I'll be the one to start the thread. Important for us to win this one, as horrendous as our domestic form is the CL is one competition where almost virtually anything can happen, and I'd love a decent run this year. Thoughts on the lineup?

Cup-run can do wonders. We have already messed our chances on Prem and League Cup but all to play for in CL.

Doesn't really matter at this point. Realistically we're not going to win the CL if we are so bad we're 15th in the league. Any top side like Barca or Real would hit double figures against us. Would be better to focus on improving the league position.

Sadly I think it's more important than that, I think we need to get through the group stages as if Roman is to have a rush of blood to his trigger finger it's most likely to be as a result of an early exit in the CL.

Differing points of view lads. I guess I am torn here because even if we do get through this group if we get a tough draw for the last 16 it is hard to see us progressing. Ending up in the Europa gives us a better chance of winning it and being in next seasons Champions League.

I understand what you're saying but imagine another Europa victory with another Interim? I don't think I could stomach it,  I'd much prefer to have Jose at the helm next season even if that meant we went out in the knockout stages and missed out on CL next year.

 

I very much doubt that if we went out in the groups we'd win the Europa as I think if Mourinho is sacked (which an early CL exit may mean) the next man in will struggle, unlike when the FSW came in as we had a much tougher spine to the team then.

No point even going for this, imagine what Barcelona would do to us this season....

Would be nice to progress to stop the abuse we're all getting but let's be honest, we're not going to get much further than the group stage this season.

We weren't the best team when we won it so miracle can happen.. Also, it's well noted that qualifying to the knockout stage will be considerably beneficial to us financially.. With a lil bit luck on the draw, a semi can be achieved.. 

 

I hope the players will put on hold whatever agenda they have with the manager and try to win this one because this match could be the deciding factor whether we're going to qualify alongside porto or not..

AVB, the newly linked Interim. Yeah was hard to enjoy that previous victory. Only Roman knows if Jose is for the chop.

Looks bettern than anything JM has fielded this season. Thus there's zero chance of us actually starting the game like that

Of course we want to progress and do well. I don't believe for one minute that progressing in the CL will hurt our chances in the league. Confidence is confidence, and we need it where ever we can find it. I don't understand the argument that you want to go out of the CL/Europe to concentrate for the league, since concentrating on the league presumably means getting into Europe again?! 

 

We won't win the CL this year, but it would do wonders for the lads if they showed they could go a few rounds with the best in the knock-out stages (which they can!) If we win this one and beat Macabi away (which should be doable!), we're through ... 

 

Dynamo Kiev are tricky, though, but we did ok against them last time.

Hoping for a win but would take a good performance and a draw right now.

Kiev are playing with a lot of confidence. They only have one loss in the last 12 games (to league leaders, Shaktar) - I know the Ukrainian League isn't BPL but they have yet to lose in CL as well.

We have lost 7 of last 13, as if anyone needs reminding.

Can't do anything about that.

This game is all that counts.

 

Win - we go first or second in group table with better head-to-head versus Kiev

Draw - we remain third in group with two games to play - Maccabi away and Porto home = good chance to qualify for Round of 16

Lose - CL over for this year (not technically) and JM sacked (a loss in game four of CL - away at Juve - was the trigger for RA getting rid of RdM - and he had just won the holy grail of CL and an FA Cup after resurrecting our season following AVB disaster).

As I said, I would take a good performance and a draw right now.

Lose this and José is a goner. He needs to pick players who he knows are willing to play for him.
