Papy Djilobodji

Chelsea’s search for defensive reinforcements before Tuesday’s transfer deadline has prompted a move for the Nantes centre-half Papy Djilobodji, with the player set to undergo a medical ahead of signing a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge in a cut price £2.7m move.

Djilobodji, a Senegal international, had entered the final 12 months of his deal at the French club and, having made clear his desire to depart this summer, has been training with the development squad at Nantes over recent weeks. A bid of around £1.6m from the Turkish club Trabzonspor was rejected last week, with the 26-year-old having also attracted interest from Celta Vigo, only for Chelsea to make known their interest over the weekend.

While Djilobodji has impressed in Ligue 1, the transfer would still represent something of a surprise given the Premier League champions had been aiming considerably higher for much of the summer. Four bids for the Everton defender John Stones, the last totalling around £38m, had been rejected and, once that pursuit had run aground, enquiries had been lodged with Zenit St Petersburg for Ezequiel Garay and with Athletic Bilbao for Aymeric Laporte. Both deals would have been complicated, and expensive, to complete.

Chelsea’s Nigeria international Victor Moses is to sign a contract extension before leaving on another season-long loan, most likely to West Ham United. Jeremie Boga is likely to make a similar move to Rennes in his native France, while Nathaniel Chalobah will become the 29th player to leave on loan this summer when he joins Napoli.

Hopefully the lad can play right back to provide a bit of much needed competition.

Once again we see the fickle nature of the modern Football fan. Saying we should stop paying stupid Monet, asking why we can't find any cheap gems etc. Then when we sign someone who none of us know just how good he is start moaning and whingeing asking why aren't we spending all the money.

From John stones and Pogba to this. How the mighty have fallen. This whole window has been a complete f**king disaster.

Wouldn't class Falcao, Pedro and Begovic as "disasters".

I know we're in a rough patch form wise right now but lets try and keep the melodrama to a minimum.

I wouldnt call it a complete disaster considering we got Pedro. But it's been a disappointment for sure.

For me, signing Falcao makes it more of a disaster.

I take it you're more of a Degas fan?

For me, signing Falcao makes it more of a disaster.

Why? He's definitely an upgrade on Drogba who he has replaced in the squad.

He hasn't had any decent minutes yet only sub appearances coming on when we're down to 10 men or chasing a game. In that limited time he's got himself a well taken goal and showed enough to suggest he can contribute more than Drogba did last year.

This can't be

You mean like when it all turns out to have been a bad dream?

We really are signing John Stones and Pogba and not Papy Jellybodgejob.

Thank God for that.

They're clearly isn't time to move for one of our better targets. There club aren't to blame for this, it's Everton's fault for leading us down the garden path all summer long Edited by AndyBlue82

I doubt you could blame Everton for any of it, they refused to do business with us from the moment we made our first bid. If anything, they proved that they weren't bluffing. The fault lies with whoever made the decision from our end to continue our pursuit of Stones, expecting Everton to give up and sell him.

I'd say it takes two to be led down a garden path. The one who's doing the leading and the idiot who allows himself to be led.

First time ever I hear this name. Someone know anything about him, how has he played last season?

According to French Football Weekly:

“In his 31 appearances last season he picked up 11 yellow cards and Nantes conceded 29 goals when he was on the pitch - and just nine clean sheets.

“No one saw this move coming - no one in France quite believes it.

“It would be the most bizarre transfer of the century...but French paper 20 minutes is reporting that FC Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji is having a medical at Chelsea.”
