My worry is that he is increasingly having lengthy spells out of the team due to various injuries. He missed 16 league games in 19/20 season, 8 last season and 9 so far this season (33 league games missed in the last two and a half seasons). Of the 62 league appearances he made during that period 12 have been as a substitute meaning he's started 40 league matches in two and a half seasons. Definitly things to take into consideration. It's an issue the club will have to face this summer no matter what so it will be interesting to see what happens. Because his contract runs out in 2023. Pair that with a club that's rather desperate to get the total wage-bill down, over 30 policy and trying to build for the future and I would not be too surprised if we accepted an offer for Kante if it was deemed good enough for the club. But we'd need to bring in someone like Rice to replace him if he did leave.

Problem is they and the other Italian sides know one year later they can get him for free. I doubt any of them would pay a decent fee, more likely 20mill euro or less, when a year later he is free. 3 hours ago, ForeverCarefree said: or Kante go for a decent fee and bringing in someone like Declan Rice I think it'sa good move. Mane and Salah have been the best pair of wingers in the league for a number of years yet before they've even hit 30 Klopp/the club are eyeing up long term successors (Diaz and Jota with Carvalho likely following).

Do we even need to sign someone to cover for/replace Kante? Could not Mason or Connor be that player?

Either way planning ahead for when the time comes isn't as outrageous as some are trying to portray it as. For me the main reason Fergie kept sustaining his success is because he had plans ready to eventually replace all his players even when they were still at their peak (case in point DDG scouted and ready for when VDS called it quits) and annoyingly Liverpool now are appearing equally on the ball.

It's not easy to find players like Jorginho and Kante, the profiles of the next key players will be different. Touchmeni looks like the most natural replacement for Kante to me while Gallagher and Mount look similar to each other, Rice looks the most suitable to play at the Jorginho position though with weaker passing skills but better pace.

Those rumours are saying he feels he has completed his mission at Chelsea with the Europa league and CL victories. We are said to be considering whether to let him leave for free and keep him one more season or get some sort of fee for him this summer. What, you really want to leave us @Gol15? I thought you liked it here!

True we never replaced Zola with a new Zola, Terry with a new Terry, Lamps with a new lamps etc. I would be shocked if we spent 230mill odd on 3 players though.

Well it does sound impossible given that it's been a long time since we spent that much, with that said we are ambitious enough to reduce that number with the sales of some players to maybe even half of that amount. Specially if we sell Jorginho, Kante, Werner and Pulisic...

February 4, 20223 yr If Jorginho leaves, would you see Gilmour playing next to Rice/Tchoumeni and Gallagher as our near future midfield? I think it would be an interesting midfield 3, Rice giving defensive cover, Billy helping bringing out the ball from our half similar to Kova-Jorgi pair, and with a vision and range of passes 'a la' Cesc, and Gallagher playing further up driving the ball to the opponent box and creating goal chances similar to Lamps. Obviously Kova will still be here to play a role, and hopefully Kante, who can't play every game now a days.

Kante could get a large fee but I don't think we will nor should sell him unless he makes it clear he is off on a free in 2023 and would like to leave beforehand if possible.

Juventus paid 75m euros for a 21 year old Vlahovic this January alone just because Chiesa got injured and they are struggling when it comes to scoring goals. I'm sure Marina can pull off a 30-40m sale of Jorginho if Juve isn't happy with Arthur or Rabiot and same for Werner, his pace alone is a 30m sale. Gilmour, Gallagher, Kovacic, Mount + Tchouameni/Rice is a crazy good rebuild if we sell Jorginho and Kante in the summer.

February 4, 20223 yr Obviously I wouldn’t want him to go but I wouldn’t begrudge him a move back to Italy, as much as some people won’t want to admit he’s been a key part of a very successful period for our club. Not sure what we’d be able to get for him with 1 year left on his deal though but can’t imagine it’d be less than £30m.

I kinda agree that it will be difficult to move Jorgi for good money unless we are just lucky (Sarri wanted him) Jorgi is a system specific player, you can't see him going to many places. A lot of people are talking about juve but I am not sure Allegri want Jorgi.

On paper you wouldn't have expected a manager like Mancini (who often played three traditional DM's at the same time at City) to find a spot for him but he did. With the way football is heading stylistically a lot of teams with have room for a player like him, I just hope we can replace him with a similar profile of player if he does leave (unless Gilmour suddenly regains his March 2020 self).

I would avoid getting players from Serie A right now since their level dropped a bit but even before I was aware of that Sandro Tonali caught my eye. He is a mix of Pirlo and De Rossi due to his free kick and passing ability + overall defensive and transition qualities and as a 21 year old he's much more bulky and has better pace than Jorginho. Basically Tonali is one of those players that might have a higher peak than Rice, like Tchouameni but I can totally see the club overpaying for Rice instead of going for a more modern player like Tonali/Tchouameni.
