April 17, 20197 yr I keep seeing us being linked with him over the last few weeks so thought it was worth starting a thread. Being linked with Philippe Coutinho who Barca apparently are looking to sell in the summer after he's failed to live up to their expectations following his move from Liverpool. Transfer fee would be in the region of an eye watering £100m which would basically be whatever we would be getting from Real Madrid should Hazard go there. Not sure where he would fit into Sarri's system? Perhaps in the attacking midfield spot, though what that would mean for Barkley and RLC is anyone's guess. It's a lot of money for a player that doesn't really solve any of the problems we're having... If we're looking to drop big money on a player I'd rather we were sniffing around a quality centre forward. Someone like Timmo Werner who is apparently set to leave RB Leipzig at the end of this season.

April 17, 20197 yr Somebody said it on here a few years ago, Coutinho is a highlights player. He scores the odd screamer now and again, but it's the only thing I would say he's great at. Everything else he is just okay at.
April 17, 20197 yr If we are going to fork out £100m+ on a player, I certainly hope it isn’t Coutinho. He’s good but we would be better off signing SMS or Fernandes IF we are going to spend that much money on an attacking midfielder.

We've got RLC, if we're throwing £100m at someone it needs to be a winger/striker

Although I would take Joao Felix as the 10 ahead of coutinho, SMS, or Fernandes.

There are more pressing needs, for sure.
April 20, 20197 yr I like him, wouldn't play him out wide though doesn't suit him. Im a midfield three though he would be good, scores goals and is creative, something we have lacked this season.
April 11, 20206 yr Here some highlights of him for Bayern this season may give you an insight on his game and how he plays?
April 14, 20206 yr @kiwi1691 thought that was all pretty accurate. For me I'd be okay with Coutinho being signed if the price was okay. I always liked him at Liverpool and his shooting from outside the box is superb. But I'd agree that Kia is probably pushing him onto us rather than us looking at him.

I would like to see his shot to goal ratio, I be its very low as I remember him missing a hell of a lot of shots from distance.

Oh yeah he missed some too. By their nature they are low percentage. Ziyech will be the same with his shooting. I do remember one in Mourinho's last year at the Bridge that was a cracker and turned the game. For me again it depends on price. If we get him for half of the price of Sancho that would probably be a good deal in my view. Certainly allow us to invest in our defence which is a much bigger issue in my view.
April 14, 20206 yr No thank you. Too much evidence that he is a super-skilled player but gives his best 40% of the time. Frank especially values workrate, consistency and humility.

Frank especially values workrate, consistency and humility. I do think that is a challenge. Always thought he gave good effort at Liverpool though? I do agree that many Brazilian players have a tendency to play for themselves rather than for the team. I wouldn't be keen to build too many of them like we had when Oscar, Luiz, Costa, Willian and Kenedy were all here.
April 15, 20206 yr I always loved players who are better than they "should" be because they just worked hard. Players who have brilliant genes who are just plain lazy or don't have the desire put me off as well. Coutinho might be a bit of that. He can score a worldie though. Some South-American players have done enough for themselves getting a huge deal and making life for their family better. That shows in the latter part of their careers many times. The relentless work stops and the desire fades. They come from a different place than many players from better backgrounds in Europe for example.Oscar, Hulk, Tevez, Sancez, Robinho spring to mind... I have no problem with it but not sure if I want to invest in one of them.
April 15, 20206 yr To let Kante go for Countinho would be a very bad deal for us, and very good for them.
