Just a shame we're not looking at top quality players. There's nothing stopping us making an offer for Sanchez, but we won't.

Well it improves the squad but Chelsea need to improve the team.

I can see Sanchez going for not much more than Barkley, the big difference is Sanchez will be probably triple on what Barkley is with an insane amount of agent fees on top.

Sounds good to me and he improves the team, top players for going for free in the summer cost that.

Imagine come the Barcelona game and Kante, Drinkwater and Fabregas are injured. A midfield line up with Bakayoko and Barkley in it is really something to behold. Finally, decent replacements.

Is Barkley signed to play CM then?

With Barkley we are bidding against the likes of Spurs hence we supposedly beat them out with £15m, Sanchez may go to City for £20m odd but if there is another top team seriously interested then the bidding war could result in it being more like £30m odd, also because Sanchez is an important starting player who will actually affect your season.

Its pointless he wants to go to Man City hence the lack of interest from any other club.

He won’t be played as a winger if Conte goes for 3-5-2. The only place for him is in CM.

With 3 CM's he will be more advanced, im pretty sure Conte has more sense than to play Barkley in a midfield 2 against Barcelona.

He plays where he's needed.

His not needed to play in CM and i haven't seen him play there for Everton, so you reckon Barkley has been signed to play CM and fight with 4 other players or to play further up and compete with Hazard, William and Pedro.

He's signed off to play for Chelsea.

:face_palm: ok he has been signed as a defender.

If we have 6 defenders injured and we need a right back for 10 minutes you think he's going to say no?

No Don Antonio it strictly says on my contract that I'm not allowed to play right back :face_palm:

Of course not, but you think Barkley has been signed to compete for the a CM place with DD, Baka, Kante and Fabregas? If Barkley is the most in form player he will play in a midfield 2 with another player?

wtf are you going on about? you having a bad or something?

Oh well... At least he's young and English and will probably have good resale value if things don't work out...

Cahill, Drinkwater, Barkley (Andy Carroll :p )... England games should be a tiny bit more interesting - if that's a word you can use to describe watching England play that is.

I'm pointing out that it's a very dated thought to think he's been signed for one position and one position only.  Of course they'll have a discussion about his role in the squad, but coaches don't shoe horn players into positions and leave it at that.  He plays for the club and Conte might suggest after a few weeks that he move into a Fabregas style role or perhaps even a Pedro style role but that certainly won't be in concrete and he certainly hasn't been signed to be confined.

Just frustrating that it's clear from what Conte has said in his press conference Barkley isn't a player he asked for. Could we be shocked if at the end of the season he wants to leave?

In regards to actually getting Barkley. Are we going to get Ross "Willian" Barkley who makes the wrong decisions in the final third or Ross "Hazard" Barkley who makes the right ones?

I think he can play a little further up, not quite what Hazard does, but behind Morata in an attacking role.

Might sound a bit mad here but I'm sure we produced better English talent when this homegrown quota wasn't a thing

We have only really produced John Terry that's went to the top in the past 10-15 years.

During the home grown stuff we have guys like Chabolah and co moving for decent money.

Our youth quality has significantly increased since those times but of course so has our ambitions and standards so it's hard to get these boys into our side when the fans basically demand a world class player in every position.

Probably Ross "Sturridge" Barkley who is always injured.
