Impatience at slow play and groaning at misplaced passes is not overt criticism of the players or a lack of support. Its just genuine frustration and is evident in football grounds at every game and has been forever. Booing players, chanting at management or players is always going to be counter productive but i didn't see/hear that. I would also add that you cannot put on a form of entertainment and invite punters to purchase tickers for it without expecting them to engage and express emotion during the game. The game may be a civilised form of entertainment but there remains a gladiatorial element and the fans in the ground will feel the collective urge for the opposition to be attacked and comprehensively beaten.
August 19, 20241 yr Owners are at fault, I don't rate Maresca in the slightest, but he's also been given a job he needs time in that we just can't afford to give him. We should've built on from Pochettino's style into next season, it was clicking towards the end and just needed more time with a few upgrades. Instead, we go back to this possession-obsessed football and have to re-start all over again. I feel as if we the fans are more concerned about our financial situation than the owners are, why are they taking ridiculous risks like this?

The biggest difference was the final third. We even forced City to a lot of errors but our attack pitifully took advantage of it. There were some fundamental errors with our attack (Nkunku LW/Enzo CAM) but a few players still aren't up to speed. Jackson just came back from a serious injury, Palmer and Neto also had zero preseason tour minutes with the team to get themselves acquainted in the system. One thing we do need is a strong, clinical focal point. Next round of fixtures should give us a better idea of where we truly stand. At the end of the day we all want the same thing and that's to win, but groaning/booing a team first game of the season under a manager that's trying to change the entire system is just daft imo. You can see in the video below it irritated Enzo.
August 19, 20241 yr It’s crazy how the entire media was just waiting for this result to say I told you so.. you would have thought we lost 4-0 to ipswitch.. FFS Utd struggled to get past championship folder .. Arsenal did good and so did Liverpool against teams one would expect to finish in the bottom half.. I mean as Chelsea fans we need to be vary of this and keep a balanced view.. clearly all the years of winning finally have seen the salty ones come out.. people like Danny (who) Murphy and others .. KTBFFH!!

August 19, 20241 yr He also made a massive misstep appointing Enzo as VC that’s going to blow up in this face.

We are sh*t. We have been for some time. We are beyond the point of passion saving us. We showed passion last season, we finished 6th. People still moaned and complained. Our new manager, wether you agree with his hiring or not, has a system and way of playing that involves being patient. Its pretty embarrasing to boo and moan and groan at us passing the ball between defenders in the first game of the season when we are losing by 1 goal to the best team in the world. Even Gary Neville who takes every possible chance to sh*t on the club and the owners said he was impressed that we kept our composure and didn't get baited into playing with emotion, which is exactly what city want when they take the lead. I've said it a million times and ill keep saying it. Moan at the owners, protest, sing about Roman and 'the good old days' all you want, thats fine. But theres zero point booing the team and manager at the start of a new season, its pathetic. No one was booing the players or the manager, moaning amongst ourselves, yes, deservedly even if you don't think so, because we had many chances of moving the ball faster stopped at the defensive line. Again, no one was booing the players and certainly not the majority of Stamford Bridge. I don't know where this comes from but it is not true.
August 19, 20241 yr Author Atmosphere seems dead. 0-1 down and instead of galvanizing the squad to push harder we are singing Conor Gallagher chants when he doesn't even play for us?

Seems the general feeling amongst fans is one of disgust for how Conor, and Trev, has been treated. Singing Conors name is a sign of that. Should sing for Trev too and sing anti Clearlake songs, along with Roman's name. Clearlake see the fans as customers right? Guess they don't believe in the customer is always right.

If the general and immediate reaction is to complain about a player who doesn't even play for us anymore vs supporting what is a very talented football team, then we as a fanbase truly deserve everything we get. 🤷♂️

Servette (H) Wolves (A) Servette (A) Palace (H) Bournemouth (A) West Ham (A) Brighton (H) Forest (H) Tbh I was surprised Jackson played with no preseason and just come back from an injury. He needs time and will come good. Still a bit raw but I think he's going to get much better once maresca gets on his case. A lot of ppl criticised Jackson in the match thread but no one said anything about how he held up the ball or linked play on so many occasions but just highlight the one chance he had (and was offside) or the shot at the gk. Ffs, tons of strikers miss chances...he will come good, he needs game time like the rest have had. And you can tell when he ran into one of his own players he hasn't had time yet with the rest of the squad. Apologies if I missed any...I managed to see some really bad copy of the match. Missed it live. The Nkunku and Enzo positions confused me though...thats why I think he was trying something different against man city but it failed. Enzo really needs to stay back and ping balls from a safe distance, only moving forward for rebounds and link ups. Nkunku needs to be in the middle behind Jackson or guiu.

This is being blown up out of all proportion,
August 19, 20241 yr Oh and squad numbers...no matter how experienced you are it's practically impossible to run a squad of 43 players (I think that's the current number, don't know anymore). Now...I'm not saying anything below is true but I was thinking: He said a squad of 30 in the post match interview I believe...did he do a booboo? Did he come out with the actual final number (guessing 5 will be youngsters)? So how about the 13 others still in the squad, do they know who they are? Imagine training with 43 and the players know 13 of them won't make it!? Imagine if those players know (or dont) it's them? Dear lord what a fkn sh*t show...I don't agree with the booing but maybe some proper chants are needed for the SDs?

Does not reflect well on Maresca that Cucurella, Palmer and Jackson were all forced in while a smart manager like Pep knows players who had such little break and no pre season, like stones and walker, need to be eased in slowly and gently. Is why Cucu had to come off. Pep played Lewis, when am sure he would have much rather had walker, but did what was best for the player long term and their season long term. Maresca was making stupid risky calls.
