Sergi Roberto

whispers that barca are going to sell him because he's not happy with being essentially replaced by paulinho. we are interested, along with utd, milan and juve. if we could get his signature it would be a great coup considering who else wants him. the fee is rumoured to be 40m euros.

If Ox and him are available at the same time and costs almost the same, who would you pick?

I've heard he wants to go too

He's playing now for Barcelona, and he's playing pretty well too, he just scored.

If we are ok with paying £30m for Chamberlain, then i would rather we spend that little bit extra on this guy. Sergi Roberto is 10x the football Chamberlain is.

For me I'd rather get Ox, he's English, 23 and can play a lot of positions, its also great for marketing and PR for the club and would massively weaken Arsenal.

Sergi Roberto can play multiple positions too, the difference is that he's actually good in those positions. Oxlade-Chamberlain is bang average no matter where he plays. He probably has one or two good games a season. I also couldn't give a damn about nationality either. You should never be paying so much for a player just because of their nationality. I would much rather see us promote youth players than waste so much money on average English players.

Yeah I see both as filling similar roles with Roberto probably being the better player and is definitely the better CM, but for me the Ox is a better winger and will be a better WB eventually. I also think that the Ox has shown a lot of potential that Arsene just doesn't know how to use it.

That said I would rather see Tomori at RWB and Chalobah used a CM but we don't seem to be want to do that.

This is a good signing decent cover in several positions we need a signing like this. Based on what we saw today, Hazard and Perdo back, Bakayoko fully fit, Morata gets his stride and we are a very good team, for me it's about depth right now as a realistic target.

Ud apparently also bidding for him. Do they actually have their own scouting team or just look at who we're linked with??

Emenalo works for both

Would be such an underwhelming signing.

Also I have to ask why would Roberto move from Barca bench to Chelsea bench? He will be our 4th choice CM and hopefully 3rd choice RWB.

His defending is Mehhh at best.

But if Conte wants him, I am fine. Just hope he proves me wrong again (like Alonso, Luiz)

Have you seen him play? If he can get into the Barcelona starting 11, I'm sure he'll be able to perform the role Conte requires of him.

All for this, he would supply healthy competition in the midfield enabling consistent rotation, this is what we need, not somebody worse than our current options just to sit on the bench.

I have seen him play a LOT of times mate.

Delefoue (sp?) is starting for Barca at the moment, does not mean he is good enough for us. If anything, not even close. The only reason he got into the barca 11, is because there was not a good enough RB in the barca squad.

That french former Everton player is only playing because Barca haven't signed a replacement yet.
Roberto has been in the starting 11 for awhile and while he isn't in his normal CM role, still doesn't discredit the quality he brings.
He may not be world class but he's still a good signing that would add depth, which is the point I'm trying to make.

Fabregas, Bakayoko and Kante can all get into the starting 11 of the current Barcelona team.

The same Fabregas who Barca cast out?

Many on here were complaining about Chelsea's transfer window and lack of squad depth, but Barcelona IMO are in a worse situation than Chelsea, with less than 2 weeks left of the window.

"I played in my favoured midfield position. I started against Real Madrid and the coach has given me confidence. I've scored today and I want to be important."

"In pre-season I wasn't starting, but now in the official matches I am playing more," Roberto said. "I want to continue here and continue like this."

So who was Barca's replacement for Dani Alves? Roberto has been played as a makeshift RB where he looks bang average. Also, Barca just signed Paulinho. A spurs FLOP. Being/playing for Barca is hardly a criteria for good/bad a player is.

Maybe he might turn out to be a good signing. But I have my doubts. Like I said in my first post, IF conte wants him, then I am all in, but I surely have my doubts over his quality and use.

Barca's transfer policy this summer was the worst of all superclubs but they only really have to play Messi into form to get into the title race again.

Not sure if you saw the 2 legs of the Super Cup (?) against Madrid. They look like they have fallen so far behind Madrid, and appear to be in disarray.

I did but aside from Real and Atletico, other clubs in La Liga usually gives Barca enough space to win. Barca will probably be 2nd or 3rd this season, Madrid is currently at their peak.
