Your worst cfc defeat

Featured Replies

Sometime in the mid 1980s league division two , Rotherham United 6 Chelsea 0 .

A packed away end ,which was the norm for us even in div2 ,no trouble off the pitch for a change SYP ?
( South Yorkshire Police ) ,but the trouble was on the pitch ffs as we got mullered that game .

Ronnie bastard Moore and some old looking gange up front  for Rotherham who looked like he was in his 40s with a

numbskull type of mullet or half a mullet .

pete borota in goal for cfc ,and did we miss a penalty in that game aswell ?

iam sure that in the home game against Rotherham that term ,they dicked us 0-4 or 1-4 at the bridge ?

so of all the bad defeats cfc have had over the years ,this one alone I can’t shake for obvious reasons since Rotherham is

the next town to me ,and fcuk me did Yorkshire television news station ride that 6-0 drubbing by Rotherham only because they mullered

a team from the smoke as the north/south divide was much much more bigger back then ,just look at how the home crowds attendance allways

went up when likes of chelsea was in town at gaffs like Rotherham,Oldham,Bolton, grimsby,Huddersfield,Barnsley etc etc .

"Highlights" and an astonishing story about Borota in this thread:

My 'watching Chelsea lose 6-0 away' story was a few years earlier. We were battling relegation and had a) just re-signed Peter Osgood b) recently appointed Danny Blanchflower as manager, who had c) installed Sitton and Nutton as our centre-backs and d) dropped Osgood and picked Trevor Aylott in his place, even though he hadn't scored for about 18 months.

Our opponents were Clough's Notts Forest who were Div 1 champions and on the way to becoming Champions of Europe.

It was a midweek game, it absolutely pissed it down and we were utterly destroyed (Trevor Francis and Martin O'Neill were on fire) , but our fans were so loud that the home fans actually applauded us that night. We knew we were going down and were still at risk of folding due to our financial state, so it was a truly dismal time to be a Chelsea fan.

programme cover for Scarborough v Chelsea, Wednesday, 4th Oct 1989

Scarborough away on 4th Oct 1989.   Littlewoods Cup Round 2 and this was the Second Leg.

The 1-1 at the Bridge draw in the 1st leg was bad enough.

However, it got worse !

We were 2-0 up and lost 3 - 2 !!

The one (two) that hurt the most.

Going out to the Dippers in Champions League 2nd Leg at Anfield in 2005 and the 2008 Champions League Final defeat by Man Utd.

I think he's talking about having a really bad day rather than a disappointing result. 40 years more or less to the day losing 1-0 to Wigan after beating Newcastle 4-0 two days previous we were brilliant on the Saturday absolutely wretched on the Monday.  I was all bertie big bollocks at school on Monday to getting the piss taken out of me everywhere my local estate, school and the football team I played for. I've still got the programme for the Wigan game I'll post it if I have it actually says Chelsea vs Northwich Victoria or Wigan.

Cheers, I genuinely wasn't sure.

Getting knocked out of Cups was always a downer. Spurs 82 QF- half time we were dreaming of Wembley- when they equalised early second half remember saying to a mate “ d’you think they’ll give us all the Park Lane if it goes to a replay”

Then they tore us to pieces ( they were a top team I hate to say.

Next year Derby- we equalised in the second half then they scored with a couple of minutes left. Everyone was gutted coming home.

Sundetland the following year in the Milk Cup- we lost it really up there, but having Clive Walker score rubbed salt into the wound.

We were a pretty happy go lucky support when we were sh*t, but getting knocked out of Cups seemed to piss everyone off, mostly because it deprived you of a good day out in the next round, rather than thinking we were gonna win whatever competition

I was at all those games ironically Kevin Wilson scored the winner for Derby. If you look at the two line ups against Spurs it's a miracle we ran them so close and another miracle that Alan Mayes scored. I think one of the reasons that the fa cup was so massive for our generation was that Liverpool didn't win it every year so everyone was in with a shout. Sunderland, Ipswich and Southampton winners, Fulham runners up, Palace and Orient semi finalists. In the 80's Wimbledon winners, QPR, Brighton, Watford finalists.

I think it was the hope that we might win something, remember 26 years without a major trophy.

Middlesbrough relegating us in 1988.

Nottingham Forest thrashing us 7-0 in 1991.

2008 Champions League Final was very painful to endure.

2009 Champions League Semi Final against Barcelona was the greatest robbery you will ever see.

Yup. 4-1 in 88. Was working up there in 91 when Sc**thorpe played your nemesis Leeds in some Cup. Was out on a date in Henry Africa’s when it kicked off big time. Quite a rough town back then. It had a high murder rate for a little place

Worst the champions league final against the mancs. The 4-0 94 cup final and any time against the dippers

The odd thing about the 1994 final is I didn't feel devastated about the result even though I was hopeful of an upset at half time.

Manchester United were a very strong side that season, and I was just proud to see us make an FA Cup final.

Who put the c**t in sc**thorpe is the question ,i spent alot of time in my miss spent youth balnking out the S on the sunthorpe Road Signs in my neck of the Woods , • c**thorpe 12 miles .

Yes agree, it never felt like a proper cup final as weather was sh*te, if it had been sunny and hot and we were playing not such a good side and lost 1-0 I would of been gutted, also our support was magnificent that day which eased any pain

The champions League final was awful, but like FA cup final 94, it made those victories  in 97, 2012 even sweeter

The 2008 league cup final. Chelsea 1-2 Spuds. Having to listen to that shower celebrating actually beating us for once was just horrible. It definitely went back to being a Mickey Mouse Cup after that.

There were some bad ones late 70s early 80’s 7-2 Boro (Ossie’s first goal back at Chelsea)      78-79

Forest away 78-79

6-0 at Everton 77-78

6-2 at City 77-78

We had others mentioned like Rotherham and the 7-0 Forest

For me aged 20 at the time would be Boro playoff final 1988

The thing I liked though was just to keep going to the games however we were doing. I dread to think what the early 80’s players would have thought about Matchday threads if they existed back then!!!!!

And nowhere to get a drink anywhere near the ground.  A mate and me went to the Royal Rangers Club near the seafront as there had been fliers up at the home leg inviting all Chelsea fans for a drink on the night of the game. Neither of us gave it a second thought as we signed the guest book with our very Irish surnames, and although neither of us had any sectarian leanings it was a bit uncomfortable for a little while.

Probably the semi final against Utd at Villa Park in 96, a mere two years after we'd been destroyed, but not outplayed, in the 94 final, and still a year away from our first trophy in a generation. I said to my missus when I got home that I didn't think I was ever going to see us win anything in my lifetime, couldn't be happier to have got that one wrong.

Yes that Boro playoff was bad, remember walking out ground thinking how the f**k did our great side of 83/84 get relegated only four years later, mind you the following season back in div 2 and the following couple of seasons back in Div 1 were great again, I was only 19 at the Boro playoff and with no social media around unless you bumped into anyone you got let off lightly with piss taking, until Monday morning back at work.

This Wasn't One Of The Worst Defeats, But For Me It Was My First Chelsea Game, Chelsea Vs Villa 2003, Where We Lost 2-1, Performance Was Poor, At Least A Few Years Later We Got That 8-0 Scoreline On Them, But Never Took Away The Poor Game In 2003
