Surely we could have given those miniutes to a young player who actually might have a future here

This for me.

Nothing against the player, never seen him play, I would just prefer if we used a young player to fill that role if we can't sign the likes of Stones, etc.

Kalas and Christensen are our main prospects but are seemingly deemed not ready.

Kalas couldn't get game time in the top tier and dropped down a division last year and Christensen has no senior experience.

This is a cheap short term option where I imagine the end goal is still to buy Stones and maybe see one of the other two lads come through to provide competition.

Even if he's decent enough for the premier league. If we have to move him on to get Stones in January or later then it shouldn't be too hard to recoup the money spent.

I guess as a super emergency backup central defender/midfielder on a 2ish year contract he wouldn't be so bad.

I thought the idea of these closing moments of the transfer window though was to buy a powerful central midfielder capable of playing the biggest matches of the season?

This for me.

Would you not agree that it's better for those players to be out on loan gaining 1st team experience to deam if they are good enough rather then not getting game time.

dunno why people are having meltdowns over this signing. He is a stop gap/short term signing, has experience at a good level (which our youth defenders don't have) and is a big, physically powerful defender. who else could we have signed that wouldn't cost a fortune and would have to get behind terry, cahill and zouma in the pecking order? this guy is costing us 2+ million and provides some depth in defence. i don't see any negative to this to be honest because in january i reckon we'll get our man, stones or strengthen a little more elsewhere. while city are out spending, we are biding our time until jan and next season to splash the cash again! lovely jubbly!  :JC_doubleup:

Why? He's definitely an upgrade on Drogba who he has replaced in the squad.

He hasn't had any decent minutes yet only sub appearances coming on when we're down to 10 men or chasing a game. In that limited time he's got himself a well taken goal and showed enough to suggest he can contribute more than Drogba did last year.

I think bamford couldve contributed just as much falcao, if not more

Yes, it was very well taken goal. But he is having trouble staying on his feet, he is poor in the air, and he cant hold the ball up. We are struggling to create chances, and falcao is just a poacher now.

Only has a year on his contract remaining apparently? So, there's every chance that, not only can we recoup the fee, but we may be able to sell at a profit.

Creating chances hasn't been our problem, finishing has. That's what Falcao is here to do.

Bamford has no top flight experience, he's not ready for us just yet.

Let's see how he gets on at Palace first before saying he'd do better than a player with Falcao's scoring record.

Yep, absolutely. Another premier league team would easily pay over double if he handles the league well.

Depends on the player, some like Ake prove far more in the few games they get here than they do out on loan.

Its like when youre playing FM, and 2 days before deadline you are desperate for another player just for depth sake. So you go into search, tick tackling/positioning/heading to be over 10. Half a dozen nobodies valued at a couple of million pop up, you say f**k it, send an offer for all of them, 1 gets accepted, deal done.

the problem is there are limited options in this window, even more so in defence. we sign a guy and he won't automatically take first team spot, so we have to shop around as best as possible. like jose said, it's the opportunity window and we can only buy what's available and if we're not going to be held ransom by clubs then move on to plan b or c. like the talk of pogba, we aren't going to pay 70 million for him, that's for certain.

Worth bearing in mind that we have a very good record of buying from France. Drogba, Essien, Dave, Zouma

And Cech!

You're absolutely right, I feel much better. Not sarcasm in case it comes across like that, I'm serious.

Before palace, our shots per game ratio was among the worst in the league.

Personally I feel Christensen would have benefitted A LOT more from playing with the U-21, trained with the first team and then be given a few cameos here instead of a random loan. Its not like this guy has lots of top flight experience

Do you expect that a side containing Fàbregas, Hazard, Pedro, Oscar will over the course of the season not be within the top four/five of most creates chances in the league?
