Oblivion Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 IT'S THE WEEKEND! IT'S WIGAN AT HOME! IT'S A REJUVENATED CHELSEA! IT'S A FREE 3 POINTS! It is.....isn't it? 2 solid 1-0 wins against teams, who, not 3 weeks ago, we'd have fumbled, stumbled and fallen with mud all over our face. Our tactics have been stable, conservative even, but now is the time to go the distance and push for a big win. SB needs to be returned to its rightful place as a fortress of immense strength With that in mind, I'd like to see: .........................Cech Bos............Alex.......JT...........Ash Cole .....................Ballack ..............................Lamps Kalou......................................Malouda ................Anelka ................................Drogba With the following: Hilario Mancienne Stoch Di Santo Quaresma Ivanovic Belleti What we will see: Probably the same squad we've been seeing the last 2 games. Thoughts?
PloKoon13 Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 OK... we're at home against a Wigan side who have lost their big frontman in Emile Heskey and have thus stumbled a little lately. I don't think we need a DM. This can give us a chance to give Quaresma a run out as well. ---------------Cech Bosingwa--Mancienne----Terry---Cole ----------------------------------------- ---Kalou/Stoch--------------Quaresma -------------Lampard------------------- ----------Drogba----Anelka------------ Then Belletti in a roaming role... playing wherever he sees fit. :D

Ruh Buh Juh Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 I'm stunned that anyone wants to see Malouda again, even his mum and dad! hahahaha, I chuckled :D And I agree. I think we should now be experimenting with 2 up front, because last night, Anelka just looked lost out on the wing, as he always does. Play a sort of 4-2-2-2. ......................Cech ..Bos......Alex.................Terry.....A.Cole .........Ballack.............Lampard ..Kalou....................................Stoch .............Drogba....Anelka Optimistic? Yes. Unlikely? Yes. Bad line up? Not at all. :P

Virosh Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 I think everyone would. But I don't think we will see it. Hiddink seems to prefer 4-3-3. I do hope we can get to see Quaresma, though.
Oblivion Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 I'm stunned that anyone wants to see Malouda again, even his mum and dad! Weeeellllll.....me neither, but I figured having a proper left-sided winger with decent crossing would help with the whole 442 plan......
clubhappy Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 I'd like to see Quaresma start , Drogba would live off his crosses and his ability to go past defenders is something we've been missing . At least give him the opportunity . After the way we've dramatically turned things around , [ok not getting too carried away but you can see the confidence returning through the side again ] im confident we can grab three points and put a bit of pressure on Man Yooo and the filth.
loz Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Personally I would rather see Stoch start ahead of Quaresma. Stoch has a long term future with us whereas Quaresma will most probably go back to Italy in the summer.

Yes. Unlikely? Yes. Bad line up? Not at all. :P I think we even might see something like this as I think Hiddink is much more adventurous than LFS. I think Guus is going to put the same team as the last two games but he might do some tweaking because we are facing a lower opponent. Maybe Mikel is pushed up little bit or even changed to Stoch, who knows. It is a good opportunity for Guus to get the fans behind him at the bridge by winning wigan with a large margin..
Orangutan Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Weeeellllll.....me neither, but I figured having a proper left-sided winger with decent crossing would help with the whole 442 plan...... B) If only we actually had that player. If this were FIFA 09, I'd say start Ashley on the wing!
ethicalstrategy Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Personally I would rather see Stoch start ahead of Quaresma. Stoch has a long term future with us whereas Quaresma will most probably go back to Italy in the summer. As Stoch is a right winger and Quaresma a left winger we could even go so far as to play them both!
b00gamaster Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Quarezma on the left and Stoch on the right would be ideal with Nico and Drogba in front. Quaresma is not available for CL so we might want to save Kalou for it.
b00gamaster Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Also, Bosingwa is suspended for this game so we will see either Mancienne or Ivanovich in his place..

Score some goals or set up some more assists as a sub and then we'll talk.

In Serie A and the EPL he's proven almost nothing.
Phillip Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 I notice that no live stream sites have been posted yet. Does anyone know of any? For me, I need one compatible with Media Player. Thanks.
Virosh Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 And Quaresma has done what precisely? In Serie A and the EPL he's proven almost nothing. He was considered one of the top wingers-in-the-making back in Porto. Certainly the best player of that team, which is one of the best in Portugal. Stoch has only impressed in one, arguably two games he has played for us, for 10-ish minutes each. He did something in Serie A, he has had some really good games in the beginning there. In the Premier league he played only one (!) game and he was easily our best player that game. Now don't get me wrong, I do love the prospect of Stoch becoming a world-class player with us and I am all for giving the youth chances. Seriously. But you have few arguments in saying Quaresma shouldn't start ahead of Stoch and fewer still saying he is an unproven player.
ozboy Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 It will be interesting to see what Guss does. Last season Chelsea were very strong in H2, this season we have started strongly but finished softly and been inclined to rest on the lead. To an extent maybe that does reflect the first sign of ageing. Its Ballack and Franky that are the most suspect there. Perhaps Deco could be given a game today although I do much prefer Ballack. Ashley Cole will come back in but if bossy is out then Paulo is the most natural replacement. Its hard to change a winning team, I'd be very tempted to go with Mancienne at right back and bring on subs like Deco/Stock/charisma early on in H2.
houstyiscool Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 according to bbc, ballack was the only player to turn up today without wearing a club suit. I wonder if he's dropped? Deco is out injured apparently so I dare say he'll have to play.....
loz Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Chelsea: Cech, Mancienne, Alex, Terry, Ashley Cole, Ballack, Mikel, Lampard, Kalou, Anelka, Drogba. Subs: Hilario, Ivanovic, Di Santo, Malouda, Quaresma, Ferreira, Belletti. Wigan: Kirkland, Melchiot, Bramble, Boyce, Figueroa, Cattermole, Brown, Scharner, Kapo, Zaki, N'Zogbia. Subs: Kingson, Edman, Sibierski, Rodallega, Kupisz, Routledge, Holt.
Chippy Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 I didn't expect Mancienne to start at RB as I thought Hiddink planned to use him as a bit of a versatility type player..using him in defence or midfield if needed. Not a lot of faith in Stoch from Guus so far..and no complaints Good to see Di Santo back on the bench maybe he'll get on for one of the main pair late on.
sexelk Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 (edited) any decent streams? why can't we just switch away from that god awful formation? it really makes me want to cry. we have arguably the best back 5 in the world so how on earth do they need protected with a f*ckin DM edit: just seen the stream thread Edited February 28, 2009 by sexelk
TheWestwayWonder Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 (edited) Not really thrilled with the formation either, but very excited about Mancienne, and I hope he rewards Guus's faith. Lord knows he deserves it. Hope to see Q at some point too! Maybe we can throw Ivan if its a close one edit: really disappointed to see Stoch didnt make it to the bench. I guess the men in the know know more than I do, but I think he deserves at least a shot CMON YOU BLUES!!!! Edited February 28, 2009 by TheWestwayWonder
loz Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Personally I am disappointed to see Malouda ahead of Stoch on the bench but as much as I rate Ferreira it is a good sign that Mancienne has got the nod over both Paulo and Belletti, shows that Hiddink is prepared to put his faith un youth players and doesn't need to see them in training for 6 months before taking a chance.
