They tried to target the left hand side of the pitch and get Yarmolenko on the ball as often as possible but he as always he came out on top against his opponent. 

Thought Dave did a good job and Matic and Ramires were good and Hazard and Fabrgas improved but Willian MOTM for me.

Definitely Willian for me - our best player yesterday and so far this season.

 

I thought Matic had his best game of the season so far and looked almost back to his best when he just dominates his way through players, so he would be a close second.

Perhaps I'm missing something but what did Willian actually do as an attacking midfielder in a game that we failed to score in to be MotM? 

Matic for me. Finally he showed his class, didn't allow to shoot from his position, covered the right side, also showed good skills in the attack.

He hit the bar with a great free kick and went close near the end of the game but that's about all I can remember from him.

But that's just it, it was from a dead ball again that he did anything. 

 

With regards to a contribution in open play in attack I can't remember him doing anything? 

I don't think willian played that we'll either. He pressed well first half and put 2 good free kicks in.

Matic was fantastic

Yarmolenko will not come up against a better full back display than azpiliucueta put on last night, so Dave would be my motm.

Willian for me.

My MOTM goes to the same player who's been our MOTM in pretty much every game so far, Azpilicueta.

Matic for me.

I think we actually had three players who could genuinely be worth a vote in the poll for this game which is hopefully a good sign, Matic looking like getting back to his better form, Azpi so consistent that he's always in the reckoning and Willian starting to behave the same way.

 

I understand the posters who wouldn't vote for an attacking midfielder in a game that ended 0-0 where his best effort was a dead ball situation but for me without Willian we might have lost the game, his engine and his readiness to chase everything down must make defenders very nervy and for his attitude and willingness to keep doing it for the cause, he has to get my vote.

Well at least we had more than one contender for MoTM for a change. But Willian was still the winner.

Matic and Willian probably equally worthy, although I voted for Matic, largely for the relief factor.

But at what point do we start saying yes the attackers are running around and closing down a lot but they aren't actually, y'know, attacking.

Probably about the 8th of August, obviously something isn't right but I don't think Willian and his work rate even with the perceived lack of end product is it.
