Malo Gusto to Chelsea

He cannot outrun the defender, you can see gusto slow down because the ball is underhit and so he need to slow down to control the ball whereas the defender can just run full sprint

The open space is still there, regardless of the ball slowing down. 9 times out of 10, wingers are not conceding the attacking opportunity that Gusto had right there.

You absolutely can outrun the defender.

If you are saying Gusto in particular can’t then maybe but he can still run the ball into an angle that favours him to draw a foul or win a throw in/corner.

Just watch the sequence, Gusto has to slow down because the ball is slow whereas the defender can go full sprint.

Your 2nd point is very different.

He is fb not a winger

I have watched it. I have seen many players in that situation do what I said. I’m not going to say you will always beat the defender there but theres still a chance and worse case scenario you get a foul/set piece.

Theres no excuse for not attempting it.

It’s not really a position thing. I played fullback and still attempted many of these knowing full well I would get clattered but at least get a foul and move my team up the pitch.

My guess is it was an instruction from Maresca to keep things tight and not commit too many forward, I think under normal circumstances Gusto is bombing up that pitch.

Just read he hasn’t scored in 118 top flight appearances. Quite impressive for someone who plays so advanced.

He has zero career goals! Which makes it crazier like you said when the manager inverts him as a 10.

Hes an attack minded fullback so the point still stands.

For an attach minded full back, he sure as hell looks to pass the ball backwards at every opportunity.

Hasn't got a goal in him (which doesn't bother me) but his crossing isn't great either.

How was Kyle Walker in his earlier years? Feel like Gusto could be somewhat similar.

Poch catfished us into believing Gusto was a capable deputy for RJ, the past 2 seasons he’s been easily one of our worst performing players.

I still maintain he was the perfect Trent replacement for that system.

Whose; Liverpool? Never imagined we would one day have Trent & Gusto in the same sentence.

No end of crosses, and good ones, for France v Azerbaijan the other night.

Yup. Obviously the sudden availability of Frimpong put a spanner in the works, once again credit to the dippers for moving quickly.

But I thought it was nailed on he was going there to replace Trent. Defensive upgrade whilst maintaining that attack minded RB role.

Especially considering Gusto rivals Bosingwa in worst crosser ever from a fullback at this club.

Came here to post he is a carbon copy of Bosingwa - can't cross, can't shoot, rarely dribbles and his only attacking skill is running on to a ball and cutting it back, but is deployed by the manager as a de facto playmaker

Maybe he's got himself some better boots.

I want to say I am surprised but a lot of our fans think neto is one of the best winger in the league

He is out here doing cardio every game. I would take Minteh over him every day.

The hard part with player like neto, I like this kind of player and I try to defend them because they play important for the success for a team.

But this days I don't have to, many fans consider many of this kind players as elite.

I agree people are way too harsh on him but I think he is similar to Willian in that people see and appreciate his hard graft more than they see his attacking ability, which is odd given his skillset.

I think he (like Willian) is sacrificing himself for the system.

I like Neto. He’s important for the way we play but this could be his last season at the Bridge. We’d easily get £75 million for him and he might want to maximise his earnings on what might be the biggest contract of his career.

75?

I thought we were crazy to pay 60 for Neto

I like when fans appreciate the other side of the ball but I just find this fascination of neto strange after I saw many criticize the like of Conor, mount, willian.
