BBC comments section just now....

Rob: Matty at 20:17 is right, there is a certain amount of snobbery from England towards this tournament but this isn't new. Fans are dismissive towards the Conference League and the League Cup. Every other continent looks forward to the Club World Cup (whatever the format) but for some reason we think it is beneath us.

Yes I agree. I enjoy seeing teams I never would watch or see in this type of tournament. No matter the level.

Scratch that last one. The level should be 5 stories above Auckland level 😅.

Watching mostly Premier League it gets boring. Always the same old story with us having difficulties on breaking down the parked bus and the football being about pace and athletism. There are great teams around the world such as these Brazilian and Argentinian sides.

Incidentally, I think that, taking the big European clubs aside, the biggest difference between the football played in South America and in the PL is the physical game, which should be less of a factor in the 100f weather they have in the US atm. It's not the case with Palmeiras and Flamengo, but Brazilian sides tend to employ players well past their physical primes -- not to mention some who never even had a physical prime.

BTW, I was surprised by how poor Omorodion (Porto) is on the ball. Chelsea dodged a bullet big time there!

Got a soft spot for Boca. La Bombonera is the best atmosphere I’ve ever experienced. Mind you most other teams in Argentina have brilliant atmospheres.

Once the knockout phase starts I reckon there are going to be some brilliant games.

Apart from ours obviously. 😀

The Boca game tonight was a brilliant watch, so much going on, hectic, chaotic, play acting, great individual skills, ferocious tackles, . Basically the complete opposite to the way we play. 😂 Don't fancy playing Boca or Benfica tbh.

We could see record scores for both Boca and Benfica against Auckland. That group might come down to goal difference if making a big assumption that Bayern win all their group games.

15-0 could be on the cards as Bayern were in first gear and they got 10.

Flamengo look a decent side. They have a good press.

It should be a much better game to watch against them because they’ll force us to play quickly.

Looking forward to it.

Just realised we'll be up against Jorginho when we play them !

For one night only perhaps ... the return of Gol15 ? LOL

Yet another 2021 CL winner, not surprised if we suddenly go up against Azpi

It reminded me of Copa America last summer, which was just absolutely nuts and a blast to watch.

Where is Gol? Did he get banned or choose to leave?

Big result in PSG losing last night.

Means we could "do an england" and have a relatively straight forward path to the semis if we win tonight.

Heaven forbid I can actually see a way that we might win the whole thing LOL.

Give Maresca his 10 year contract extension NOW ! 😇

Can you imagine how unbearable we will be if we win it

Our PR department will go into absolute overdrive. The demands for a shirt sponsor will rise to £100m a season. We will play 25/26 without a shirt sponsor 😜

We’ll sponsor ourselves - just that good. Will be a record deal also.
