Posted May 19, 20168 yr Apparently Conte's no1 target is Senegal international and Napoli stalwart Kalidou Koulibaly, while also keeping tabs on Emanuel Mammana, 20 yo River Plate Argentine. Does Chelsea need another defender or is Cahiil, Terry, Ivanovic and Zouma it? http://www.transfermarketweb.com/?action=read&idsel=172672
May 19, 20168 yr We have one of the hottest young CBs out on loan in CHristensen. Zouma when back from injury has massive potential. JT is here for one more year and Cahill and Ivanovic do a decent job at CB most of the time. I don't think we need anyone else right now.
May 19, 20168 yr Author I would sell Ivanovic though. If Conte goes 3 at the back we need 5 defenders especially with Terry not able to play week in week out. That said no Europe so we don't need a very wide squad. Terry Cahill Zouma Christensen is a bit thin...
May 19, 20168 yr Christensen won't be back next season, I would guess that extending JT by a year means that his place will be taken by Andreas for the start of the 17/18 campaign. I'd expect next season will be; JT, Cahill, Zouma, newbie Ivan should be back up for Azpi, nothing more
May 19, 20168 yr Depends what source you look at. His no 1 target according to the times and Sky.... Incoming Blues boss Antonio Conte has been linked with a host of players since it was confirmed the Italian will take over at Stamford Bridge this summer. The Times say he is determined to sign a centre-back and that Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci, who has played under him for the Turin club and the national team, is his first choice.
May 19, 20168 yr Author Very likely. That said Bonucci will be way more expensive and why would be drop the Italian champions and CL contenders for Chelsea? Koulibaly is a slightly more realistic target. I wonder in general how much lack of CL football will hurt out purchasing power. Edited May 19, 20168 yr by Jon Stakes
May 19, 20168 yr Out of interested, have you ever started a rumours thread about a player who isn't African?
May 19, 20168 yr Would be suicide to go into next year without a new CB, as for Jon posting about Africans I for one find it pretty handy to get an insight into players we wouldn't normally discuss
May 19, 20168 yr Out of interested, have you ever started a rumours thread about a player who isn't African? i noticed that. there isn't a lot of top african players out there at the moment. when we got drogba, mikel and essien, there was also eto'o and jay jay okocha etc, but now there's a scarcity of good african players.
May 19, 20168 yr Author Out of interested, have you ever started a rumours thread about a player who isn't African? No. Although the Kwadwo Asamoah thread is way more than simple rumour. Most likely he'll be the first confirmed buy.

Definitely a downturn, especially with Yaya Toure on his last legs, but we are on the up: Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Nwakali... in general the whole next generation of Nigerian footballers... Will be an interesting squad to watch develop and can't wait to see the team at the Olympics. As for top African footballers at the moment (recognised, not my subjective point of view) the list for season 2015/2016 would probably be (in no particular order): Riyad Mahrez (Algeria) Yacine Brahimi (Algeria) Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang (Gabon) Serge Aurier (CIV) (online mindmelt aside he is class) Vincent Enyeama (Nigeria) Andre Ayew (Ghana) Sadio Mane (Senegal) Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal) Sofiane Boufal (Morocco) Islam Slimani (Algeria) Edited May 19, 20168 yr by Jon Stakes
May 19, 20168 yr having three young prospective CB in Christensen, Zouma, and Koulibaly would cause a headache. it's a good problem to have, but a problem nonethelessi would prefer Bonucci. much more experienced and already at his peak Edited May 19, 20168 yr by magichat
May 19, 20168 yr Cahill and Ivan could stick around a while longer at CB. It's whether we want to upgrade or if we think they are good enough still.
May 19, 20168 yr I heard that our own Papy Djilobodji is better than Koulibaly and he's only the fourth best defender at Werder if you believe Squawka. That Werder Bremen must have one hell of a side http://www.squawka.com/players/papy-djilobodji/stats#performance-score#sv-werder-bremen-%28current%29#german-bundesliga#22#season-2015/2016#169#all-matches#1-33#by-match

At least understand the stats you are posting. Squawka ratings are a summary of the entire season. The more games you play, the more points you have. Djilobodji played 13 games out of a possible 34 and he gained his points from just 13 games (averaging 13 points per game), as compared to the other defenders who have points from 28-32 games (averaging 8 pts, 9 pts and 15 pts per game - yes, Vestergaard had a higher average, but the Dane actually had a great season, his value at Transfermarkt spiked this season). If you really want to go statwise Papy Djilobodji averaged 7,31 @ Whoscored, which is the highest average of all the players at Bremen. To put that into perspective it would make him a top 20 player in the Bundesliga and the 4th best defender in the Bundesliga behind Matt Hummels, Joel Matip and left back Jonas Hector (he's not listed, because you need to play at least half the games to be on the general listing. It also means he has a higher season Whoscored average than any other Chelsea player - be it at the club (Willian has 7,2) or on loan (such as Juan Cuadrado, Andreas Christensen, Nathan Ake, Dominic Solanke, Kenneth Omeruo or Mohamed Salah). Hope that puts his Werder Bremen loan performance in perspective for you guys. Edited May 19, 20168 yr by Jon Stakes
May 19, 20168 yr Hope Werder keep him and give us our money back, that would be the best outcome for both parties here. It's clear Conte has plans for JT and with Zouma coming back and his Italian connections I doubt Papy would picture for us.

May 19, 20168 yr I see Caceres is available on a free transfer.. Played under Conte has decent pace and played for some top clubs, might be worth a punt at 29.

You rate this guy , myself and many others don't.Live with it. His passing stats are the glaring weakness in his game , under 80% for a CB is poor.

And for one thing don't compare apples and oranges. What you did was the equivalent of letting one team play 10 matches and the other play 30 matches and then ridiculing the first team for having just 2/3 the same amount of points. Absurd to put it lightly At least admit you messed up with your stat. But no... you decided to pretend like you didn't. But you did. And the best retort you could come up with is... but but but but but he's a weak passer... Fact remains that Djilobodji ended up with a higher season rating on Whoscored than every single Chelsea player, including on loan players you are salivating about like Ake or Christensen... May 19, 20168 yr I would like us to get one Top cb (Bonucci or Manolas) and one ok-ish cb (maybe Kalas can do the job). We could have a roster of : Bonucci, Zouma, Kalas, Ivanovic, Terry and Miazga. Get rid of Cahill in the summer and loan Miazga out in January once Zouma is back from Injury.
