loz Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Keep your eyes on all the prizes lads!! After tonking Liverpool in their own back yard it is back to Premiership business as Bolton come a calling. Bolton have been pretty appalling on the road in the last few months whereas our home form has finally given us reason to be proud again. As always Bolton will be looking to Kevin Davies to provide a goal so we can expect no shortage of high balls and a lesson in the fine art of 'hoofing it up' Hiddink surely has to keep picking our strongest team despite the number of fixtures we have coming up. The title is still there to be played for and a home win is essential.
Mod Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 You are right in the title being there to play for still, but I would rest a few at the weekend with next Tuesday in mind. Drogba looked knackered at the end last night, so would start with Anelka and rest Drogs. That way Drogba will be still pumped up next Tuesday to start, and not have a come-down in between playing Bolton. Also, Anelka is on the same amount of goals as Ronaldo for Prem golden boot (I think) so be good to give him chance to score a few before the seasons out.
g3.7 Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 megson is the most fantastically negative manager the premiership has seen since graham, bolton are easily the worst watch in the league. unfortunately they are not the worst side... on one hand we need carvalho to get some game time, and on the other alex should play against their continued attempts to defy the laws of gravity. ideally we'd give them such a beating that riccy could come on for jt at HT (giving he and alex some game time together before the liverpool game). I really think every player deserves to start again, even malouda, but there are bigger games coming soon. as such I'd be tempted to rest drogba and start with anelka, and bolton's expected lack of ambition should mean a good chance to rest ballack and push deco right off anelka, and play a 4231. would like us to follow on from anfield by really getting at them, and being a couple ahead by ht, then look to bring on carvalho, di santo and stoch.
ozboy Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I'm not giving up on the title but its not an even money bet. We simply have to rest some players every now and then else we will go flat. Top four candidates to come into the team are: 1. Anelka. Deserves a vote of confidence, playing against his old team golden boot etc. 2. Mikel could come in for Ballack, not because he's better, but to give Mikel a rest. 3. Di Santo deserves more game time; 4. Mancienne is another to shine when he was given the opportunity. Drogba is fragile but in my opinion needs the work. Ballack is 34 and must be feeling the pace; In my view we should give Frankie a rest as well. My idea would be to play either Malouda or Deco in his role and put Di Santo up front with Anelka and Kalou. Probably too many changes for one game, but the central midfielders will be sharper for a rest
sergeyMS Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 (edited) I think we should give all our key players a rest, because of an upcoming vital game against Liverpool in CL. We`ve a difficult situation there, nothing is decided yet. And we`ll be there without Terry with the worst referee on the planet (it`s a fact), so we need our best boys in a fresh condition. That`s something Lofty must agree with. Edited April 10, 2009 by sergeyMS
geezer Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Kevin Davies has caused us a number of problems down the years and JT has said more than once this guy is the hardest player he has ever played against because of his sheer strength. Alex may be a man mountain but he seems quite weak if you muscle him. Well the papers today are stating what a powerhouse Ivan is therefore let's play him as one of the centre backs and Manicienne at right back.
evissy Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 -------------Cech Belletti--Alex--Terry--Ivanovic ---Ballack--Lampard--Mikel Quaresma-------------Malouda ------------Anelka Give Ashley, Essien and Drogba a break so they will be up for it again tuesday. The way King Ivan played wednesday I think he can play on the left side.. Stoch, Mancienne and DiSanto on bench.
mad_mac Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 No we don't but I bet we will see one. I also doubt Queresma will play, Hiddink seems to be more focused on playing "actual" chelsea players, and not any loan players or youth squad members. I think we will see the usual names out there, but with some of them sitting on the bench while the others get a run out. I wonder if Ivan will make a move into a Central postition along the back 4 at s ome point. I think it is critical for Percy to get some game time too. ..............................Cech mancienne..........Ivan.......Terry.........Cole ..................Essien..................Lampard Kalou....................................................Malouda ......................Deco .................................Anelka Scott
charierre Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Tuesdays game is far from over ,I hope we prioritise and rest quite a few players tomorrow Cech Mancienne, Carvalho Terry Belletti/Bosingwa Mikel Ballack Deco Stoch Anelka Quaresma
Mr Chelsea Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 not as easy as it looks this one we may have a bit of an hangover after our mid week humiliation of the scousers we will win but it will be one of those frustrating games
Orangutan Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Surely Quaresma must play this one. Give one of the wingers a rest and give Riccy Q a deserved run out in a competition he's eligible for.
icecoolguy22 Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Big game this one, with all the big 4 fatigued from the midweek match and one eye on next week, a few points will be dropped. I can see Liverpool resting Gerrard and Torress, and Man United will rotate their players ahead of the Porto trip. I think Carvalho, Mikel , Quaremsa should get a game.
Maksimov Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I can see Liverpool resting Gerrard Isn't he injured?
just Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I would definately play the back four we are going to play against the mousers. Just to give them some playing time to meld together. Ivanovich..........Carvalho.....Alex..............Cashley I would also make sure Drogba is at home today wrapped up in cotton wool. He is simply irreplaceable. Anything happens to him and we would be f*8ked on all fronts.
