Rapid Vienna VS Chelsea (Pre-Season) 16/07/2016 KO 17:00 BST

JT was bad in the game, he just watched on, it could have been more to rapid and JT was lacklustre in their attempts..

Ok, the mistake of ivanovic could happen to anyone so I won't be too critical on that but I have to point out the part where conte disappointed me and that is when he kept playing ivanovic as right back and kept both ivanovic & JT for full 90 minutes..

Ivanovic's mistake could happen to anyone, but its been happening to him a lot this past year.

Overall however I agree that we shouldn't be too critical. One side is ready for the season, the other just started training a few days ago under a new coach. This especially exonerates the defensive setup, but again we have warning signs in final third creativity. This should be worrying - preseason or not. That said a midfield three of RLC, Mikel and Matic is as uncreative as they come.

I was however thinking that maybe just maybe Victor Moses isn't really performing on loan, because he's fed up and demotivated of being sent on loan after loan, despite looking good every pre-season and having one pretty good season with us. Changing his club setup season after season may just deflate his motivation? And maybe its a question of rewarding him somewhat? Let him stay, give him some minutes, I feel that he might be a great bench option to liven up our attack and introduce something more direct.

Crikey we've seen some irrational posts on game threads, but this is silly.

I'll admit to not seeing the game, but it was just a friendly, Conte has had the team for 5 minutes, let's give him and the players time to change to his ways.....even Ivan :-)

No need for such drastic measures, just avoid the match threads. ;-)

It will be interesting to see how we develop in the coming weeks. Clearly by Conte's comments he feels that we have a mindset that needs altering, our approach to games has been to sit too deep. Getting his ideas across initially will be hard and a couple of big names might get their noses pushed out of joint. Given time though we will benefit from the coach's new ideas and probably become better to watch again as a consequence.

"I am not angry, I couldn't be considering we only started working together three days ago and were facing an opponent at a more advanced stage than us."

"I really appreciated the effort of all the players. We have to work on a tactical level and find the right solutions for this team."

"We certainly need to work and shake out some skeletons from last season, that is without doubt. In some situations, especially at the start, the team was very deep and too defensive. That's not what Chelsea are about."

"We need to change the mentality in that sense, but I have at my disposal a group of lads who are ready to work."

This ^^^give the manager time to rid the players of the negative mindset

OK so it wasnt great yesterday. Nothing to worry about, 3 hard days of training and little in the way of shape work.

Have to love Contes passion. You can see he knows EXACTLY what he wants, and i think that lack of identity has let us down in the past.

Hope fully most of that starting XI will be nowhere near first XI on opening day (bar willian and costa). Really hope willian leans up a bit. I know it rubbed a few guys up the wrong way, but to me he looks overweight. I love the guy, and im sure Conte will whip him into shape.

Let's be honest. No matter how fit they are, a back four of Rahman, Djilibodgi, Terry and Ivanovich would be suicidal at any stage of the season.

Nothing to do with fitness. They're just not good enough. Same with Matic and Mikel in midfield.

We turn out the same team in six months time against Rapid Vienna and we would still lose 2-0.

Willian and Costa apart that was our B-squad out there and we should hope most don't get anywhere near the first team next season. That's if the Board do their job properly this Summer.

I agree and the problem is that Rahman, Terry, Ivanovic and Cahill is part of our A-squad atm. Zouma won't be back playing until September and he will probably need even more time to settle into the team again. We need atleast 2-3 new defenders to cover up obvious weaknesses in our team.

100% agree.

Fitness aside, we fielded a very average 11.

If one good thing comes from this match thread its made me realise I will not be using them all season. Absolute clusterf**k,.

Listen, its a forum. When the side isnt doing well people want a place to vent. This is that place. You dont have to read them. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Using the same logic, everyone is equally entitled to point out when they think an opinion is stupid or unfounded.

To be honest on reflection maybe it wasn't the worst thing that we lost the game.

Conte might have learned a hell of a lot more from that game than any victory ever would.

The mental fragility is still there and that's maybe the biggest hurdle Conte has to contend with. Defensively we looked poor, even with two holding midfield players supposedly protecting the back four Vienna were given a lot of time and space on the ball in our half.

Right now I can't say I that I see either Mikel or Matic as being first choice for us, especially if we're aiming to get back into the top four.

Ivanovic showed that he's still got a brain fart a game in him and if we're going to improve defensively this season I really think he can't be a regular starter for us.

RLC. Maybe I'm missing something but I really can't see the hype, he rarely impresses himself on a game whenever I see him play. Oscar came on and the contrast in quality was almost immediately apparently. Supposedly he fancies himself as a #10 but RLC has always looked better playing deeper to me.

I know this is a rather negative post but there wasn't a lot of positive things to pick up on from the performance. Moses and Chaloba did well but then they always do in pre season and always go out on loan only to do very little.

RLC. Maybe I'm missing something but I really can't see the hype,

Don't get hype mixed up with supporting our youngsters. They are the players the club have invested in, the least we can do is get behind them and stop pretending we are over hyping them.

I'll always support him when he plays but with the plethora of talented youngsters we've had at Chelsea in the last five years I'm just left wondering what It is about RLC that the club feel warrants him being a member of the first team over the likes of Ake, Bertrand, Chaloba for example?

But it's always like that with the youngsters, they never break into the team and set the club alight, not like Rashford has done so far at manyoo, and that comes down to the club not giving them nowhere near enough playing time.

I'm glad we are giving a youngster a chance to establish himself for once but to date I'm not sure why RLC was the one that made us buck the trend. I've not seen him put in a performance as good as other youngsters who we've been quick to marginalise.

I really hope his performances improve this year and that he can finally break our appalling youth development record.

Watching a young and raw player is a bit like going to the horse races and watching a 2yr old novice, it's not so much the race result itself that matters to the owner and trainer, but how the horse moves over the ground, how it deals with older experienced horses, and how it handles racing in front of large crowds under pressure. In that context RLC has looked a little bit out of place against  some more mature and experienced opponents, but he looks a decent prospect physically and I would say for sure will only improve if given game time and the support of the manager.

RLC is by far most impressive english-born player we have right now. He has good feet and impressive frame. Not sure how much he will play this season though...

He (RLC) really needs to step up and soon. I think this is his 'make it or break it' season. So far I must say I'm far from impressed, especially at his visible lack of trying. If you're a youngster at this Chelsea side you should work harder than anyone else, both in training and in matches, because you've got more to prove. Most of the time he looks like he couldn't be bothered which seems odd to me.

Everyone seems to moan about RLC but don't mention the fact he's being played out of position. Do you really think a 6 ft 3 giant is suited to playing that number 10 role or as a shadow striker. His best performance to date has either been Liverpool or Maccabi, both of which he was playing deeper. I really don't understand why we keep playing him higher up when its obvious he isn't comfortable there and he's publicly said he isn't.

Every can agree disagree with an opinion of a member. Eg - We played well/Disagree we played terrible.

Its different when a member is moaning about the content of threads beacuse they are not all positive posts.
