The Weakest Link

Ferreira was made a mickey so many times on the right tonight and i wonder why Jose insists on having him.

Zenden had a field day and it was unlucky that Liverpool could not capitalise.

I hope he does not play ( use Bouhlahrouz or Diarra) in the 2nd leg. Great that it is still 1-0 and even 2-1 defeat

at Anfield will put us through. We just need a goal at Anfield. 128.gif

Ferreira was made a mickey???

Zenden had a field day ?????????????????????????????

No idea what game you were watching. Zenden did nothing throughout and Ferreira was solid throughout.

Ferreira was fine. He had a few dodgey moments on the weekend against Newcastle, but nothing got past him tonight. Zenden did nothing, other deliver a few bad crosses.

I wouldn't be suprised if Essien plays Right Back at anfield, but that wouldn't be because PF struggled tonight. More a case of Essien must play, but our midfield excelled and Ballack will be coming back as well. Essien must play somewhere.

Zenden was ordinary however even he got past Ferriera a few times and put in a number of crosses unchallenged, made me think had Risse been playing at a left winger, we could have been is deep s**. I do belive either Diarra or Essien will play in the return leg, fortunately there was no damage done last night..

I thought Paulo had a decent game, especially considering he hasn't played enough to be at 100%. You can't expect a player that plays that irregularly to be at top form.

Zenden didn't really provide anything for Liverpool, and Paulo had some excellent moments. Sure he made mistakes, but I definitely wouldn't say he had a horrible game.

And whomever gave me a hard time about my comment that Ferreira is our best throw-in specialist, I hope that person

watches this game over and over again, and appreciates Ferreira's excellent skill at throw-ins (a lost art, in my opinion).

You might be right there but one who really knows how to take a throw-in is Geremi. I don't know about Ferreira but I doubt anyone on the team can throw the ball as long as Geremi. Great player to have if there's a throw-in not far from the opponents goal area. A long throw and players like Drogba, JT and Ballack rising up in the air is quite nice icon_wink.gif

Zenden had a field day

Two statements that prove either:

a - you didnt watch the game

or

b - you clearly dont know anythng about football

Unlike some I haven't been Paulo's greatest supporter & the 2 Paulo camps positions have been oft documented on here for a while. But credit where it's due - Paulo was pretty effective last night & 2 games in 4 days have, imo, done his confidence wonders. True it is is that Benitez's selection of Bolo was, as it turned out, a major miscalculation but that is no criticism of Paulo - after all you can only play against your opposing number whoever it may be. Bet ya Essien is back for Anfield though as I thought Maka had a blinder last night and worked pretty well with Mikel. Benitez was a fool not playing Sisoko - let's hope he makes the same mistake again next week.

Big mistake by Beni the Ball by playing Zenden for 90 minutes - also served to keep Riise from being a threat - dont know why he didnt bring ASBO on sooner - thanks Mr Pilsbury

I would say it was a 50/50 battle.

Zenden won some - with no visible effects, and Paulo won some.

I wouldn't say he had a Mickey nor a brilliant performance. His form - considering his absence - is decent.

Get him playing day in day out and he can get back to his best.

P.S. Our weakest link - I'm sorry to say - was Shevchenko. icon_sad.gif

I agree that Geremi takes a nice LONG throw-in, but PF is good with short to medium throw-ins.

I'm not joking that it is not easy to do -- kind of like a good through ball, it has to be accurate WITH THE PROPER WEIGHT.

No one else in our team (including JT) does it very well.

Paulo played okay.

Time after time he managed to block Zenden's crosses, which as a full back, is your number 1 priority.

Zenden beat him twice maybe? Once in each half?

I thought he did fine, but i was bewildered as to why Benitez didnt start with Gonzalez or Pennant instead?

They would have caused far greater problems for him.

I have to say that Paulo worries me a lot. I get to see him at first hand in the first half and he always looks dodgy. Yesterday Zenden had a huge amount of space and we were fortunate that he doesn't have much pace. If that had been Ronaldo then we would have been in serious trouble. I'm not saying that he does nothing well, but I always feel we are vulnerable. Diarra can look vulnerable too on occassion, but at least he gives us something extra on the ball and going forward.
