PFA player of year

Featured Replies

If there was ever a player should be nominated for player of the year it should be Frank, I cant believe he has not been short listed.. he is better than ever this season... this is a kick in the teeth for him personally. I cant believe that any professional in the game would not have him top of thier list this year !

He must win the football writers award surely to god !

to be honest, I don't think he had the best start to the season. He has been outstanding of late though and should be in there ahead of Gerrard, Van der Sar, Giggs and Ferdinand

Vidic has been great. Would be close between him and SFL for me

Andy, the most unbelievable thing about the whole process is that votes are cast in January! January when the season end in May. Why?

Does it really take that long to tally things up? I'd love to know how they justify such a ridiculous voting process. To decide who has been the best when there are 4 months left of the season to play, along with the FA Cup and Champion's League latter stages just makes no sense and, in my eyes, renders the award pretty meaningless.

Is it Player Of The Year, or Player Of The Season? :300:

he had an incredible start to the season! was head and shoulders the best player in the league after the first quarter of the league had past. after that, when we started to play badly although he continued to be our best player, allmost everyone else lost form and we fell rapidly out of the title race and consequently the media spotlight.

Hmm, good point BB. Player of the Season would make more sense, but not sure which one it actually is, and what the criteria are when votes are cast.

All that aside, of the nominees who would you go for?

Hate to say it but for me it would be the over-rated Rio Ferdinand and for young player Stephen Ireland - although I'm suprised he still qualifies as young player.

now i know your on a wind up. he was easily our best player at the start of the season/

the fact that votes are not cast for this after the season is over is just riddiculous

That's what I thought. When the going gets tough the tough get going as the lame song goes. We have just entered the important part of the season, crunch time. For example if Lampard scores 10 goals in our last games and we win the double how is he not eligble for that kind of recognition...Seems stupid.

Vidic would get my vote too. I hope Ivan can became an uncompromising defender like him, but I realize that the two are pretty different in style, and that Ivan will probably never play CB for us consistently

exactly, pointless. What if Steven Starfish disappears in the final five games and Liverpool lose the title, and yet he wins the award? How stupid would it look.

didn't even come in the top five among the writers'...they claim that their reward is a more accurate award cos it's voted for later in the season and they actually see more of the teams/games...so they vote for steven, failed to win the league again, gerrard...their love for gerrard is so ott

maybe he got it for being top DJ basher

I think even the most ardent of Liverpool haters would be hard pressed to admit Gerrard hasnt had a top season.

He has carried that team (along with Torres), unlike the Utd lot who have world class players all over the shop.

Dont like the bloke, but hes a top, top player.

Sorry if that offends anyone, grudgingly ive got to call it as i see it (putting club allegencies to one side)

How do you deal with his diving - is it ok because other Prem players do it or has it become an integral part of the game ie players who dont dive should be assessed in the same light?

Its definitely fine to admit it, and I would agree with everything you have said. But I think its a little funny how there was universal outrage that Giggs won the PFA award, to the exclusion of Vidic and Lampard, and the writers, having a chance to redress this injustic, go with the hollywood pick of Gerrard over them both.

I would definitely say that Gerrard has had a great season, but once again, a sentimental favorite trumps over better players. Not that the likes of Lampard are going to be bothered by it.

I dont like the way he is portrayed like he has a halo and seems to be above the law but there isnt a lot i can do to change it so i dont lose any sleep about it (unlike it seems a lot of people do on here when it comes to Gerrard/Liverpool). And, no i dont like his diving, i guess like Liverpool fans dont like Joe Coles diving though.

And who says sentiment is dead .

I was personally pleased for Giggs long overdue as I think he is the best footballer to have ever played in the Premiership .
