July 30, 20169 yr batshuayi looks promising.. him playing second striker to costa should do it.. Our best line would look like this: ------------------ Thibaut ---------------- Aina ---- Chalobah - Zouma - Azpi ------------ Kante --- Cesc ------------- -Willian ------------------------ Hazard- ----------------- Batshuayi --------------- ------------------ Costa --------------------
July 30, 20169 yr Cuadrado will be a first choice winger this season ahead of Willian. & Hazard will be unplayable this season! Edited July 30, 20169 yr by pacquiao
July 30, 20169 yr Big improvement in the second half, we took the control over the game and moved the ball by our way. It's still pre-season, we should test as many as things we can to come at our best to the season. - Aina and Azpilicueta were our best players. - Oscar has been really poor, like always one good performance and then he is a shadow. - Loftus-Cheek can't really find himself there, striker is not for him in my opinion, but who knows, Conte is the man. - Chalobah, Batshuayi, Cuadrado all of the have changed the game for good. Chalobah with a great performance once again. - Hazard looks hungry, good to see him scoring and smiling. Looking forward, even after that performance I'm positive because we're learning from the mistakes and I'm sure Conte will get us to the best, COME ON CHELS! Aina? He was being destroyed there at the back...

July 30, 20169 yr Let's not kid ourselves, that was Madrid's benchwarmers that tore us apart in the first half and in the second half they were replaced by their youth which allowed us to get back in the game. Now I realize it's still prseaseason and some players are long way from full fitness and there were plenty of heavy legs out there due to intensive training sessions. Still, if that performance hasn't showed the board we're in dire need of spending some serious money on some quality, then we're in trouble.

July 30, 20169 yr It's great to see Chalobah shining. Sort of became the forgotten man after a couple of rubbish loan moves so it's nice to get a reminder of how talented he is.

Yep but let's also not kid ourselves, the team that plays against West Ham won't be anything like the one that started tonight. And following Aug 31 I'm sure it'll be even more changed. It wasn't great but these are the matches that Conte is going to learn about the players and squad. And it's pretty clear that there are some players who are simply not up to it out there anymore. And some of the youngsters (such as Aina) will learn a lot from matches like this.
July 30, 20169 yr We need at least two defensive players. It is, by far, our biggest weakness. By FAR

True but then we only have premier league quality to take care of next season.. we still have time to prepare for cl level
July 30, 20169 yr ^ we have problems further up the pitch i.e too reliant on Hazard & Fabregas. I would scrap getting a forward, get a LB, CB (might just have to compensate Borussia Monch. & get back Christensen) and a winger.
July 30, 20169 yr Oh and this whole Loftus-Cheek as a striker nonsense has to stop. Play him properly or don't play him at all.
July 30, 20169 yr Still not sure if cesc would work in a midfield pair Also what about cuadrado for willian? There was a lot of space left to explore as real madrid played a high line and cuadrado was taking advantage of that with his pace and that's pretty much about it.. I'd still stick with our player of the year, at least for now..

By Aug 31 it has to have changed, failure to strengthen in key areas this year would give us an immense task to get our top four place back, not just this season but for the future too.
July 30, 20169 yr I doubt it is. It's the way Conte plays Adjust for the team. Not every team can play a 4-2-4

But look at the starting line up today. Would you bet on Matic, Pedro, Traore, Oscar and RLC starting against West Ham? I certainly wouldn't. Our strongest XI just isn't ready yetIncidentally, where was Cesc ? Edited July 30, 20169 yr by bjd
July 30, 20169 yr I'm just glad Conte is thinking of using Hazard as the second striker, wich is what I have been saying for a while now. He will score alot of goals, if he can linkup with a decent target striker, because his burst of pace will be a nightmare for all these big slow PL defenders. It will be easier and cheaper to find a good left winger instead of a striker atm as well, Draxler/Mahrez etc.
July 30, 20169 yr Seems Madrid got the hair dryer treatment after their 3-1 defeat to PSG, they were up for it in the first half as reflected by the intensity of their performance. Just a shame we couldn't deal with the pressure better, I don't think 4-4-2 helped in that respect as Oscar and Matic were outnumbered on the transition (a recurring theme this pre season). 4-4-2 can work against the likes of Burnley, not City/United.
