Yep, forget the fantastic performance against Spurs and the good first half. Lets judge him on the second half when the entire team crumbled.

Glad we agree.

I didn't see him last night, but you have to stop with this hyperbole about his performance against the Spuds.  He was OK, a little bit better than adequate, but not anywhere near enough for your organ to swell in the way it does, even with your self-professed man-love for his dashing charm and Village People designer stubble.

I like Emerson but I think he was always brought in a squad player and it shows. He never came close to ousting Alonso last season, but this year Alonso's form has suffered in the new system. As we saw yesterday Emerson has limitations too. If we are going to continue with this system we will probably need to consider moving on one of Alonso/Emerson and finding a better option as the starter.

No, i never said that.

No, I know you didn't, but WE can only ever judge a player on how they perform.  Like I said, I didn't see last night's game so am relying on what people say.  When he was a bit pants in previous matches, the excuse was that he wasn't playing with the proper first team.  As I assume we had most of our first team playing last night,  that obviously doesn't apply.

To be honest, I thought that the best I've seen him play for us was when he came on as a sub playing just in front of Alonso on the left of midfield, can't remember who against.  I think  that basically, he's not a very good defender, and we already have Luiz performing that role for us.

My point is its not easy for a player who has hardly played to come in and set the world alight when the team isn't doing well, confidence is down and we lose 4-0 in a game where nobody played well. Im hoping he gets a good run of games now in the league so we can properly judge him. He's been here a year now and he's not been really tested, so because of that nobody is 100% certain on him yet. He hasn't looked great in defence but neither does Alonso to be fair.

I think if we are to continue playing this system we need two full backs. Our lack of width and good delivery from wide is killing us.

He was brilliant. Best LB performance we've seen under Sarri. Should've had two assists if our strikers weren't duds either.

I don't think we are talking about the same player, or the same match or something.  I do remember one hit and hope "lump it up to the tall bloke" cross towards the end that Giroud managed to head 15 yards wide from 3 yards out, but nothing amazing or memorable other than that.

Beating the opposition full back and actually over lapping for Hazard.

So a pin point ball into the striker is now just a lucky hit and hope to fit your narrative. Got it. If only Willian, Azpi and Alonso could do a few hit and hopes and actually beat the first man.

Overlapping Hazard does nothing by itself, there needs to be some sort of further action subsequent to that.  He did get by a fullback a couple of times and but I think he managed to put the ball right across to the right wing position or into the crowd on both ocassions.

No, a pin-point cross into a striker is a wonderful thing.  Emerson's wasn't that, but you keep  on.  I'm not actually arguing that Alonso is a great deal better, but I do disagree that Emerson is as good as you like to think he is.

1:50 - beats his man a floats a ball into the striker.

2:15 - dribbles through three men and wins a corner

2:36 - another good ball into the box and beats the first man

2:42 - brings the ball out from the back, overlaps well and should have won a free kick for the foul.

3:18 - another good burst forward, gets height on the ball but not enough to beat the first man this time.

3:33 - another good ball, should have been his first assist of the game.

3:42 - The move of the game. Beats his man with ease, looks up and picks out his man. Perfect delivery. Should be assist number 2.

He's not the perfect full back, but he's the best we've got and had a bloody good game against Spurs.

And how many goals and assists did all of that Youtube trawling show he created?  After all, that appears to  be your player judgement tool of choice

And how much of his immense defensive skills does it show?

And where is the Youtube of all his highlights in the Europa League matches?

Let me get this straight. After 9 games or so with this false 9 nonesense Sarri finally starts with a striker again in the cup semifinal where the opponent misses 3 of their most important players and you dismiss all this and can only see a great performance from Emerson. Don´t get me wrong he had a good game but the other players would have benefited in previouses matches too if Sarri had started with a Striker earlier. Now he had a bad game and you said we can´t judge him on that because the overall performance of the team was not good.
I just know if Alonso would have started you would be on a rant on how sh*t he is.

You were saying he rarely beat his man and put in poor crosses all game. The video is evidence to show that's not true. Go watch the full games if you need further convincing. He was good in the Europa league matches too. Certainly wasn't making any mistakes.

Wait.. what am i dismissing? What does Harry Kane missing have anything to do with Emerson putting good crosses into the box and making Aurier look invisible? No correlation at all.

Sarri was playing with a striker for October and November and Alonso still struggled to create anything at all.

He had a bad half, not a bad game. In fact, his first half was good. His performance went the same way as everyone else in the team after the first goal though.

No, I didn't say that at all.  And he wasn't that good in the Europa matches either.  And it was you who brought a selective Youtube video along as supportive evidence for your point.

My mistake, you said he could beat his man THEN put in sh*t balls. As that video showed, he's a very good crosser.

Show me him not being good in Europa matches? He averages a 7.57 rating in Europa league matches. https://www.whoscored.com/Players/101955/Show/Emerson

For comparison, hazard averages 7.53 in all comps for Chelsea this year. But YB says he wasn't very good so we should believe him?
