It's more than that. The goal posts have moved. Roman is a relative pauper compared to a number of our competitors. PSG are owned by an oil rich nation. We can't compete with them financially. We need to get smarter and faster in our transfer dealings but we show no signs of learning that lesson. United and Mourinho have shown us how it should be done in this transfer window.

Paupers?? We smashed our record and got Morata for 70M. got baka for 40 and drinkwater for 35M. I dont think we are paupers , we are just not gifting away money like before.

The Board could have bought both Zappacosta and Oxlade-Chamberlain - it need not be a binary decision.  The issue is trying to convince Oxlade-Chamberlain to join the club  and if the suggested reason that he rejected Chelsea because he didn't want to play at right back  then it is a major issue as the club left it so late and had no idea of such a prerequisite.

Llorente was a preferred choice of Conte (I believe Zappacosta is too) and just with that, I support this signing although if it was me, I would prefer a younger option.  Abraham is out on loan and Llorente is a short-term option and has bags of experience while offering a different option in being a target man so what's the problem?  As Marina has been conducting transfer business in this way ever since she joined the club, I very much doubt any reviews, post mortems, whatever you want to call it are being done except for probably pounds and pence.

I wouldn't call this a successful window as a marque player (Sandro), no backup striker of Conte's  choice and the points you mentioned above.  It's just a tad disappointing and could be far better.

I dont undrstand why you beleive everything the media says. Even Barkley just came out and said he didnt have a medical at chelsea. The fact is the board dont feel the need to reply to the fake media gist. Just because Conte said he liked llorente last season doesnt mean we actually bid for him. The only person that rejected us is Chamberlain and its obvious he was being bought to play wingback which he doesnt like.

I also dont get what you mean by marquee plAYER. We bought Torres for 50M and Sheva for 30M. ( Meant to be Marquee players) and they flopped. i dont even think Sandro is better than Alonso.

Did he supposedly join the dippers because they would play him in central midfield.  England played him wide wide with no complaints. Can't see him moving Henderson or Can out of their positions.

Yes he went to Liverpool because he wanted to play in centre mid and not wide for us. There's more of a chance of him playing centre mid for us tbh, don't know who he will play ahead of at Liverpool.

Just another James Milner to me. Almost exactly the same issues, he'll be their backup RB or LB, sitting on the bench next to Milner.

Prime James Milner was a much better player then Ox will ever be. Severly underrated imo

I agree. Out of that Aston Villa team, I thought Milner had the highest potential to succeed

Milner, did not have any obvious strengths yet had a good football brain in him, good worker, willing to do various roles and without the bag ego some of the top players appear to have.

Alli worries me, thinks too much of himself and is liable to get a red, like Beckham against Simeone and Rooney's anger in the early WC. I wouldn't complain if he was dropped though the question would be who else can we play?
