September 9, 201510 yr Does any stand out. A few obvious ones such as The Green Mile and All Dogs Go To Heaven for me. The reason for this thread was a movie called 'A Walk To Remember'. Had no idea what it was and it hit far too close to home and caught me out of nowhere. Anyone else been caught out unsuspectingly?

September 9, 201510 yr The Magdalene Sisters Kes Invictus. The Magdalene Sisters left me stunned and emotionally drained. I can't say that about many films. The ending in particular is very sad. After I watched it I had to watch a comedy to cheer myself up.
September 9, 201510 yr Mississippi burning Legends of the fall Last of the Mohicans All brilliant films btw if you haven't seen them.
September 9, 201510 yr Author I haven't seen any of them. When Brooks leaves the prison in The Shawshank Redemption is very powerful and hard hitting. I won't go into detail in the event someone hasn't actually seen the movie. The whole institutionalisation of prison and the struggle after it was absolutely brutal to watch.
September 9, 201510 yr Basketball Diaries. Moving, but I meant Sleepers. Edited September 9, 201510 yr by Droogba

I won't go into detail in the event someone hasn't actually seen the movie. The whole institutionalisation of prison and the struggle after it was absolutely brutal to watch. Great spot mate. It's true that people seem sometimes to become institutionalised in the prison system and eventually only feel safe in the four walls of a cell.
September 9, 201510 yr David Niven in A Matter Of Life And Death Always gets me, just about anything gets me going if the plots and acting's good, and the music is timed right.... Stand out ones: Schindlers List The Pianist Dances With Wolves Edited September 9, 201510 yr by NorthernMonkey

September 9, 201510 yr OOPS!! Mea maxima culpa!! I was confusing The Pursuit of Happiness with Happiness, which is the one Youlots told me about, and is brilliant. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0147612/ Now on my list.
September 9, 201510 yr Here is another for your list, twin. I don't know if I would describe it as "emotional" ion the tear-jerking sense, but...Orphans is fantastic! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119842/
September 10, 201510 yr Seven Pounds. It might be the Will Smith film that FC is talking about but you spend two hours trying to work out what the hell he is doing then when it is all revealed at the end it hit me like a punch in the stomach!
September 10, 201510 yr Not an emotional film, but a very emotional novel which hasn't (as far as I know) thank goodness, left the page. 'Middlesex' by Jeffery Eugenides. 'Emotional', one may assume a softer, tearful emotion. 'Two Caravans' (Marina Lewycka) moved me to anger and is as pertinent now as when it was written.
