Another Winger! - Noni Madueke

Featured Replies

All players can use both feet, the trouble is they doubt their ability with their weaker foot. This usually becomes apparent most when shooting, missing chances because they wouldn't risk using the weaker foot. some are so paranoid about it they even only pass or dribble with the stronger foot. Chillwell is a classic example, stop him running down the line, and you know the ball is going backwards.

Fully deserved

Imagine if they had shipped him out for whatever silly amount Newcastle were offering. Knowing our lot they are probably rubbing their hands knowing they can now demand £70m next summer.

Keep forgetting to post this. Wanted to do it after wolves game then serviettes.

I think Maresca will do wonders for Noni. He's adding that discipline he needs.

In both of those games his head didn't go down, he tracked back and actually put the effort in. I've posted before in this thread that sometimes he acts like a spoilt kid but I've seen improvements in the last 2 games. Even at serviette, on the back foot he put the work in.

It does look like he is putting in the effort to take the chance to impress the new boss....

Good for him for knuckling down and making positive progression

Carsley had him doing exactly that for the U20s. Bailed out the RB any number of times. It's not a new concept to him.

Hopefully he can have some consistency this season, on Sunday he was brilliant but on Thursday I didn't notice him on the pitch for the vast majority of it.

Yeah, agreed, going forward he didn't show the magic he did at wolves but he did track back and help out which I noticed. I've been harsh with Noni in past posts about his lack of trying and effort, head down, etc...thought he should get credit where due. Still only 2 games, let's hope he keeps it up.

I like Carsley, from what I read he ain't a pushover either. Not like cuddly poch and friendly uncle Southgate. I think it's what Noni needs tbh, a firm hand, a stern voice, etc.

... smacked bottom and sent to bed without any tea. I'm with you.

Lol, exactly.

Let's be honest, even though they are in their early 20s and for some of us that's not a kid anymore, these guys are!

Because of their environment, the schooling (Cobham is one of the best but not exactly oriented towards academic excellence except in football), the way their whole lives revolve around football they will miss out on a lot of other stuff or maybe just not addressed properly like discipline and life lessons.

Early 20s in football is like teenagers imo. 14/15 Yr olds that sometimes act mature enough to pass as 20yr olds.

He did it quite often last season, defended beyond his full back several times.

Agree with you dkw. I have made the same point before.Madueke has always been pretty diligent at chasing back and covering but not the greatest at tackling. It's a complete myth that Maresca has suddenly got him doing this.

That's good then because I noticed it in preseason a lot and I think during the man city game (can't recall tbh, but I've posted it in a few match threads) maybe he needed time to get going and preseason was all about fitness anyway.

Surprised no comments on Noni's performance. Aside from the build up to the goal, I thought he was pretty awful.

Biggest problem was him trying to do it all on his own. Multiple chances to set up others. Perhaps a case of his goals going to his head.

Still doesn't know when to be selfish and when to pass.

Him, felix, Jackson and I think Neto did the same thing too. But he had multiple chances to pass for tap ins and didn't.

He's still young and yeah I can imagine the wolves game going to his head a bit too.

I do expect all of them to make mistakes I just hope he learns from them and improves as the season goes on.

Brilliant against Wolves, back to his old self yesterday.

I know he is still young but during the second when the game was tied he was trying to be cute and do roulettes around 3 Palace players. Like, come on…

His miss in the first half was arguably the worse of the lot. 10 feet in front of goal and manages it to hit it off target. Every goal of his hattrick the other weekend was significantly more difficult to pull off.

I thought everyone was poor that 2nd half which, yet again, is down to the complacent mentality these players have programmed into their brains. Madueke in particular I thought ruined almost every attacking chance. Nkunku too.

Didn’t even realise England were playing tonight. What a waste of time this early into the season, would’ve been happier without any Chels player taking part

Well, 10 minutes into his full international debut and he has already got an assist. Teed up Kane for a straightforward finish.

He should of had 3 more goals or assists if he knew when to pass or when to shoot.

When he needs to shoot he passes, when he needs to pass he shoots. He's frustrating at times because he's been good at everything else.

I would take that over Sterling though, who just generally frustrates and makes the wrong decision 99% of the time.

Hope he carries on with that at The Gooners................!
