Josh McEachran off to Brentford

To be fair, they could be his girlfriends or perhaps he has a pet beagle who has been unable to kick the habit!

The former Chelsea man collided with Toumani Diagouraga in training and the medical reports have confirmed that he has broken three bones in his foot.

Head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen was bemoaning the freak accident and felt as if nothing had happened in the incident.

He said: “Bad news, yesterday in training McEachran broke three bones in his foot so he will be out for at least three months so that is not good.

“He had contact with Toumani and blocked the ball. It seemed like nothing happened but he was off to hospital.

“It's an accident. It's bad news for the club and the squad.”

Poor lad. Doesn't appear to be getting too many breaks in his career. Or rather he does. Oh never mind.

He'll be back.

Or perhaps he had a party where people brought their vodka and Bacardi?

My point is more that living a nomadic life farmed out from one club to another doesn't help you settle into a style of play and develop. He could have been really very special if given a run in the team but we'll never know. This is is exactly what will happen with Bamford too if he doesn't get a chance this year.

I tend to agree with this post. The constant farming out of players on our books ( I believe it's 33  now ) is quite baffling. How on earth are they expected to get into the Chelsea mindset and learn from it if they are shipped out to all and sundry ? Hector being the latest example.

Surely knowing how to adapt and play many different styles of play is beneficial to any player, and there is definitely monetary value for us having this loan system. It also leads it up to the player showing a lot about there determination and mentality.

Also this year Traore has shown you can play your way into the squad with a good loan hopefully he can force his way into getting some game time.

Traore is different. I believe if he had qualified for a visa to work in England last year he wouldn't have gone on loan. His case is very different to that of McEachran or many of our other loan players.

His case isn't that different, They were both sent to Vitesse to improve themselves as players and to show what they can do, Traore went and proved himself, and McEachran struggled to even get into the set up, do we really want a player in the squad that can't even push his way into the Vitesse side.
I get some players don't have the mentality to do well on loans but if you have that mentality you will never be able to become an elite footballer anyway, despite all there talent. Look at Balotelli he had all the talent in the world but wasted it away, the mentality and character of a player means a lot and if you don't have it you won't succeed.

I think the point you make about mentality & character is a valid and good one. That has always been part of the game but now so more than ever. Players are hugely rewarded these days but the pressures to perform at the top and do so week in week out are immense. A player like Frank Lampard will probably be the first to admit that he wasn't the most gifted player in the world but he more than made up for that with his sheer determination to prove the doubters wrong.

But it isn't quite as black & white as you paint it. Sure 2 young players from Chelsea go on loan to Vitesse and one does well and the other doesn't.

But they are totally different players playing in different positions. Josh would always get played as the deep-lying central midfielder, whereas Traore is a wide attacking midfielder and you will always get noticed more if you are scoring goals. McEachran was also injured a fair bit whilst at Vitesse - as he is again now. Early on he was likened to Jack Wilshere and although it appears he won't hit the same heights as Wilshere, it looks like he will rival him in terms of injuries.

Can't be true, just no way

I'd love to see him fulfil the amazing potential he showed under Carlo. An exceptional talent who's just not developed, at least partly down to so many failed loans, but no doubt partly due to his lack of application.

Forget Josh - it's all about George now!

I see Josh's younger brother George is in our latest Academy squad and in the 3-2 defeat against Southampton he was wearing the No. 10 shirt.

Looks very much like Josh but I'm going to have to get used to players playing who were born in the year 2000!!

How'd he play Nibbsy?

How'd he play Nibbsy?

I'll be honest, I only saw brief highlights which was mainly the goals but he looks decent enough. Time will tell - hopefully he will avoid soap star girlfriends!
