July 6, 201511 yr Sepp Blatter: Did he actually say that? This man has lost his mind Edited July 6, 201511 yr by Jezz
July 6, 201511 yr FIFA Official banned for seven years. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33416906 A Fifa official who assessed the bids for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups has been banned from all football-related activity for seven years. Football's world governing body said Harold Mayne-Nicholls, 54, has been suspended by its ethics committee. It said more information would be given when the "decision becomes effective". Mayne-Nicholls plans to appeal against the sanction - and has questioned why it was announced before he had been through the appeals process. Former Chilean Football Association president Mayne-Nicholls was one of five senior officials Fifa said last year were being investigated. He had admitted speaking to officials from Qatar's bid about possible work placements for three relatives at the country's Aspire youth academy. The ethics committee felt those conversations provided "cause enough to doubt the integrity of the inspection process and your evaluations", according to leaked emails between a committee member and Mayne-Nicholls. Analysis - Richard Conway, BBC Radio 5 live "Fifa says it will confirm their reasons for handing down the seven-year ban in due course - we don't yet know what articles of the code of ethics were breached but presumably they will centre around an alleged conflict of interest. "Meanwhile the news is likely to be heralded by Fifa president Sepp Blatter as further evidence the beleaguered organisation he continues to lead can tackle corruption as he continues to plan a reform agenda." Mayne-Nicholls chaired Fifa's bid evaluation group for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, which were awarded to Russia and Qatar respectively. In his 2010 report to Fifa, Mayne-Nicholls - who had been considering standing in this year's Fifa presidential election - expressed serious concerns about conditions in Qatar, where summer temperatures can reach 50C. Mayne-Nicholls was one of several senior Fifa officials to call for an independent report into the award process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to be published in full. In December, Fifa decided to publish a "legally appropriate" version of the report, written by American lawyer Michael Garcia, who later resigned, citing a lack of leadership. Swiss authorities have already begun a criminal investigation into how the 2018 and 2022 World Cups were allocated. Meanwhile, nine senior Fifa officials are facing separate investigations of corruption, with US prosecutors alleging they accepted bribes and kickbacks estimated at more than $150m (£100m) over a 24-year period.
July 9, 201511 yr Chuck Blazer given life ban from football. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33458803 Chuck Blazer: Fifa gives life ban from football to former member Fifa has banned former executive committee member and ex-Concacaf general secretary Chuck Blazer from all football related activity for life. Blazer, 70, worked undercover with prosecutors in the United States after pleading guilty to charges of bribery, money laundering and tax evasion. A Fifa statement said Blazer "committed many and various acts of misconduct". In May, 14 Fifa officials were indicted on charges of racketeering, fraud and money laundering. More to follow.
July 19, 201510 yr It would be good to see Blatter doing hard time in an orange jumpsuit, sharing a cell with big Bubba the bast*rd, and sundry other loons, but I fear he will wriggle away from this and leave smaller minions to take the rap. A rap on the knuckles all round, then business as usual, is my guess. Ditto on all account. May sound pessimistic but they say power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, in the case of FIFA the worst offenders will jettison their human shields to take the hit. Probably see Blatter become CEO of a Fortune 500 organisation if he ever leaves. I joke but really I don't....
July 20, 201510 yr Lee Nelson just showered Sepp Blatter with money at the FIFA press conference. What a legend.
July 20, 201510 yr Legend! It's crazy how he can just wear a suit and walk in like that. He could have been aiming to do a lot more damage than simply making it rain!
July 21, 201510 yr Out of curiosity, what's going on with Sepp? Didn't he resign? If so, why is he still leading the organization?
July 21, 201510 yr "Comedian who threw cash at Blatter to be charged" When I read that headline i was sure he had been charged by FIFA, such is their flagrant disregard for rules and law.
July 27, 201510 yr http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33681460 Fifa wants 'independent' leader for reform taskforce Fifa has said its reform taskforce will be chaired by an independent person from outside of football. Fifa president Sepp Blatter announced plans last week to form an 11-person panel to review football's scandal-hit world governing body. Domenico Scala had earlier said he would only lead the taskforce if he is guaranteed full independence. The Swiss businessman is already the independent chair of Fifa's audit and compliance committee. Scala was believed to have been prepared to lead the taskforce, after meeting presidents of three of Fifa's six continental confederations. But a spokesman for Scala told BBC Sport: "Domenico Scala never applied for such a chairmanship." He added that the post would only be considered "under the strict condition" that "independence was guaranteed". As well as being led by an independent chair, the taskforce will have two representatives from the AFC (Asia), CAF (Africa), Concacaf (North, Central America and the Caribbean) and Uefa (Europe), as well as one representative from each of Conmebol (South America) and the OFC (Oceania). In a statement, Fifa said representatives from federations would not necessarily have to be "members of the football community" and the confederations could decide that themselves. Blatter, who has announced his intention to stand down as president, has said presidential term limits and integrity checks for top officials are potential areas of reform. Recommendations are due to be presented at the next meeting of Fifa's executive committee in Zurich on 24 and 25 September. The prospect of Scala leading an independent review of Fifa was described as "laughable" by campaign group New Fifa Now. More to follow.
July 28, 201510 yr Unbelievable. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/jul/27/fifa-sepp-blatter-nobel-prize-russia-president-vladimir-putin?CMP=EMCNEWEML6619I2
July 28, 201510 yr Am guessing that Putin thinks he should receive the prize for literature given the number of stories that Blatter has produced.
July 29, 201510 yr Platini to stand for presidency of FIFA. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33700638
August 9, 201510 yr Make it rain! He's quite possibly the most unattractive striped you're likely to meet. Good thing is you know he loves to get down and dirty.
August 25, 201510 yr The latest from Blatter. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34044182 Yeah, and if you believe that, there's a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you.

September 25, 201510 yr http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-34363289 Fifa President Sepp Blatter is currently being questioned by representatives of the Swiss attorney general. In a statement, the attorney general's office said it had opened "criminal proceedings" against Mr Blatter. It said he was being investigated "on suspicion of criminal mismanagement as well as - alternatively - on suspicion of misappropriation". Earlier, Fifa cancelled a press conference at its Zurich headquarters. The Swiss attorney general's office said the investigation surrounds a TV rights deal Mr Blatter signed with former Caribbean football chief Jack Warner in 2005. Mr Blatter is also suspected of "a disloyal payment" in 2011 to UEFA president Michel Platini, the statement said. Fifa said it was co-operating with the Swiss attorney general and had complied with its requests for information. "We will continue this level of co-operation throughout the investigation," it said.
September 25, 201510 yr To see Blatter and Platini tried and, if found guilty, sentenced accordingly, would be the start of a new dawn for football. Wondering what old time poster Liam is making of these developments.
September 25, 201510 yr Surely Platini can't run for presidency now and should be suspended from UEFA until it's over. The FA will look like mugs if Platini is guilty - they've already said they will vote for him.
September 26, 201510 yr I haven't looked in the Narco thread but after seeing a few episodes I bet you could merge it with this one, switch Pablo Escobar with Sepp Blatter and Cocaine with FIFA, and no one could tell the difference.
