August 4, 20241 yr I can only see Noni as a super sub tbh. And hopefully that will give him time to work on his finishing before he turns into a sterling and grow up a bit too. Palmer has that right side locked down imho. Edited August 4, 20241 yr by Simplymo
August 4, 20241 yr Author I wonder if there is anything in him being linked to Newcastle, and if that move happens based on whether Liverpool snap up Gordon or not.

Can't always blame Poch for everything. I honestly don't recall ever seeing Madueke playing on the left for any team and with his skillset it makes little sense having him there anyway. I had a look on transfermarkt and turns out he's played there 4 times his entire career, funnily enough he actually did play on the left for Poch but only for 6 mins as a sub.

In this particular case it's not really relevant to bring up Poch or any manager really, it's simply a case of a player being unable to play any other position so he will always be behind Palmer/a bench player.
August 6, 20241 yr I think Noni is an exciting player. Can be frustrating and there's his desire to snatch the ball for a penalty... but i really enjoy the way he dances past people, just needs to add consistency to his final execution pass or shot. Sort of player who can change a game in the latter stages is how I view him right now. Clearly, Maresca has to ask the owners if he's in their plans.

How do you know he's unable to play any other position if you've just said he's only played there 4 times? 2 goals and 1 assist from 195 minutes at LW would suggest its at least worth a chance when the other options are Sterling and Mudryk (pmsl). Willian had only played RW 7 times before we signed him and he did a pretty good job for us there as much as i hate to admit it. Good foil to Hazard on the left, perhaps Madueke could end up being our Willian to Palmer. Or lets just never try anything new...

Playing on the left he would be unable to do what he is actually good at which is cutting inside and taking shots. He has no end product so you can't have him running down the left whipping in crosses. Willian's skillset allows him to play anywhere in the front 3, it wasn't really a gamble to move him to the right. I'm not saying we shouldn't try it at all, I'm just saying it's very unlikely to actually work until he's improves his passing.

Noni doesn't have a right foot, limiting him on the left. Palmer doesn't have a right foot either but he makes up for it in many other excellent ways.

Consider that perhaps his weaknesses in crossing is the fact he's on the right trying to whip then in on his very weak foot. Willian wasn't exactly Beckham when it came to crosses, was always better on the left at Shakhtar cutting in and shooting.

The other option is to cut in and cross with your left which Palmer does often, when madueke does it it's not any more accurate than his right.

So are we comparing him with our best player now or are we still discussing whether he can play on the opposite side? Nice assist from the cross from Madueke at the weekend btw

Watch him run 360º to stay on his left foot.

Struggle to think of a similar one from Palmer who you state is so efficient at it. Just seems that you don't particularly rate Madueke (which is fine) so are trying to stick with the notion he'll only ever be a bench player than realistically him being our second best winger currently.
August 8, 20241 yr I'd keep Noni around because he's a good player for where we are as a club right now. If you play him to his strengths then he can do damage and the club had the opportunity to get better in Olise and sign a game changer but opted not to pay the wages. Next year is an issue for him because they have 2 new shiny toys coming in and there will be expectations and hype for them to come in and hit the ground running. I just can't see a future for Noni if they have high hopes for Estevao and Kendry but they had high hopes for Mudryk and look how that turned out. I see him having a similar season to last season just due to Nkunku coming back from injury which will keep Cole on the right. Nkunku has more upside than Noni and has the potential to match Cole in his performances so I just can't see Noni nailing a place. Edited August 8, 20241 yr by Sheva
August 9, 20241 yr Apparently a PL club has made a bid for him and are currently negotiating. Nothing concrete confirming it.

Not his biggest fan but I wouldn't sell him just yet. Mostly cause I don't believe anyone will pay us more than the £30m we paid for him but he also deserves another season to prove himself.
