Palace's best player is hardly a deal sealer (and im not convinced he's even that, even at that level he's not trusted in a two man midfield), if we wanted to sign whoever say Brighton's best player is or Burnley's this site would be full of comments claiming we were in decline and have no ambition anymore just to put it in perspective.  Even in that England match he was great in he slowed down after an hour then looked completely wiped out vs Brazil a few days later.

Mount on the other hand looks more the allround package even now. His passing is excellent and he's got an incredible knack of knowing when the right moments to pass, shoot and retain possession are, and while he will never be a defensive collosal he's actually not bad in that respect (certainly compared to the level you usually associate with his type of player anyway). If hypothetically both got brought into the squad next season and told to fight it out i personally believe Mount would win the battle hands down.

Lets say that Conte stays here next season, and we are still playing a 3-4-3, where does Mount fit in that scheme? I dont personally see mount sloting in anywhere, because this formation doesnt suit his strenghts at all, whereas RLC looks like a more natural fit in midfield for the role that is expected in this formation.

If conte leaves, i hope Mount is given a proper chance during pre season and hopefully he impresses, but RLC i want back next season regardless of the manager, because i feel like he is a little more versatile than Mount, and is more acostumed and ready to the english game. If Conte is here, i would like to see Mount loaned to the bundesliga, to Frankfurt or Gladbach

That depends, Ruben is still 22 and this has been the first season, where he’s been trusted to play on a regular basis. I wouldn’t begrudge us going for a similar, promising player at Brighton/Burnley.

Yea, fair point, he did look knackered against Brazil. That is the concern with him, he does need to work on his fitness and he is too injury prone, but possibly down to lack of consistent game time, hope he can improve this.

Possibly, I included both in my squad, would be interesting to see who would come out on top. I’m not willing to give up on Loftus Cheek, personally, I think he showed signs this season of being a top player. I think he would have gotten better, as the season progressed, hope he gets back to his best post injury.

Loftus Cheek's fitness reminds me of the early days of Andy Murray in tennis, who had loads of talent but was always flagging in the 4th and 5th set of matches. I'd like to hope RLC recognises his weakness here and does everything he can  a la Murray to turn it into a strength. Sadly I think Murray was a mental giant in that regard for sheer bloody mindedness to improve his stamina, and his capacity for the hard work to get there, whereas RLC "doesn't have it". If he did, surely he'd have sorted it in the last 4 years ?

We have  a few decent central midfielders on loan ... anyone like to see them back for a chance with us ? I'm thinking Van Ginkel and Pasalic here ... who are both "box to box", can score goals and are 6 foot plus to add that necessary physical presence alongside Kante.

I'd certainly also be looking to give A LOT of opportunities to Ampadu, Hudson-Odoi and Mount next year. Would like to see what Sterling can do at right wingback as well. Castillo another youth player who has potential, although he has Alonso and Palmieri for competition on his side of course.

I would actually say Mount's more suited to that formation than Ruben.

Ruben doesn't work in a midfield two (it's why Roy puts him on the wing and Conte tried to shoehorn him up front) and he doesn't have the end product to play behind the striker. Mount however could work in the 2, especially with Kante and he's got enough end product about him to play further up aswell.

Top notch on the ball but has cost us plenty of mistakes with the ball at his feet.

Watch Rudiger & Christensen in the Barcelona game and tell me who was more confident on the ball and who was making forward runs with the ball at his feet. It's not even about being a central defender, central defenders get more cover, Rudiger looks awkward but he plays perfect passes. I wasn't fussed on Rudiger at the start because when I watched him he looked awkward on the ball, but it doesn't mean anything, it's the way he passes, he's lanky like Matic, he still plays the perfect ball and is good going forward with it.

Its weird as i've seen a lot of people call out Zouma for being poor on the ball on this forum but he's in the same category as Rudiger for me. He can spray a ball Gerrard-esque across the pitch easily but just looks awkward when doing it so people say he can't pass. Agree about Rudiger being more than comfortable with the ball btw just think Christensen is as good imo.

I understand you clearly like Mount but its weird you write RLC off because 'Palace's best player means nothing' but Mount is clearly ready when he's been performing okay in a much worse team in a much worse league?

Mount needs to prove himself at a proper footballing standard first imo. Piazon, Traore and Baker all looked great at Vitesse at some point.

We'll agree to disagree on this then, I'm not a fan of Christensen passing it out from the back, but I'm a fan of pretty much everything else he does on the pitch.

Well thats not what im doing, i have seen him at various levels since he was 16 and hold the exact same doubts then i do now. And if he is Palace's best player, why is Roy playing him out of position to hide his weakness?

Out of those 3 players you mentioned the only one who you could argue had a similar level of infulence at Vittese is Traore, he is head and shoulders above what the other two produced.

Mount is a decent prospect at the moment but nothing else. The Dutch division he is playing in is at best average. Loftus-Cheek shot onto the scence and produced some encouraging displays, but at Palace hasn't done anything to suggest he'll be a anywhere near ready to play in the Chelsea XI. If Mount continues his progression in another league, I.e. The Championship, then hopefully he'll continue to grow and make a name for Himself in the first team. He is the player I hold most hope for. Loftus-Cheek not so much.

Piazon absolutely ruled the first half of the '13 season at Vitesse. Smashed about 10 goals in before xmas then the team gave up and fell out of the European places. Was a lot of rumours of it being on purpose for some dodgy reasons back then. I'm sure Baker lead them to their first cup in 30 odd years last year too?

As for RLC being played out of position, imagine how good he'd be in his natural position. I think in a three man midfield he'd dominate imo.

You close personal friends with Roy?  You and him talk about this all the time and he tells you the innermost details of his match planning?  If not, how do you know the reason RLC is played where he is to "hide his weakness"?  Seems to me it would make more sense for Roy just to leave him out.

yorkeyblue on point. Either a few folk on here are ex coaches of professional clubs or they think by coming out with a load spiel we'll believe them. Ain't nobody on here got a clue why Loftus-Cheek plays where he plays. Some potentially great salesmen on here.

We will find out in a few years time i guess. My personal prediction is Mount will be a Chelsea player and RLC will be playing at a similar level he is now. I would love to be wrong (with half the prediction) so like i said lets see.

I thought all the squads learn the first team way of playing so they can progress and slot in if required.

They do now. Not the case before Conte arrived which seems silly looking back. Just showed you how shortsighted Jose was.
