July 25, 20169 yr This will be first ever Chelsea game. Beyond excited even if it is only preseason. Is anyone else going to the game? I'm going with a group of guys and we will be tailgating before if anyone wants to meet up. Eager to see how some of our youth will do against Madrid. I wonder if Miazga will be making an appearance due to him being American.
July 26, 20169 yr What is tailgating? I understand it's a pre-match party with lots of booze and food in the parking lot near the stadium. It's supposed to be great fun.

July 26, 20169 yr Sounds good fun, do they not have any local boozers near the grounds in America? No idea, but perhaps US stadiums are a bit outside of a city, with only a soulless mall in the vicinity, or on college grounds where any drop of alcohol is banned from being sold. I'm just guessing here
July 26, 20169 yr What is tailgating?UK - Where you drive up behind someone really close and intimidate themUS - getting hammered before a game with a bunch of fans in a car park / parking lot ! I once 'tail gated' with a few mates when I was in US, when going to a Penn State vs Ohio State..... American Football game, it was better fun than the game!
July 26, 20169 yr I understand it's a pre-match party with lots of booze and food in the parking lot near the stadium. It's supposed to be great fun. The Scottish equivalent is a few scoops of beer, wine and whatever cheap booze is on offer behind the stadium, stagger to get a overpriced burger then stumble to the stadium entrance. Everything sounds a bit better in the states..
July 26, 20169 yr Sounds good fun, do they not have any local boozers near the grounds in America? It can depend on the stadium. I live in Washington State now, and in Seattle the Football and Baseball stadiums are close enough to downtown that you can drink in the bars near the stadium and stagger over to the games. However, other stadiums, due to the sheer size of them and the space occupied by parking lots, mean that they can be on the outskirts of downtown to accommodate the game-day masses. This means that some fans show up, claim a segment of teh parking lot for themselves, set up TV's, grills, bars, smokers, etc, and basically have them and their friends set up a living room/ back yard experience right there in the car park. It is quite a spectacle, and is prevalent mainly in Football (american Football) in both the Professional and College scene. I have a fried that is a Chicago Bears season ticket holder, and he is part of a group that have, essentially, a mobile cooking station that they tow to games and cook all day long. How they even remember some of the games, I'll never know.

July 26, 20169 yr Author Yup that's exactly right. We will start "tailgating" about 5 hours before kickoff. Should be a great time.
July 27, 20169 yr If it was me I wouldnt be having too many, that you aren't in the right state of mind to appreciate the footy. A few just to relax you is enough. Much more than that spoils it, for me at least.

July 27, 20169 yr I like the look of this tailgating business.... Was just going to say the same thing..
July 27, 20169 yr imagine how much money the land for that type of car park in London would be!! This sort of thing unfortunately will never catch on. Unless we have a BBQ at the common or Battersea Park!!
July 28, 20169 yr Ann Arbor is where the great US athlete Jessie Owens, set three World records and equalled another in only 45 minutes back in 1935 ! Just thought I'd share that. Edited July 28, 20169 yr by erskblue
