Posted October 19, 200816 yr Has anyone had a chance to get a look at Fabio Borini yet? He seems to be scoring goals for fun at the moment. Obviously too young to be in the frame for the first team yet but he seems to be yet another of a very promising bunch coming through the ranks.
October 21, 200816 yr I reckon you're right mate. Geezer's invariably right. You would be well-advised to heed his advice. He knows his onions.
October 21, 200816 yr I know that Paul Clement and Brendan Rodgers have spoken about how pleased they are with his development, not just within the youth team but also when he has stepped up to play for the reserved. Would need people with Chelsea TC to offer a little input if they have actually seen much of him play. There is some video clips out on the net taken from Chelsea TV of him playing for the U18s but the footage quality is only so so.
October 22, 200816 yr Is this the young fella we have who is italian and is getting into trouble back in Italy for not playing for their youth team? I remember seeing a title of "Chelsea Starlet in trouble" Scott
October 22, 200816 yr I saw the reserve game against Villa where he featured, but Villa fielded a physically strong, slightly older line up and he got muscled out of it a bit. He did show flashes in and around the box and had one good chance which he fluffed àla Kalou.
October 22, 200816 yr Is this the young fella we have who is italian and is getting into trouble back in Italy for not playing for their youth team? I remember seeing a title of "Chelsea Starlet in trouble"Scott different one scott. borinis been at the club a couple of years and is looking pretty good. saw him in a couple of ressie games and highlights of the acadamy and he looks like a natural goalscorer. not that big but looks quick and aggresive, and looks to shoot at every opportunity. hes broke into the ressies this season and has scored goals already. reminds me a lot of michael owen in the way he gets shots of early, which cant be a bad thing.
October 22, 200816 yr I have seen him play for the reserves 3 times now. He was particularly impressive against Milan but did struggle more against Villa. He looks like a natural finisher though. The other main reserve striker is Morton Neilson and Borini looks a lot more promising.
October 22, 200816 yr Borini reminds me of a Francis Jeffers fox-in-the-box type of player who, should he develop at a fast rate in the Reserves, could make the grade with us. He certainly seems to have a knack for being in the right place at the right time, unlike a fair few of the regular first team players recently, who always seem to arrive late on crosses. Three or four seasons down the line, this type of player would be an ideal foil for a Kalou or Franco di Santo and dkw’s comparison with Michael Owen is a good one.
October 24, 200816 yr The way Scolari has us playing now with the full backs given freedom to bomb forward (although their delivery into the box will have to be a lot better than it was against Roma!) and the link play between the three central midfielders being far swifter than it has been for seasons we, more than ever, need a centre forward who is 'in the right place at the right time' Anelka is as suited to us as Heurelho Gomes is to top flight football and despite what has been a pretty top drawer start to the season for us I still have a concern that relying on Anelka could prove very costly for us.

I like nielson, I don't think he'll make it with us because his finishing is just way too inconsistent, but he's good with his back to goal and holding the ball up, if borini can add some of the aspects of play nielson has he should be a good player.
September 20, 200915 yr Made his debut today, looks very keen, lets hope Carlo brings him on more often, I can see him having a soft spot for the young Italian, it should do Borinis' confidence a world of good being involved today.
September 20, 200915 yr Bloody hell, he's younger than I am. It's all downhill from here... I'm going to wake up tomorrow and be 36.
September 21, 200915 yr I think in the next few games we will see more of him and Sturridge. Especially if Drogba is out for a while with thie calf injury. I'd expect to see Sturridge and Borini feature somewhat against QPR
September 21, 200915 yr I remember when Ancelotti signed on for us and some were scared that we would turn into Milan - very, very old. Nice then to see that Ancelotti not only cares about the youngsters - seeing as he's been to every (I think) game the youth team has played so far - but also wont mind giving them a chance. Admittedly we've had some injuries lately so that might have helped, but it's still nice. Too bad Kakuta is banned, otherwise he might actually have a shot at atleast getting on the bench.
September 21, 200915 yr The only downside was that Carlo brought him on at injury time. I think he should show more faith in youngsters than that especially as we were winning at 3-0 and were quite comfortable.
September 21, 200915 yr strange how he opted for borini over sturridge for the bench though given that studge scored a hat trick midweek. a bit of italian favouritism perhaps? or did sturridge pick up an injury still, he looked enthusiastic enough and was in a great position for kalou to pull it across goal to but he (rather selfishly) opted for the shot from a tight angle Edited September 21, 200915 yr by sexelk

September 21, 200915 yr I think he knows enough about Sturrige and just wanted Borini to have a small taste bfore the main event. Edited September 21, 200915 yr by midlandblue
September 21, 200915 yr J think that Borini is slower than Sturidge, but he could be better than him. We'll have nice fowards next years.
