 to the Aussies
June 4, 201511 yr If he didnt what does it tell you about his ineptitude? He got elected five times? absolutely staggering.I never agreed with anything that fool ever said unlike one or two on here. Yeah it's pretty obvious being the president for 5 times for sure there is a secret agenda and that's what I want to know. If he was the one to start the corruption or someone is using him.
June 4, 201511 yr Jack Warner has changed his view. He now says that he has documents that implicate Blatter in corrupt activities. Mr Warner says that he fears for his life because of what he's saying and compared himself to Ghandi in terms of being a man alone, fighting wrong!! He said all of this on a commercial he paid for on local Tv. I wonder where he got the money from?

June 4, 201511 yr The backstabbing has begun in hopes of saving their own skin. It's a bit of a domino effect right now, one person has become a public whistle-blower and now others are following suit to try and shift the blame elsewhere before someone does it to them. Why this has taken so long to come to light I don't know but I'm glad it has.

Was always going to happen, there isn't a spot of integrity or backbone among them, so as soon as one card fell the rest was always going follow. No honer among thieves with this lot. I think we are only at the tip of the iceberg right now. My hope is that once all cards are on the table it becomes impossible to stage the 2022 world cup in quatar and it ends up where it always should have been, in Australia
June 4, 201511 yr I hope the whistleblowers don't get off lightly either, they should still lose all their money and see some time in gaol, for their cooperation they could see a reduced prison stretch but that should be it.

Considering you have people who are essentially slaves dying on the building sites for the stadiums for their World Cup you'll excuse me if I don't believe them to be particularly honourable.
June 4, 201511 yr Ha Ha Jack Warner comparing himself to Ghandi, that's funny...I wonder if Blatter will remake the long walk to freedom, with him in the Mandela role !!!

Let's just say the Qatar World Cup is "cancelled" , and is given to another country like Australia or whoever...what happens to all the stadiums they have built over there, where people have been dying during the construction? Do they just have to tear it all down?
