Didn’t we need to hit that £700m-£750m revenue mark because of the new Squad Cost Ratio (SRC) regulations, which means we are only allowed to spend 85% of our total revenue on wages, amortisation, transfers and agent fees?

Our 2024/25 wages + amortisation figure was £572m, second in the league to City at £578m. That is why I think anyone expecting any big signing this season (comes with big wages) will be in for a disappointment. That is why I find talks of Wharton & Morgan Rogers hilarious.

You are right though, they desperately need CL footy this season (personally can’t see it), need to sell quite a few duds (market limited to PL?) and probably why they have gone cap in hand to HP for a FOS sponsorship.

I think cl is a reasonable target especially with no Europe.

Imagine watching that game and this being your takeaway... 🤣

He's right. Any comment on his glorious miss that would have put Argentina in front?

Always amusing when he proves me 100% right as the number one Enzo fan boy 😅

Sure. However his complete absence for 90+1 minutes saw Egypt largely dominate Argentina's midfield, leading to his team being 2-0 down for 79 minutes. It's the same story at club level, week in, week out.

Did everyone miss the pass that created the penalty that Messi fluffed?

Enzo being world class. Such a proven talent. And yet on here the usual . . .drivel.

Out of interest, Can you give me his ten best performances wearing the blue of Chelsea in order please? Then when youve done that, can you find out how many MOM awards he has won while playing for us...

My hope is he has a good world cup and some club is mugged off by us paying anything near to what we paid so we dont have to keep having this debate.

Let me answer these questions. He has won the Barclays Premier League Man of Match 3 times since joining us in January 2023. Statistically, he has been recognised as the best player on the pitch by the league 3 times in 3 1/2 years. Once every 14 months. That is discounting Chelsea supporters who have voted for him to be man of the match on 8 occasions over 150 games for us.

Not good enough imho

He clearly is rated higher in the football world than some on here are prepared to accept.

Not just in the case of Enzo but several players that are valued highly are dismissed .

Which players are you referring to here ?

Not sure that an award which I believe is voted for by the fans who are participants of the PL fantasy league is anything other than a subjective measure of a players footballing ability.

I attend a significant number of games and I have never had a say or should I say voted for a man of the match. In the day the responsibility for that award lay with the main match sponsor .

Awards for players of a game or supporters awards are often based on favourite players also the award is often given to attacking players as opposed to midfielders and defenders.

Cool, so given you regularly watch Enzo, how many games would you give him man of the match awards to... How many of those games have you gone, he was brilliant?

  1. We have all gone over this 1,000 times or more now. The folks on this message board do not like Enzo.

  2. You're all wrong - Enzo is a great player.

  3. The only Chelsea player left in the World Cup (first team player).

(quiet world cup day - quiet transfer day - lest praise Enzo) 😁

I think you are looking at this the wrong way. Rarely do I see him as a 9or10 out of 10 type player but I see a player that is a consistent say7 or 8 out of 10. I think Joao Pedro was our player of the season and he did indeed have a good to very good first season but I would have to see in many games he simply wasn’t close to an 8 out of 10 . For instance Newcastle away he was poor for most of the game save one moment of class and that immediately shaped his marking for the game.

You do know that there are at least 21 other players on the pitch who can be voted for as player of the match don’t you ? For the majority of games If I had name a player I would put him as a candidate in say the top 3or4 but like many my decision would be based on a moment of brilliance or maybe from a player who scores multiple goals in a game. His , Enzo, game isn’t just about goals scored although season on season his numbers have been improving in that area.

You talk about players being brilliant. So a question to you. Is Palmer consistently brilliant ? Is Elliott Anderson even close to being brilliant or what about Tonali ? Decent players yes and now both with a£100 m price tag but look at the stats neither gets close to the goal involvements from midfield that Enzo does .

See here’s the thing Enzo disappoints me I think he is a far better player , potentially, than we have witnessed. Would I say he is potentially worth £100+ million ? In today’s market yes. Would I want us to pay that sum for a player of similar age and abilities? No but alas that is today’s market

Enzo is not going anywhere because despite being this world class midfielder there are no interested buyers.

We will have the PR spin about working with Alonso etc but will ultimately wind up with an unhappy player. If we then attempt to shoe horn him in it becomes another nightmare.

I certainly don’t hate Enzo, I think he is a different profile to our other midfielders and could have a place in the squad but I think it would have been best if he went to Madrid and we spent the money on players better suited to Alonso’s system and the Premier League.

Like Santos??

Im not looking at it the wrong way, Im calling out a player who is bang average and im not defending that.

im also not making excuses for him either. You state that you are disappointed in him because he can be far better; yep, we all see it and why we want shot of him, he doesnt turn up for us.

I asked you to list his best performances. You cant.

He consistently doesnt lead this side on the field and hence why others get the MOM awards.

Put the fee to one side, Palmer on his day is a game changer, has consistently done it and had a poor season last year, terrible by his own standards, but equalled Fernandez goal output.

Enzo's goals, its great he gets them, well done, but its what he doesnt do on the pitch that makes him a liability, Midfielder roles need to cover the ground, track back, make tackles, jocky and cover other players, organise and be fit enough to go 90 minutes... This is a modern midfielder... something Anderson does incredibly well.

There is an argument on here that Eliot Anderson isnt a top player. He is miles and a pair of heads and shoulders over anything we have in our squad. His stats put him number one in most areas last season.

Both he and Tonali are players who would get into our squad.

First off you didn’t ask me to name his best performances that was celery king you asked. If you read my previous posts I talked about consistency (7or8 out of 10) by virtue of that I wouldn’t class him as the type of player whose performances vary too much from game to game so picking out his best 10 games I would cstruggle to do.

You rate Anderson as they say football is all about opinions . Of course Tonali and Anderson would get into our squad not sure anyone has said otherwise. Tonali I personally don’t rate that highly .

As for Palmer matching goals well in the PL you are right 10 each Palmer 5 penalties Fernandez 2. In all game Fernandez 15 of which 5 were penalties Palmer 11 of which 5 were penalties. When it came to assists Fernandez 7 Palmer 3. Now of course to gain context you need to look at games played etc but them is the numbers.
