Palmer doesnt remotely deserve to be in this squad. But I would agree one of them would have made sense to take instead of Henderson and Foden would have been the better option.

Deserve? Deserve is kinda meaningless in a tournament. He is a better player than players in the squad. Simple as that.

Having said that I generally agree he was inconsistent even when he was in form

Having said that, last couple of games of the season his form picked up and he does offer a little something different off the bench. I would have gambled and picked him for the squad

For tournaments you get together your best players in a squad with options. Other countries seen to understand this - England get hung up on "deserve" to be there.

Cole Palmer plays like he is playing in the street and he is having fun. That is what you need in a tournament. That is the 'extra' bit of special.

It’s all a little robotic going forward with England. Defense doesn’t inspire confidence, and Pickford annoys me no matter what shirt he wears. But they won the group and won’t have so many low blocks in games ahead.

Just need that some special / different, and don’t quite see it in this group. But anything can happen in tournament football
