@Krc-fan Did you see this film?

Like I was saying on the music thread, for me the ending was so depressing and such a waste of a good life.

I couldn't understand why he had not researched how to survive in Alaska?

I forget now about his parents, yet it felt in film he was running away from them or their expectations.

 

One film I saw in early 2000's was in black and white and I think it might have been Greek.

It starts off in a coastal community with a 'Greek' builder going to collect payment for work only to find the owner has gone yet left an entrance ticket to some event.

He decides to go and this is to an underground event and an hour of an emotional rollercoaster.

I thought it was called something like Tsatzikis which to me sounds like a Mediterranean sauce you would have in a baguette.

If anyone knows the correct name of the film let me know as I would like to see it again.

 

 

Wrecked is another movie which I think is a great watch.

Never heard of it, surprisingly with Adrian Brody in the lead, though it looks interesting:

Thought I'd resurrect this thread to ask if anyone's seen the Shape of Water?  Just got back from seeing it and a bit bemused by it really.  I enjoyed it but it was very silly and weird - a bit like a 50s B movie monster film but with lots of money and special effects.  All a bit surreal.  But Best Picture? I haven't seen the others but if that's the best film of the last year, I'd be surprised.

No not yet, but knowing it is a Guillermo del Toro film I try and get to see it soon. Certainly from the trailers looks a bizarre movie.

I didn't know where to post this but it's been on my mind for a little while.

The Last Jedi is a very good children's film that got bad criticisms because losers were upset that it was more focused on constructing a good narrative then it was proving their pathetic fan theories right and right wing man children hijacked the wave of discontent because they hate any films with a female lead. 90% of criticisms are bullsh*t and most would actually make a worse movie beca use the people critiquing are blinded by their nerd like rage over what amounts to a children's film.

Or it was simply not good and calling people losers/manchildren/"rightwing"(lol) is pathetic? Disney is fine without this zealot defence of a crap movie.

The Last Jedi is a bad film.

In the context of the Star Wars cannon? It’s atrocious and I’m amazed that Rian Johnson was given the freedom to make something so far removed from Abrams’ Force Awakens.

I still haven't seen it, can't seem to bring myself to watch it.

It's not bad but it's certainly very meh. Johnson threw everything Star Wars fan-boys know and love about the franchise out of the window and made it his own...which, wasn't the cleverest thing to do in hindsight.

There are some really stupid bits in it and poor John Boyega, who was so terrific on TFA, had little to do apart from a side quest to Las Vegas. Johnson reinterprets what the Force means/what it can do which made one moment in particular seem f**king stupid. That said, there are a couple of cool scenes.

But give me Empire, Force Awakens or Rogue One instead any day. Far superior films. 

That's the problem with changing directors- tone and nuance shift so dramatically from film to film and the outcome isn't always good. For example, Bond- Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. Are you telling me that if they'd retained Martin Campbell to direct Quantum too, it would have turned out like it did? No. Instead Marc Forster took the reigns and it was just a mess.

Am I really seeing grown men arguing over a kid's film?

What is the general analytical consensus on the underlying psycho-sexual themes in "The little Mermaid"?  How close to the Illuminatti zeitgeist if "Thomas the Tank Engine"?  Who gives a f**k about Doctor Who?

It's not a film only for kids, and people calling it that is their last ditch effort to deflect criticism from it's really dumb points.

For example the phantom menace, Jar Jar is for kids. Scenes about intergalactic trade politics is not for kids.

In episode 3 we watch a man get his limbs cut off and be left to die burning in lava. Kids love that.

It's a movie with stuff for kids. Its not a kids movie.

Also its PG-13 not toddler level Yorkleyblue :P

That sounds like exactly the sort if thing I'd have enjoyed as kid.

I watched Prevenge on a flight recently. It's basically about a pregnant woman who's unborn child makes her kill lots of people to somehow avenge the death of her boyfriend/baby's father. It's no classic but was enjoyable enough and quite funny in places.

To return to the fray on kids' films or not kids' films, I am genuinely bemused by any adult who tells me he has read all the Harry Potter books and loves them. I usually answer very politely, with a phrase like "Oh, that's nice." or " Mmm, lovely!" I can't get my head round why an adult would want to do that, when there are so many brilliant books for adults around.

There’s so much bad writing in it.

Never in 8 previous films had the concept of the ships running low on fuel been an issue and now suddenly it’s affecting and entire fleet?

Suddenly new force abilities are springing up left right and centre. Nearly all the groundwork layed in Force Awakens is ignored, that Luke left a map to find him is completely ignored in favour of cringeworthy slapstick humour.

Changing directors during a trilogy is just bemusing. The tone is all over the place and it’s resulted in something nothing short of a complete train wreck.
